The game is regularly priced at $29.99, but interestingly enough, if you have either Shadow of Chernobyl or Clear Sky registered to your Steam account then you can buy Call of Pripyat for $19.99.

About time. It's a bit of a struggle to find the game at retail. Initial impressions are favorable, by the way, so pony up.

I just downloaded it and started playing. I skipped Clear Sky, and never really made it too far in Shadow of Chernobyl. I just recently bought Shadow in a Steam sale and installed that third party graphic upgrade (which, oddly, makes the first game look much better than this game now).

I feel like I've just been tossed into a situation with absolutely no idea what to expect. It certainly seems like quite a different game than the first one with a lot more going on. I stopped playing after I stayed outside during an emission. I thought. Well, I'll give dying a try in this.

One of the things I've noticed about this third installment is that they didn't bother - at all - to "ease in" new players. The game starts you off against snorks and bloodsuckers, and fairly heavy artillery is available from the beginning. Call of Pripyat is for seasoned stalkers and will be unforgiving to others. I guess they felt that those who'd played and liked the others would buy, and no one else.

I'm really, really enjoying this game. Clear Sky improved many things, but those improvements were lost in a sea of megaspawning bad guys and a poorly-implemented emission-cover system. I remember one zone had only one possible place to hide, and it was swarming with bandits. Not fun.

Everything--the story, the quests, and environments, the emissions, the unique anomalies, the hidden artifacts in out-of-the-way places--plays well. I think I'm over half way through, and yet I still feel like I'm scavenging ammuntion despite having plenty of cash. I will head to Pripyat soon enough, I hope they maintain their open-world game play. I stopped playing Clear Sky when it became a corridor shooter.

I've been playing this game for a few days while waiting for New Vegas. It doesn't feel like the first game, though I am enjoying it while dying a lot. I don't seem to have the guns or armor I remember from the first game. They did wear out but I usually had a replacement. My armor is totally shot and I can't find any to replace it. It wasn't much to start with. My guns are degrading fast and there doesn't seem to be much I can buy. Maybe I need to go hunting for artifacts and get some cash. I did finally manage to get two and I got the information from the mercenaries by sneaking in and running away. Also, I found a couple helicopters. I don't remember being so weak or poorly armed. Is there somewhere I can repair my armor or guns? It will probably cost more than buying new ones.

….Later, I found a bodysuit, bought a shotgun and found a place to repair my items, so things are looking better. I've done most of the missions in the first area and got a discount on travel to another area.
