Red Dead Redemption freezes on PS3

I've encountered a problem that apparently MANY (note the bold, italics, and caps) people have had trying to play Red Dead Redemption on the PS3: it freezes during cut scenes and, well, a lot of other times too.  I've googled it a lot and found all sorts of possible causes/solutions, including deleting game files, buying a new disk (yeah Sony/Rockstar would like that one), turning off the screensaver, disabling internet access (a laugh right now, given Sony's inept handling of security on its network), replacing the PS3 (Sony's favorite), and cleaning/moving the PS3 to cooler spots.  However, I've seen no official response whatsoever from Rockstar or Sony about the problem–which, frankly, strikes me as arrogant.

None of the solutions I've tried have fixed this problem, which has left the game unplayable.

I should add that I haven't encountered this problem with any other game, which makes me think that, even though the system acts as though it's overheating, there's really an issue with the game code/disk.

Honestly, I'm surprised by this, as I thought the whole point of a console was to enable developers to avoid the kinds of bugs that have brought so many PC games to crashing infamy.  Well of course the whole point of the PS/Xbox was to make Sony/MSFT a lot of money.  So, really, the other point.

Anyhow, I wanted to post here to see if anyone else had the problem and any solutions/fixes you tried that worked.

That's unsettling to say the least, Ernest. I do have a copy of Red Dead Redemption for the PS3 but I've yet to open it. I didn't read a lot of reviews for the game but it scored such universal praise, and through that I didn't hear anything about cataclysmic freezing issues. When this sort of thing happens you almost always find forums and forums and pages and pages of users opining about the problem, begging for some official response, usually to no avail.

Sometimes it's almost unbelievably frustrating to be a customer of these companies. I felt this way with the multiple system crashes my PS3 experienced due to Fallout: New Vegas
