just joined tap and loving this forum.
spent a good few mins
reading through all the older posts and talk of me being the pied piper
rambo that always runs off and gets in the way so everyone shoots me. i
can say 2 things on that. number 1 i have not change i still run off in
front all the time but i love it. number 2 i play online with gregg
nearly all the time and as those of you who have also played with gregg
will know he is rather fond of friendly fire.
that was
a rather bad session the other night gregg, fink and armand. i dont
think i have ever died so many times in such a short space of time. the
most petrol cans we managed to get in the car was 3 i think.
i
with gregg on not wanting to lower the difficulty but am starting to
wonder if we will ever get to drive in that lovely sports car.
my steam name is lukewin1
Welcome aboard, Luke!
Believe me, however bad that session you describe was, the one we had night before last was worse. I choose to believe that it was not my fault, but in fact it probably was; I too am rather fond of friendly fire. It's my dream to become a good L4D player, but the fact is my enthusiasm for shooting stuff and my eagerness to run, guns blazing, into a horde of zombies will probably prevent that from ever happening.
We can't let this shopping mall defeat us.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
one word to describe the nights play on L4D2 has to be epic.
fink and steerpike you will be happy to find out that after you both left us armand and a new player called madman (and he was) joined us.
some how we managed to get passed the level after 12 attempts i think and with all 4 of us alive.
i was starting to think we would never do it on hard but thank god we dont have to go there again now.
I'm reminded to ask this by your post, Armand: Is "epic" really the word of 2010? I've been using that word in daily speech for at least 7 or 8 years now… and of course see it used on gaming sites all the time, but now all of a sudden dictionary.com nominates it as one of two words competing for "word of the year 2010." As in, REAL people use it! You know, those "real" Americans we've been hearing about?
I think this falls in line with my theory that common vernacular of the people lags behind– and is therefore created by– people who play video games.
When I was on TEN (Total Entertainment Network) in 1996/97 people there were using "lol" and "brb" and such, and that was the very first place I'd seen it used. Nobody was on MSN Messenger or AIM at that point anyway really… I mean, in the mid-nineties I think the internet was still exclusive to college students and gamers for the most part, aside from the odd person falling into neither one of those categories who just kept up with technology or whatever.
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
Damn! That's part of the fun! Expert is the only way to play, for the goall is not to win, but to die gloriously and be challenged to levels of intensity usually only available in competitive multiplayer 😉 I began L4D1 on Advanced, but immediately had to switch to Expert because it just didn't.. Feel right, without it. Okay, so they still bleed red - I still think they're zombies! And zombies aren't meant to drop the moment a .45 clips their ankle! It's all about center of mass and let the kick carry the gun up to the eyes - if the game had real kick. Blast. Woe is me, for I have no zombies.
... I think I'm still in denial, desperate to believe in L4D as a
sandbox survival sim, instead of a gauntlet-running arcade shooter.
Oh gods, someone needs to post the Dead Island Announcement trailer now, please.
My friendly fire is being vastly overstated. I only accidentally shot Gregg, Finkbug, Armand, Madman, and Luke in various games. Compared to the network of fellows with which I play, of whom Gregg, Finkbug, Armand, Madman, and Luke represent a mere 100%, I've shot practically nobody. Do the math, people. Math.
Besides, it's not friendly fire, it's enthusiasm. I suck exuberantly at Left 4 Dead, but I love knocking zombies back and then shooting at them. So if you guys get shot, it's not due to malice, it's due to excitement that I'm having so much fucking fun.

Absolutely. We tend to play at least once a week although over the last couple I've been modding Morrowind so I've been way too lax. Games are rarely planned, it's usually a case of logging onto Steam, seeing others online and asking about. We can almost always get four players, it's getting even numbers above that for versus which is tough. Lobsided teams tend to lead to all sorts of problems with random moments of AI heroism and/or buttfuckery.
We spent roughly four solid evenings with different configurations of players trying to do the finale to Dead Center on Advanced and not for a moment did we consider upping the difficulty. As I've mentioned many times before, I always prefer to be challenged (I usually work from the hardest difficulty down) because that's when you really have to focus on improving rather than crusing through each confrontation; you hone your technique, come up with new strategies and reserve (and hunt down) supplies where possible. Having said all this, judging from our progress (or lackthereof) Advanced was sufficiently difficult enough! Perhaps one day we'll graduate but until then it's going to be (somewhat) organised chaos.
hi Jakkar
feel free to add us as friends on steam and join inn.
its about time we had some good players. i'm getting sick of carrying this lot. sorry i mean carry med packs or defibs to this lot after steerpike has shot the shit out of them lol.
we have not been playing as much as we were to be honest as one of us has let the team down and gone and got a job(not good and you know who you are).
and gregg i live for organised chaos.
my name is lukewin1 on steam.
Last night was a stolid, stalwart stranger saving the collective ass of FFC. "No! Don't heal me, heal him, he's the hero!"
The grenade launcher extremely fun but had to be dropped. Not knowing where the !@#! we were going meant our Terse Mythic Hero was always ahead in the swarm and I was kinda, um, setting him on fire and blowing his limbs off. Pretty sure that put me on the zombie's side.
Had our Hero been Steerpike, fine, but that's an unlikely scenario.
grooowrrrr! [menace menace] rrrrowwwr!
Blast, I envy the bugger. Steerpike was unavailable through the evening, and I couldn't identify the rest of you with certainty via steam. Except Armand's avatar, I think - but you'd stopped playing by then.
I do hope you join you soon. You'll hate me, but it will be fun for a little while. And I very, very rarely get anyone killed! I do however get a bit carried a way and scream like a terrified seven year old girl from Arkansas sometimes. Would that be too far?
