Looky here at this trailer for GW2. http://www.guildwars2.com/en/
(somehow, I've lost the ability to make blue-looking-black words without underlining that are links).
I'd better get off my solo-playing duff & start/play/finish GW's 3 expansions. Not to mention WoW's World of the Lich King. I want to be caught up & ready.
Looks good, Yapette. I have always liked the no subscription fee feature of GW. Looks like this will be coming out sometime next year…hopefully.
Did you ever finish Prophecies? I got stuck after Drokner's Forge due to bad internet dropping me out of the game. I should try again since I switched back to Comcast cable.

Better hurry! I just hopped over to GW NightFall. Gonna pick up some Heroes (super henchies) then return to Phrophecies and kick butt!

You? You! You of the MMO-nots?
[Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]Just came from reading sites'n'sites of GW stuff, searching for the quickest path to Overpowerment.
With minimum amount of reading and strategizing. I have all expansions installed, bought whenever bargain priced.
I'm still playing Oblivion and this weekend fell in love with (heavily patched) Gothic 3. After abandoning Gothic 2 in Chap. 2 - I'll watch the rest on YouTube, otherwise I'll still be killing Orcs on my RL deathbed. But for sure, I'll find you. Not going to miss this scout-online opportunity. …what's it been, 4 years? [Image Can Not Be Found]
Oh, to answer your question - I got stuck in the Prophecies desert with my fire elemental, unable to progress past those T.Rex things. After playing WoW I realize now, my fire-based damage was ineffective against fire/desert foes. I needed to respec/reskill to ice/water. Which I didn't learn.
So my plan was to start new characters, perhaps move them over to Prophecies at lv 20. Or not. Anyway, I am abandoning my lvl 20 male elemental - he isn't "me" anymore. (rollyeyes, for sure)
The last time I logged onto Guild Wars was April 2005, I think. I blame you for posting the trailer of GW2!!!
Anyway, I fought my way onto the island in NightFall last night and am ready to reap some Heroes. I hear they are the best of both worlds...better than henchies...god Aliesha is still hopless I found out...and often better than party members. My monkier is Mann Ray in case you forgot. And I did forget yours. As my time is limited I'm hoping the Heroes route will be better suited to my gameplay which is sparse and not really ammendable to schedules. But yeah, we could get Heroes and go back and wipe up Phrophecies once and for all.
A lot has changed for a Ranger but since I have it at level 20 I guess I'll keep it. I thought I had changed to top armor but I hadn't and all my money is still in my account. Too bad I couldn't have gotten compound interest from it... 4 1/2 years since I played this game.

I will go see what characters I have, if any in Nightfall. Think last time logged, I deleted most, none over lvl 6; buncha primary professions, none with a dedicated secondary. Bogged down in deciding which is easiest (read: mindless) to play. And which expansion to start (Nightfall or Factions) with the earliest access back to Prophecies with heroes.
Later edit: welp, Fred is Dead. Probably previously deleted so I wouldn't be tempted by a lvl 20 that I really don't want to play.
Leaving:
Silky Thistledown (4) - Ranger, Factions
Candee Apple (3) - War, Nightfall
Olivia Branch (5) - Ranger, Nightfall
I'm going to try a Nightfall Elem & Factions Assassin. Maybe a Monk. At this rate, might be weeks before I exit the starter zones.
A moment of silence for Fred....
I still have good old Mann Ray and am running 3 heroes around Night Fall getting the hang of it. Much more complicated than henchies if I wanted it to be seeing as how I can outfit them to my heart's delight. I'm using a Warrior, a Monk and a Dervish cause I love the scythe. I do like that I can control them like in a regular RPG instead of just watching them rush headlong to their death, leaving me standing and shaking my head.
I am getting ready for some big fight or something but first I want to check out the other hero options though these three seem pretty alright. I am also tempted just to shuttle them over to Phrophecies and try them out at Droknar's Forge.
I have the best armor I can get after all in Phrophecies, just need to pick up Barrage, etc.
Yapette, I see you have 2 rangers. What possessed you?
I have yet to get Factions or Eye of the North. I never paid attention to deals and was impatient so I just bought Night Fall for 30.00 from the store. I imagine I'll look on eBay for the rest if this sticks this time and my IP behaves.

Now I wish Fred weren't dead - one can change name, gender and looks with enough RL $. Then I could play at your lelvel.
Ranger = distance + middlin' armor.
Elementalist = “glass cannon”
I hate face-to-face combat. Unfortunately, most GW professions seem to be that, except maybe the Necro. I couldn't stand the male's hunched over body (Finkbug) but maybe the female stands upright and if so, I'll give it a whirl. The Mesmer “casts” curses but seems too complicated for the effort I'm willing to spend.
Despite being totally lost & confused (bless universal I, L & M), the Nightfall ranger is now lvl 6.5. She didn't even have a bow - I must have loaned it to Silky T. And somehow she picked up a snuffling boar named Truffles who doesn't do a damn thing.
My brain may be unable to absorb enough to play GW while concurrently in Oblivion & Gothic 3. For example, spacebar starts conversations in Oblivion. You can guess how pissed off the npcs in Gothic 3 when spacebar draws my weapon for combat. [Image Can Not Be Found]
I'll be on later tonight and can give you one of my bows. You can also go to the beginner's area in Night Fall and ask the Ranger trainer for a bow. She told me to go away cause I was a level 20 but I made her give me a bow anyway.
GW is really "about the Maths" as someone wrote on one of the forums. I suppose if you were all about Magic the Gathering or some such all this shuffling of builds would be fun but I just want to explore the cool enviroment and fight. I've noticed with Heroes my ranger seems to stand back a lot further. Just have to remember not to mouse click on the melee or into the soup I go. [Image Can Not Be Found]
I can't imagine playing Fallout 3, Oblivon and GW all at the same time. My brain would explode.

Are you wondering why the warrior? If I so hate melee combat in my face? Here's my thinking, please comment.
Somebody's got to "pull" aggro and maybe I can do a better job than A.I. controlled Heroes. Then, Koss the warrior can run in behind me while the rest of my party spams damage & heals from afar. Bearing in mind, I have no clue about skills (playing 3-4 professions simultaneously) or key commands. At level 3, I haven't yet taken my warrior out with henchbots to see if this is workable.
My brain *is* exploding but at least it isn't in danger of atrophy.
Or, you might master the grouping and waypoint system that was added to your mini-map interface. I merely offer the suggestion. I haven't yet used it helpfully except in the training mission that introduced it. And it requires, you know, like a STRATEGY, which I rarely have, other than "Bash them all as fast as possible." But I know you like to avail yourself of all the possibilities a game presents (and then some!).
I used the mini-map interface last night to "pin" my heroes in place while I pulled mobs to them. It works very well, esp for a ranger and makes using bots much more enjoyable. What a relief to finally be able to keep the monk back a bit instead of looking up from my skill bar to find them face down dead in the dirt in the middle of a melee, taking their Rez skill with them. The Heroes look like they will make this game more enjoyable for solo players like me. Which is very old news but I've been single playing for years now. It will be interesting to learn more about micro managing the Heroes, outfitting them, etc. And two players can take 3 Heroes each on Missions which makes it much more doable with a friend. PUG were never my thing.
So far my IP is behaving too.
Hey jaspar, are you still playing GW?
Is the FFC guild dead?
I might reopen a Bollocks thread for GW seeing as how we lost it in the fire.
Members
FFC guild was alive & empty while Fred was alive as the Last Standing Leader. Here's hoping I transferred leadership to another alt before offing Fred. And didn't subsequently delete *that* leader in a mindless purge. I'll check.
Hey, jasper! Good to see you. Can you help me make a plan? I want to play all expansions, nevermind order or storyline, with heroes ("walk in the park" comes to mind). Can you suggest an order to play? Where to start and when to move between (GW, NF, EotN, Fac) to get the most hero bang for my level?
Otherwise, without a plan I must stay with Oblivion & Gothic 3. My brain is beginning to leak cells. [Image Can Not Be Found]
A plan? I'm not the person to ask. It's been about 2 years since I played seriously or followed the game, although I still pop in from time to time to visit with my characters.
So, What's the point of a plan? Are you wanting to see the most pretty scenery? get the fullest narrative? avoid incurring a death penalty of 40%? collect skills or pretty armor? Probably Oblvion and Gothic 3 are the better choices.

Excellent questions!
a) See the most scenery (I play to explore) and b) avoid death while doing so. c) cast fireballs if possible.
I'm lost in GW's storyline although I read every word of dialog. Armor, weapons & skills are only meaningful (to me) so far as they make it easier to attain A and B. Bonus if C.
Thanks for asking as I hadn't thought about it before. My answer applies to pretty much all games that I play. Unless I'm playing for the story, which usually is not rpgs. Orphan with Amnesia? Chosen to Save the World? [Image Can Not Be Found]
Okay, so cross-country trekking without too much nuisance from your party wiping just before you get to the pretty waterfall? I'd suggest starting your character, hmm, I'm guessing an elementalist, maybe? in Nightfall and progress through the beginning missions and quests, picking up as many heroes as you can along the way. At some point, probably about level 16 or so, you will be able to choose quests that gives you access to the Prophecies campaign from missions after you reach Lion's Arch, and to the Factions campaign somewhere in the middle, presumably comparable to where you land in the Prophecies campaign. Once you have them, you can take your heroes with you to the other campaigns.
Keep in maind that you also need to nurture your heroes and make sure you take them in your party in order to get experience so that they can level up--that does not happen automatically as you level up--and earn skill points so that they can get new skills too.
Once you have a good group of nicely developed heroes, you should be able to do a great deal of exploring in all three campaigns and land areas and ETON as well. Both Prophecies and Nightfall campaigns have missions you have to do to get from one major land area to another, and for all I know, Factions does too. But other than that, you can do as much sightseeing as you want.
Let me know if you want to go exploring somewhere--I don't have ETON, but I have the three campaigns.
I agree with jaspar. Heroes are the way to go. I went to Nightfall with my level 20 Ranger and picked up 3 heroes and returned to Prophecies. Life is MUCH easier now with characters I can control. Add a couple of henchies to the mix and the game flows much more nicely. Being a ranger with a balanced set of bots is great for PvE. I just flag them, explore ahead and then bring them on up. If I hit mobs I can control the pull nicely, leading foes back into my gang. I finished two advanced missions, Ice Caves Of Sorrows and Iron Mines of Moladune last night using a wiki walkthrough and playing at placing my heroes in postiions where they would best work. I almost even killed Marik, the nasty ranger traitor in Moladune with just me and the hero Monk until my Interrrupt shots started just missing. I finally loosened the hounds on him as I was impatient to capture his Barrage skill…which I did get.
Net result, I'm much more equipped to explore with the heroes from Nightfall. I was so encourgaged I just picked up Factions from eBay for 8.99 plus shipping.
Though as luck would have I decided to just wander a bit around the Maguuma Jungle and ran right into a place called Majesty's Rest, a little fort bristling with very nasty dragons, and one of the hardest fights in the entire Phrophecies campaign… something about a boss called Rotscale. It was tucked away in an area that before was simply beyond my ability to access. I will go back later…
I think I want to start working a Necro hero into the mix too. Right now I'm using a Dervish, a Warrior and a Monk. I have some skill points I can spread around and am getting some interesting drops for the Warrior and the Monk.

Jasper Jade Bristlecone - I saw you after you'd logged out!1!1
I was d/ling the 10,xxx part patch - away from the computer - multi-tasking with a vacuum. Then I wandered back & saw Olivia was actively standing in the game. Then, then I stood a few minutes swinging my view around stupidly with the mouse, afraid to move. Thenx3 I thought to open the chat window. And what to my wondering eyes should appear but a message from a Bristlecone!
Lucky for me you kept your family name. [Image Can Not Be Found] But alas, you were already gone. [Image Can Not Be Found]
I forgot that would have been a new name for you. But fortunately, all my characters are related [Image Can Not Be Found] Makes it easier for me.
I figured you were either busy or had forgotten how to do the chat interface [Image Can Not Be Found] Just a few minutes earlier, I was too busy trying to keep my party alive in a mission and wouldn't have seen anybody in the chat window, even if they were leaping up and and down and waving their arms.
But I did get through the mission (yay me!) after being on hold with it for the last 2 years or so. I'm now about to reach the first fork in the Nightfall campaign missions.

Should we move to Bollocks? It's not like we're playing together or reporting in regularly.
That said, last night I started a monk in Factions. Love the setting & character models so much more than Nighfall, despite the absence of heroes. She's leveling so fast - lvl 8 and still doodling around with secondary tryouts. None of which I like btw, but these quests give badges, exp & gold.
Anyone have suggestions for Mo/? No matter what training or quests, my team has stayed: Warrior, Healer, Spiritualist + me (Monk, or not). With 2.5 healers out of 4, I've only died once! 'Course we likewise don't do a whole lotta damage but after a thousand paper cuts, we eventally triumph.
I will return to Nightfall & Olivia (R/Mo). As soon as I hit a brick wall and we start dying in Factions. [Image Can Not Be Found]
