Outcast was the first game I played that had a full orchestral score. I was blown away.

That was pretty sweet Amy! I love that particular wind instrument, whatever it happens to be called. I only ever played the demo of Outcast and it was enthralling. I'm not entirely sure why my brother and I never picked it up though.

As underrated as Brink is, it saddens me that the soundtrack didn't get much love, because it's wonderful. I love how each faction puts a different spin on the main melody, hell, even the body types change the sound of the music.

So I watched Last of the Mohicans over the weekend and I take it back xtal: a bit in the soundtrack totally reminded me of the 'feels' bit in the Uncharted theme but it wasn't from Promentory. The bit preceding it however, this bit (till about 2:26), actually reminded of a section in Hans Zimmer's Gladiator soundtrack... uh, let me dig it out... here (at the beginning). Now, the bit in the LotM soundtrack that I mean... hmm... grr... wow, where is it...? Aha! Here. Compare to here! They're practically the same notes so you were right xtal and I was rung. RUNG!

Anyway, game music!

Here's a golden oldie I remembered recently that is up there with Morrowind's theme and Drake's for me.

I love this track from Steamworld Dig too.

Don't think I've posted that before.

Oh I've meant to play Steamworld Dig but, ya know ... stuff.

As for MoH: AA, that was a loooooong time ago but I recall it having a good soundtrack. Like the first Call of Duty too.

Did someone post the Morrowind theme on one of these 4 pages? I'm pretty sure that happened.

I know I said stuff about trying not to buy remakes and re-remakes and whatnot with the new consoles but I would find a Morrowind remake pretty irresistible. I mean, I know people have modded the graphics on PC to be prettier but I mean if the whole thing was just a bit modernized and made slightly less Elder Scrolls-y, with all its awkwardness. I know there's some charm that shouldn't be lost; surely there's a balance to be struck.

This.

I've been watching the Skywind project trailers with great interest. Their attention to detail is impressive, and I like the little touches they've added - hot springs, waterfalls, that kind of stuff. These huge conversion projects typically fall apart, but they claim they're quite close to an initial release. That said, their videos are heavy on landscape, but people and activities are notably absent.

Morrowind was such a huge achievement. I'd love to see Bethesda remake it, but not for a while. In ten years or so. I can wait.

I got a hankering to play some Persona 3 the other day, which sparked an old interest in playing another game in the Shin Megami Tensei universe called Digital Devil Saga.  So I picked it up on PSN (Sony's PS2 emulator seems pretty solid) and am having a great time.  And all this after just bashing JRPGs in the comments on AJ's Bravely Default review on the frontpage.  grin

Anyway, it is a great game, but even better is the music, which is the best of any SMT game I've ever played.  I guess Shoji Meguro is pretty well regarded, and rightly so.  Some samples:

From what I've heard, the whole of the SMT series has great music.  I'm partial to the poppy Persona 3 & 4 soundtracks myself, because I adore those games.

Well speaking of Persona 4, here's one that goes out to all of you who're feeling a little melancholy tonight...
