I have it on good authority that you have also bought disk duplicates of games you already owned but had forgotten you did. Or the originals were so hopelessly lost in the bins that you never realized. [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]

You mean someone here hasn't done that?

@Yapette I wouldn't do it just because I'd rather spend money on new games that I still won't have time to play.  Also, the big world BG2 thingy made installation of BG somewhat, well, moderately, well, okay it was painful but not destructively so like my current reinstallation of Oblivion.  Two Worlds I was thinking of playing–never did.  But it's even got a sequel!  Heck I haven't even played NWN2; still sitting in its box(es) (because of course I bought the expansions).  And there's some game…what is it called.  Drakensang?  Had one encounter, seemed like 20 people to talk to, and I gave up.

The Divine Divinity and Gothic sequels–I'll just have to play them in my next life.

But question for you: have you encountered any problems playing older games on the 64 bit version of Win7?

@Toger: I still have never played past about the first dungeon of Arcanum.  Is it worth it now?  I remember lots and lots of bugs when I first tried it (way back when the game first came out).  Not that Ben will let me play it (see my other post about his predilection for shooters).

Ernest, personally, I'd rather pay peanuts for older "games I won't have time to play" (to quote you) than full price on newer games I won't have time to play. Eventually, as I'd have nothing played (seeing as I have no time), the new games will become older at which time I can buy them cheaply. [Image Can Not Be Found]

It is I who have played Arcanum before, maybe 60%. On XP so I don't yet know how it adjusts to win7 64-bit. To avoid having to troubleshoot it myself, I bought GOG's version. Although recently when Mass Effect seemed to have difficulty starting, I set the .exe to XP SP2 and it played flawlessly.

When you decided to do that BigWorld mod I didn't join as I'd already played BG (with tutu which required installing BG2 thus allowing BG to be played using BG2's better graphics, ui, etc). This time I will simply (!) mod BG2.

Did you try the total conversion mod (Nehrim) for Oblivion? Now that is a painless way of sorta playing a modded Oblivion using a simple .exe install. True, the story & play isn't the same, but the mod uses Oblivion's graphics. [Image Can Not Be Found] And I think it's heaps better than the original Oblivion.

About Oblivion, once I got it all tarted (uh, modded) up & running without hiccups, even though I (finally) finished both the main story & Shivering Isles, I refused to uninstall for fear I'll want to return. My solution was to abandon the entire hard drive (with XP) & use another HDD to install win7 as C: (boot). By changing the boot order in BIOS, I can play Oblivion with mods on XP.

(p.s. yes, I know about xp/win7 dual boots, in my case not possible due to various stuff).

I actually understood that.

I haven't tried the Nehrim mod.  I would possibly at some point except that I'll probably never actually finish the un-Nehrim game.  I had installed it in XP but by the time I wanted to play it again I'd switched to Win7.  Though apparently I don't need to reinstall games in Win 7 (I'd done a clean install), I didn't know what all the mods were so I figured I'd reacquaint myself with them.  There's a mod–BOSS–which supposedly sets up a load order for the mods.  It also apparently works in FO3.  Which I'll test at some point.  Oh about 2015.

My biggest problem with Oblivion: I run around looking doing etc. and then after a while it just starts to seem lonely.  It's not as though the NPCs actually can talk to me.  Maybe starts to feel kind of like a Twilight Zone episode.  Maybe is kind of like…I forget the term–about people's reactions to robotic faces which are almost but not quite human.  The NPCs are almost but not quite human, you know?

I have bought every one of those stinking games and I have never finished a one.  I still remember the spaghetti dungeons of The Elder Scrolls: Arena.  To this day I have no idea why it was called Arena.

Based on my experiences with Win 7, you might be able just to copy over the oblivion file from your old hard drive and play from there.  But then again, why?  I mean, sounds like you've finished it twice already.

Simpler just to procrastinate until the new one comes out, then face all these issues all over again.

Most games I might want on GOG I've once own in boxed version and checked out enough to know whether or not I want to play it or not. So I've either played them or rejected them already.  I have this wonderful gift of a kinda simple brain. [Image Can Not Be Found] I never think about what I might wanna play until right before I wanna play it. Once I got rid of all the physical copies I've never really thought about them again. I think, "Oh yeah, I remember that game."

So...no. I can be the other end of your sample, Yap. Somewhere along the line I lost the urge to acquire video games. Much less digital duplicates.

Except I bought 2 copies of Blue Heat (actually a pretty good game) when it dropped from 300.00 to 1.89, just because it's funny to see them on my shelf, two perfect, shrinkwrapped copies of a game you once couldn't find for any amount of money.

Scout, I hope your extinguished urge (to own more, more! and more!!! boxed games) is not in any way related to mine. I keep wondering how I will fit my gaming habit into an assisted living apt. Not that the move is imminent or ever, but I like to be prepared. Unlike you, I think....and plan....way, way ahead. Not counting still dvd-cased recent games I have yet to play, I'd like to replace a shelf of massive heavy-as-hell case logic storage "books" of game cds with a handful of flash drives. Kilos --> grams is my goal.

My preference, of course, is to live forever surrounded by my two houses' 4700 sq. ft. of stuff.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yap, I had no idea that Two Worlds had multiplayer! We'll definitely have to try that out as I've not played multiplayer in ages. I picked up Arcanum in a previous sale, so that's sitting there patiently waiting as well.

@Ernest, what Yap said - she was the one who'd played Arcanum. And I'm still running XP SP3 (I'm always behind the curve).
