Glad to hear you like it Gregg. This game changed quite a bit from its initial Early Access release until now, from simple balance tweaks to completely new or changed features. So despite having spent quite a bit of time with it months ago, it's in many ways a new game. I haven't actually delved into it in its final release form, but I will soon. It's been getting pretty much universal praise from the press.

JG if that type of thing troubles you, then yeah you might want to keep your distance. It can suck you in since there are so many tactical and strategic options. Still, I recommend it without reservation. It's just a very well-executed little game and I've no regrets about backing it.

I sunk about 34 hours into DD before I had to stop as the grind was killing me. I don't think my opinion on a game has deflated so quickly in a long time. I loved it for the best part of 20 hours or so, but then it dawned on me that I'd not really done anything different in the last 10. I was in a cycle of switching heroes, visiting the same places, fighting the same enemies, hoping to score some loot to upgrade my heroes/hamlet to deal with tougher areas/enemies (which were the same, only with bigger numbers). I'd barely scratched the surface too by this point, so I decided to park it for a while. I think they've introduced a new character and some other mechanics to reduce the grind since. Who knows, I may return to it yet, but I can't deny how much I enjoyed it when it was fresh. It's a tremendously evocative game and I do so miss the narrator.

Well, I wrote it down (secretly) somewhere on my to-do list - in the section named "when oh, the dreaded real life weakens it's grip".
Nice!
I stand by my endorsement, but I also can't discount Gregg's misgivings. I think the pitfall he mentions is a real concern. You can get into a rut of sorts out of which there's no clear path. Also, consider that I haven't actually finished the game. Most of my time with the game came during early access when the titular dungeon wasn't even available yet.
