I mentioned this game a while back. Now it's got a Kickstarter campaign:

Here's a Q/A with the lead artist while he's working, plus the lead designer.

This looks sooo good. I adore the artwork.
I spotted this on Kickstarter recently too:

Dix, as a fellow Risk of Rain-er, you might dig that.
I just love the idea so much. We've never seen this. Have we? How many dungeons have we all collectively delved - you know, as gamers - and I've never thought about the psychological stresses of dungeoneering. If nothing else the Kickstarter phenomenon has unleashed a latent creative cleverness in our indies that must be encouraged.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
I got my Steam early access key. I don't normally do these types of things, preferring to wait for the final release, but the nature of the game makes it easier to simply take it for a spin, as it were. I'm really liking what I see so far. It does not pull any punches and the psychological aspects really add to the atmosphere and tension. It makes the stakes feel higher, and the rewards sweeter. No regrets at all about backing this one. Games of this scope are perfect for the crowd-funding model in my opinion, similar to, say, FTL.

As Gregg mentioned, the art style is beautiful. It looks even better "in motion". I put that in quotes because though there is animation, it's very stylized, with dramatic cuts and flourishes. Perfect for a small-scale budget and the turn-based combat. There's a narrator who acts as a sort of play-by-play commentator. Whoever the voice actor is he really nails it.
I've already spent an embarrassing amount of time with this game. It really is a winner from what I've seen.

Lots of changes since I last played a few months ago. Some of them pretty fundamental to the gameplay. I think they're mostly positive though. They've added a couple more classes too. This game is still in early access though. I would have thought they'd be done by now, but no. I don't think you can objectively call this one an early access failure, but I also don't think an extended time in this state is ever ideal.

After finishing Life is Strange I decided to get in on Darkest Dungeon and wow, is this game cool or what? I love the narrator's voice and his delivery of the really flavourful writing. The visuals are, of course, beautiful. I had my first near party wipe earlier today but one guy managed to escape. We were right on the brink of completing our quest but the stress, the lack of food and light and the onslaught of attacks from the last battle was too much.
I love the thought, care and attention that has to go into preparing for embarkation and stocking your provisions. "The cost of preparedness. Measured, now in gold, later, in blood..."
