Hey, Nintendo does not remake the same 3 or 4 games. Frankly I think they have the most creative output by far of any publisher with any sort of market share. It's just that the only Nintendo games anyone cares about are Zelda and Smash Bros., both of which have been allergic to change since about 1997.
"Home is not a place. It is wherever your passion takes you."
I wasn't implying that their quality is stagnant (except for Zelda, one might argue). I mean, almost every new Mario game is beloved, and of course Smash Bros. is massive when that comes out on every new Nintendo box. More a jab that I don't see them taking any sharp left turns or thinking up a new series. Not that a company with 80 gajillion dollars in the bank needs to do anything differently.

No bundle, I just got a Best Buy gift card one day that cut the cost in half so I went for it. It's funny, between the price drop of the Bone and the terrible decision by Sony to raise the PS4 price in Canada by $50, the Bone is actually $50 cheaper now.
Anyhoo, the console itself is nice. Looks good, is relatively small compared to other consoles, runs quiet minus a bit of a 20-30 second hum upon start-up and doesn't even have an unsightly power brick so it's really great if you don't want to have a mess of a system. Of course those are all pretty minor things .. and where it counts (games) I'd say it's pretty lacking right now. The majority of games available have to be either indie games (not a bad thing) or reissues (a la TLoU Remastered), while the big names of the year continue to disappoint or be mostly underwhelming from what you hear (Infamous, Watch Dogs, Destiny). I'm not buying reissues of any games I played on PS3 because I think it's just ridiculous. I hear so many people complain about the reissues but then talk about how they're enjoying them. I'm voting with my wallet by not buying them unless it's a game I didn't play in the first place (like Reaper of Souls). I cringe when I hear people talking about how good GTA V looks on the new consoles. It looks marginally fucking better, and it looked great just 12 months ago! It's not like this is a remake of GTA III, the game is barely a year old!!
The layout of your "home screen" or whatever you want to call it is pretty bad; I'm sure no one likes it and it'll be changed someday. You can't even make folders right now so it's just one long row of your games and stuff.
At the end of the day I got it because I play games, and this is where a majority of games will come out for the foreseeable future. And if Bloodborne is good, or if The Last Guardian ever comes out, bonus.
I do think the shift toward indie will continue rapidly and more than people expect as "traditional" games are more often viewed as annualized cash-ins. From what I played of the Destiny alpha and betas that game is one example of how badly traditional developers can miss the mark and not realize why people like games. I know it has a lot of apologists but it wasn't fun in the least to me. If that's where big budgets are going then there's going to be a lot of disappointed people over the next few years.
A few more average AAA games and people are going to start hitting the panic button. There's only so much room at the top, and it's already pretty damn crowded with your Madden/FIFAs, Call of Duty, GTA, etc...I don't know how much longer there can be AAA or AA titles that aren't from already established franchises. And that is obviously bad for the medium. I really do think what we call indies today will just be the complete norm in a few years; almost like we just hit the reset button. I'm not one to say things like "oooh this will be the last generation of consoles!" but I do think the PS4/Xbone are way too similar to their predecessors, and I don't think that will be sustainable come the next round. It wouldn't surprise me if either Sony or Microsoft exit the game, or someone new joins the fray. Ironically I think the console that Microsoft never released (their original vision of the Xbox One) would have, over time, been seen as the most "next-gen" thing on the market. But a lot of loud, shout-y video game-playing people, who are far more traditional than they'd ever care to admit, with their foot stomping kept their safe place pretty traditional. With the lack of creativity from the big publishers these days the PS3/360 probably could have gone on for another 2-3 years just off indie support.
I enjoy most of the games I've been playing on my PS4 but not many of them needed that hardware to run (Dead Nation, Fez, Wolfenstein, AC4). And the games that have obviously benefited from it only do so because they cranked out more intense particle effects and such to look cooler (Resogun, Diablo 3). The only thing that's really made me say "wow" was P.T.
Actually the thing that's most disappointing to me is the battery life of the controller; the PS3 controller seems to last forever but the PS4 one only gets you a handful of hours (kinda like the Vita) and the charging cord is really short. Sometimes I put my laptop on the coffee table and plug the controller into that out of necessity. Anyway, there's my rambling about new consoles.

Xtal I asked for details and you didn't disappoint. Thanks!
What is indeed disappointing is the controller battery life. You're right, that PS3 battery life was/is outstanding.

Completely agree. I'll even go further and state that those consoles, in terms of computing power alone, had plenty of legs to last that long.

Yep, it's sort of a bummer, the state of the industry, because it seems that 3/4ths game content that comes out could go on PS3/360/mid-level PCs for like I said another couple years, but their limitations were beginning to restrict the "need" to push graphics/splash/pizzazz forward. Those consoles each took a few years to fully take off, which mostly started to happen in 2007, so I think next year should be a lot more impressive as far as the new machines go. If they're not .. well that'll be a shame.

Welcome aboard Zoha.
I played Dragon's Dogma, and it was well-meaning but totally unremarkable. Not memorable at all. This may have been a symptom of my just coming off Dark Souls, which sort of ruined other games for me, but I can't recommend it except if it were under $5.
The whole invasion/summon mechanic is really clever. I hope we see it implemented ion the future, in Souls games and elsewhere. Something about the effect is very cool in certain gameplay circumstances.

Seems likely. I believe in kindness to robots, though, since I hope one day to have one that does all the cleaning around the house for me and I don't want it to participate in the inevitable uprising.
Yet another reason to look at replacing our forum software with some that's a little less infuriating to me. Once the thing stops filtering out the robots, it's time to move on.

I wonder if that will hurt its sales, now that it will come out after The Order 1886; on the surface the games look pretty similar, so the one-game-a-quarter folks might go in for The Order now instead of Bloodborne. I also wonder if the Sony had a hand in the delay or if it was at FromSoftware's behest.
Either way, another month to make the game better sounds good to me. Early-ish March then, I guess.

Here's some information that makes me want to squeal like a teenaged girl, not that I'd ever do that of course:

I guess I'll be taking the PS4 plunge at some point, unless this game defies all odds and really sucks (like Dark Souls 2 did). I'd really like to wait for a hardware revision and/or price drop though.

Oh come on! There is no sane universe in which Dark Souls 2 "sucked"! There are plenty where it "disappointed" or "did not live up to expectations," though I would counter that expectations should have been low to begin with, because sequels are a bad idea 75% of the time.
It still had so many of the things that give Dark Souls everlasting life:
- The combat
- The soundtrack (sometimes)
- Pretty places, scary places and cool places
- A strong variety of ways to play your character
- Talking cats
- Fuckface jerk dogs
I dare you to challenge one of those six things! Nothing can ever make the Earthen Peak -> Iron Keep elevator make sense (unless the elevator is replaced with a teleporter) but it's not all bad nonsense!

This is the part where I reiterate that Dark Souls 2 is, indeed, teh suxx0rz. And anyone who disagrees with me is stupid and ugly and quite possibly molests animals.
Oh OK fine! Having not actually finished the game, I can't go so far as to say it sucks. But I can say that I hated it. So here's my modified statement: "...unless this game defies all odds and causes me, in my wise and just opinion, to hate it."
There, happy now?
I challenge the first item on your fancy-schmancy bullet list. But instead of what it reads, I would write something more like "The floaty, loose, un-fun combat."
