I solved the murder last night and met the guilty party in a battle. Also, I passed all the master's tests except for Abrax. Are there 5 of them? I don't know about Palas, since he isn't talking but think his is done too. The murder mystery was fun to work through, but I am ready for exploring outside the monastery. There is still a part of it that I haven't been able to get in yet. Those runes are expensive. I'll probably buy the ones I think I'll need the most.

I hear that the stew from the monastery kitchen is supposed to raise strength +2. Eating it doesn't do that. How does it work?

Went into the cellar but couldn't open the red “door” (seen help posts on forums, never read 'em) & didn't find Abrax.

Got a broom & swept dirt cuz I'm a nice guy – no one noticed. Can't find a replacement for pig-shoveler.

No turkey. Gave Rufus the Book.

Heard no bad noise from a particular door but periodic snuffling & snorting seems to be in the main room.

Just got the list from Pallas, haven't looked at it.

Once outside again, did an unreliable scientific comparision of sword/shield vs. staff against that winged bug left of 3 goblins, in front of a cavern opening (which I couldn't get to). Aric's weapon (+1 sword) & shield = I almost killed that bug dead, but he killed me at the last moment. Executioner's Staff (38dam, +1 staff ring) = bug won quickly with ~60% health.

My results indicate I'd better continue with sword till underpowered – without blacksmith & sword trainers, we can't create, equip, train endgame swords. Maybe….later, when I am more dead than alive….I'll gift myself more LP & swap to staff. [Image Can Not Be Found] Did you read the post recommending axes? We can train (?), and one-handed so we can use shields? That theory is worth a code-gifted experiment which I will conduct later, when I'm done with training.  If you happen upon a super axe, let me know where, ok?

I stole from midnight until the monks got up in the morning. [Image Can Not Be Found] However does one advance in Risen without sneak & lockpicking?

Looking for Abrax, remember the “open” crystal (not the red door). The turkey is not live, like I thought it would be. Repeated talking to characters reveals information.

I was able to kill the winged bug with Aric's sword. Sometimes in tough fights I have to run away and down a potion or eat some herbs and then return to finish it off.

The axe sounds interesting. Much better than the staff, especially if you can use one with the shield. I'm nervous about abandoning the sword though. I haven't seen any great axes yet. I do have an axe ring, which helps. Do you know the level at which you can use an axe and a shield?

I did find a broom and someone has a quest for it, but I don't know who. I thought I would sweep up the debris and find a clue but that wasn't true.

I completed all my tasks and was initiated as Warrior of the Order. Got some better armor and a bunch of upgrades. Also got a mages staff that kills pricklys and wolves in 2-3 swings. All quests in the monastery are done. William will have a new one for you. I'm heading out now. Even have to go back to the swamp to see the Don.[Image Can Not Be Found]

I'm exhausted! [Image Can Not Be Found]

I too am an initiated Warrior. Did you take all strength options? I did. Then trained +3 ice crystals and found out I cast like crap! My measly 40 mana is gone while I am still dinking around trying to hit a bug. Then it thaws within 2-3 seconds. Not the helpful combat defense I was hoping for. Also trained swords +3 knowing I won't hesitate a second to change direction by coding myself LPs for staff or axe. Whatever keeps me alive. Although I am better at intentional blocking, my use of combat “skills” is more random chance.

Playing in the monastery, wasn't that the neatest thing ever? Would love to have a longer adventure game just like that.  Instead of the current drek published as adventure genre. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Left off on the west coast, a cliff overlooking the beach (ignoring quests in the east), just above extensive ruins. Lvl 12, almost 13.

The monastery was great once I learned my way around. I wish I was there now. I am in a swamp NW of the rope bridge on the east shore, looking for Cyrus and some thieving gnomes. It is dark, infested with rot worms and after a long trudge, I ended up at a big locked grate I can't get through. Hurry up and head out here and rescue me. I tried to figure a way out here from the map, but I didn't do so well. [Image Can Not Be Found]

You are level12! How did you do that when we did the same quests at the monastery? You must have come there at a higher level. I am at level 10, nearly 11. I didn't even see choices at the initiation. I saw +2 strength and mana, I think. I am at 45 strength now. I decided on the fireball. The freeze uses the most mana. Tried the fireball level 2 on some skeletons and pulled out my staff real quick. I'll save it for when I can stand on a big rock. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Later...glad I had a teleport stone. I left that miserable swamp and tried a different tack that was much easier. I have a tough battle with the gnome boss.

The cook at the swamp has some good axes–a 58 damage at 45 strength.

Ok, Pokey, do not pay attention to what I may, might, most likely will do next. Involving buying the swamp axe (thanks for the info!), and “finding” enough LPs to train axe with Mr. Ogre guarding warehouses. Then go out & perform another unscientific triple test. Before advancing any further it would be beneficial to make up my mind.

You took fire? I very much wanted to but figured weapons are mana-free so best to rely on those for damage.

I mentioned my level because I'm such a crappy player vs. you are good yet lately I didn't have problems staying alive. Ergo: I must be substantially higher level than you. [Image Can Not Be Found] I killed outside the monastery, beside paths, found Leon's cabin, finished about all quests in Harbor City & the Swamp.

We're in Chapter 2 now & what I was dreading has come to pass: creatures have respawned. [Image Can Not Be Found] And most likely will soon be of a more lethal nature. [Image Can Not Be Found] I was quite enjoying the safety of cleared out areas.

Yap, I did buy the swamp axe--58 D. I had a lot of money so I thought I'd give it a try. Killed the ghoul, all the bog bodies and the war crickets guarding the entrance to the volcano caves. The ogre swatted me right down. The swamp is pretty much cleared now. I am at axe 2 with my ring. [Image Can Not Be Found]

It is most effective if you can back the enemy into a wall and then pound on him.[Image Can Not Be Found]

The Gyrger quest worked pretty good. We got killed the first battle, but then I tried the fireball and he went down with only 3 blasts. I was amazed. Lots of treasure there, but a couple chests I couldn't open and some bad skeletons. I'll go back later with some open scrolls. I tried the fireball on the skeletons and the ogre with little effect. Strange.

I'm at level12 now after killing all the gnomes, etc. Actually I stood and watched the gnomes die and took the credit. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I think I'll head back to the city for a while. Feeling the need for civilization and Patty calls. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Fun with ogres. The big ogre behind the swamp camp took me out with one swing. I decided to lead him to the camp to see what would happen. He wiped out half the camp and then I led him to that nasty Brogar. [Image Can Not Be Found]   As Brogar was stamped out, I saw "get rid of Brogar for good" and got 500 XP. Even Rachel and Oscar joined in. When he was down to a sliver, I got in the last hit and was awarded 300XP.

I reloaded because you never know, I might need them, but it was fun while it lasted.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

I also thought of leading that one-punch orge back to the camp, and like you knew I'd better not kill named npcs. Wonder how the game would progress if you got the ogre into the Don's cave? [Image Can Not Be Found]

Decided for sure, I'm going with axes. (Underhandedly) took back my sword pts, put 'em into axe. Trained two more levels. Plus the ring. Equals six when axes are one-handed. Shields forever!! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Been meaning to tell you what I read about ogres: vulnerable to blunt, not so much blade. Wonder if the skellies* are similar, being a bag'o bones & all. Some rpg skeletons can't be damaged by swords. If you've noticed, both staves & axes have very specific blade or blunt damage. During my decision making, I bought both kinds but found no way to quickly swap (#2 weapon is only bow/crossbow). Decided to go w/ blade as that was the best one sold. 70 str to equip which I just managed – mage @ Don's place sells the +5 str recipe, I could make 3.

Now I am nearly penniless with no stockpiled LPs. [Image Can Not Be Found]

* where I left off, dead x3 while fighting 3 skellies in the mountain pass to the East. BTW, did you see those blobby big creatures with trees growing out of their backs grazing by a pond? Only made out sillhouettes cuz I sure wasn't getting closer than that.

I'm not impressed with the available swords. If you can use a shield at level 6, I may go that way. The ogre will train to level 6, maybe more?  That is useful information about blunt versus blade. I kinda prefer blade.

Have you gotten into alchemy? It might be wise to make healing potions as they get expensive as the hit points go up. I think it can be done at level 2.

I'm not going to trudge to the east any more. Too much work. I just pull out a levitation spell and fly direct. Nice.[Image Can Not Be Found] I have to go back for the Cyrus quest and get those chests I couldn't open in the gnome's camp. I did write some open spells and they work on just about everything.

I saw something that looked like a dragon, a thunder lizard, and some strange blobs in the bog that I didn't get close to.

Two ogres – one at Don's guarding the gold & other guarding warehouses. According to forums, both will train to 10. Don't know if we piss off the Bandits in a later chapter & can't return.

I really must begin some questing, haven't looked at the log since forever. Cyrus? Who's he? [Image Can Not Be Found]

I'm lvl 3 alchemy, need that to make perm stat potions.

Only bought two spell recipes: nautilus and….ummm….levitation? I'll have to check, flying around sounds great. Mayhaps I can bypass the mountain tunnel full of skellies.

I did talk to Patty & got lvl 3 lockpicking which means I can't afford any more spell recipes. Even if I knew where to buy 'em.

Do you really need level 3 lockpicking if you have the open lock rune? She offered to train me but I turned it down. I'll have to think about it as there may be a lot of hard chests ahead. We are looking for the gold but I am stalled and not sure what to do. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Whew, against my better judgement I went back into Risen. Now my neck feels like a thousand bee stings (from tension).

Got the 2nd vassal's ring & killed Gryger with the help of my bud, the hunter. What horrid weather, couldn't see a thing either above or below ground. Plus getting lost & turned around.

With lvl 3 I opened all the chests – too lazy to F8 & reload as I break picks. Figure anything harder than I can open @ 3 the game doesn't mean for us to open by conventional means.

Find Leon's cabin, he has a quest for 5 rings all over the island. You could do that while visiting graves (I'm assuming you're doing Patty's search).

Found the open lock recipe….and 2 summon skelly spells. Can't wait to try those – read you can heal your skelly with scrolls & keep him for days.

My problem was that I was looking at the wrong quest map. All is clear now. I found the 5 graves, also Leon, but I only had one grave to go when I saw him. Sounds like another cross country trek. My acrobat ring came in handy a few times on the grave search.

It was really dark for me at the gnome's place too. Had to use a torch. Did you kill the skeletons there too? I have to go back when stronger. I have a lot of learning points to spend. Have to figure out how to use them.

I'm anxious to use the summon skeleton spells too. Sounds like fun.[Image Can Not Be Found]

Yeah, the skeletons are dead. Not some super baddie inside a cave or something (so dark, hunter says not that way, we died) – I'll return later. I didn't talk to the hunter after Gyrger so he continued helping me.  Lucky break for me, talking wraps up his quest & he leaves. Lots of stuff to grab, I'm back at the monastery sorting my loot. Hoping I have enough gold to buy more Runes…is that what I'm supposed to call spell recipes? [Image Can Not Be Found]

Edit: this is meant to be "0" LPs….or maybe 10, I might of leveled in there. Pretty much done with secondary training. From now on axe & crystals (worthless pos that lowbie ice seems to be).

Any idea what a Beserker Spell is? Didn't take one when offered, saw a mention about what herb makes it (didn't pay attention) on a forum.

I have a berserker spell. Don't remember where I got it. I think it gives +50 strength for a short time. Might be very useful, especially at a lower level. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I tend to forget about the different spells. I could have used a light spell in the dark spots. Have you found a nautilus shell yet?

I see I just need to kill  a nautilus to get a shell.

Found Patty and am off to Harbor City. Wish I had a teleport stone for it. Have you found it?

Where's Patty? She told me to go ahead and she would meet me. Romanov is here but she is missing. I see a dot on my map way back in the ruins. I've done a lot in the meantime, so I guess I go all the way back and see if she is there.

Edit....Yes, she was there, so that quest has ended. I got the teleporter stone for Harbor Town. That will make life easier. Is there a disk in the Eastern Temple? I have 3 and Cyrus has one. The temple is the only possiblilty in my log. Off to find disks and rings, hoping to coordinate quests to save on travel.

Ahhhhhhhh! I rescued Eldric! With the help of Cyrus the mage. You haven't done that one yet? Ahhhhhhhhh!  I tanked for Cyrus, using tactics learned in WoW. Risen mages* at his level are awesome - his health bar stayed mostly full. *I* was gulping a potion & saving after every lizardman (or two). Thank heavens for corriders....I'd pull the lizmen & run back, then let Cyrus blast away. Good times.

I started visiting graves with the one above the pig farm. It wouldn't dig so I went on, subsequent graves let me dig. Now I must go back & try again. Only done 3, what is the 6th the notes speak of?

The Vassel ring in SE...no way can I get it now. BIG ORGRE blocking the way, he kills me dead. When my frost gets better, I'm going back to waste him.

* Cyrus has almost convinced me to play (some of) the game a second time by reloading at the monastery. Give myself super powers so I can see how differently it plays. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I just finished the Eldric quest. It was fun, though I had a hard time locating the ring to pull. I thought I would have to cross the broken bridge at the lava and have no Cyrus to help, but it wasn't necessary. Did you go over there?

I don't remember a pig farm and I thought there were only 5 graves. I'll check tomorrow.

No over the lava. I knew there was no survival without Cyrus. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I'd cased some of the place out as a snail, while there tried a dancing distraction (apparently unattractive to lizardmen). Then everyone noticed me. Die & reload. Decided Cyrus & I would do a frontal assault picking 'em off one by one.

When I met Davo? My immediate thought even before he finished talking, “I saved your butt, now go tell all your brethren I am a friendly – do not fight me.” [Image Can Not Be Found]

Monk tending pigs = pig farmer. Good to know 5 graves, not 6 although a note mentioned 5 graves + treasure so I assumed 6. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Oh, another tidbit picked up reading dev comments: both npcs & things sleep at night. Except nocturnal stuff like undead. Means it's possible to sneak past to get somewhere. Like past the BIG OGRE that I will try tonight.
