I found the winch pretty fast with a little discreet sneak and climbing. Talked to the ghost guy and got my notes. Now in Chapter 4 on the Titan armor quest. I have one peice so far, from the crypt near the Monastery. I am off to Harbor City to catch up with the locals and see if my pal Hot Pants Patty is still hanging in there. I have a Titan Sword I found after the blood bath of opening the Golden Gate but was told that I needed the Titan Hammer Thingie. Uh-oh. I have no points in Axe so I'm hoping my puny Titan Sword of Okay Smiting will do as I really don't want to have to run up my Axe skills this late in the game. At least I'm outta the volcano for a while and getting some sun.

I need to finish this game up this week and get Dragon Age. Toger's commentary is enabling me to buy and play more games. I ain't gonna upgrade my 4 year old pc until after Christmas so I hope it won't cave under my sudden gaming spurt.

You won't find Patty in Harbor City but will meet up on your way to find the armor. Don't worry about your axe skill. It works out in the end.

I just installed Dragon Age and got my DLC. I plan to do some looking around before starting to play for real.

I'm half drunk and just logged off Risen and am pissed off.

Here's why.

I'm about halfway into the Titan armor quest. I have cleaned out 3 crypts and have two to go. The Bandit cave and another cave somewhere up north. I'm annoyed that I'm only now finding the good armor and weapons at the very, very, very end of the game. I mean, what the fuck? (Excuse me but really….) I don't understand this mentality…only give out good stuff 6 minutes before the game ends. Lame.

I once heard that a REAL storyteller knows the ending before they begin to write. So…  Why do devs just wank off at the ending of EVERY game? Is it because they don't understand what people want? Is it because, despite all their advances, they are still just geeks? And every geek ass game before, every game they played at age 8 wanked off too?

Sigh. So. Stupid

Okay, I am, admittedly buzzed, but still….

May I make a suggestion?

Try writing the ending first. And then sleep on it for…oh…9 minutes…before commiting to it.

Also.

Just so Steerpike knows. (You don't really think he knows what his editorial staff is doing from one minute to the next, do you?)

I'm writing a review of this game.

And it just slipped a grade because of the so-far-boner ass ending. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Still, it's the first game in ages that has engaged me.

Sigh. So.

If you were (are) pissed ([Image Can Not Be Found] pun, right?) at the collecting armor stage, just wait'll you fight the End Boss. Which I couldn't as I can't jump&dodge&run&hit while trying to stay alive. Instead, I pretended that My Risen was a perfectly wonderful crpg game with lots of adventuring across 3.5 chapters. A+

So Yapette, you didn't finish the game? You declined the final boss battle? Good for you. Such subtle irony. If the devs just stop making a good game near the end and instead just plug in some lame boss battle scene found lying on the floor of the break room, well then they shouldn't be surprised when players see that it doesn't really fit the arc of the game.

Obviously, I haven't played the end boss fight yet but I guess it is as jarringly out of place as the one in Bioshock, right? When everything you have been doing up to that point is...well...pointless, unless you count the sheer amount of hours it took to get to the game as a feature in itself. "TAKES HOURS OF GAMEPLAY TO GET TO THE TOTALLY IRRELEVANT ENDING!"

Arggh. I know game devs don't do good endings. But surely they must have come up with another scenario by now other than a modular, plug-in-the-generic-boss-battle-and-call-it-a-day approach.

Grinding along on the armor quest. It's one long dungeon crawl really. I loved the Dark Lord chamber.

Dark Lord (in a deep voice): "Perhaps you may have noticed that you cannot inflict damage upon me. Now isn't that odd? Mwwwaaa Haaaa haaaa."

Me: "WTF" (hopping and running and beating on Dark Lord incessently.) "Just. Die. Already."

Dark Lord "However I have chosen to take up residence in quite an odd room, don't you think?"

Me: "No kidding. What is that grate in the middle for? Your yearly hosing down? And there are 4 big, huge buttons that no one could miss. Maybe I'll push one."

Dark Lord: "Noooo not  the buttons... not the buttons."

Me "Let me try this one." Zap!!!"Hmmmm. This is an odd room for an evil and mysterious Dark Lord to live in."

Spent the last 3 hours trying to defeat the fire titan. Finally just read a walkthrough.

I love it when an RPG turns into a platformer for the last battle. True lack of imagination. This is a horrible ending to a game that has been going down hill for a week now. Too bad. I really liked the first half but now it's just “eh”.

My wrist is sore from hopping around the stupid Wheel of Fortune. I might finish this and I might not. That's how riveted I am right now.

EDIT: I finally gave up and watched the ending on YouTube. Couldn't get the hang of the awkward platforming  weirdness thrown in at the end. What were they thinking? Ugh. I guess the joke is on me. I'll be more careful before buying any more games from PB from now on.  Risen is a C+ for me. The worst of the Gothics by a mile.

Sounds like a disappointing bit of closure to this game... I'm sorry to hear it.

Just so Steerpike knows. (You don't really think he knows what his editorial staff is doing from one minute to the next, do you?)

Steerpike has no freakin' idea what his editorial staff is doing from one minute to the next; they earned his faith long ago. After all these years together, it's trust, not 24/7 knowledge, that keeps me happy. So I'm eager to read your review, Scout, and to discuss your Dragon Age impressions when you've had a chance to spend some time with that game.

If you're looking for a kindred spirit, I too am half drunk and tossed a few pills back as well, just to keep the home fires burning. I also just ordered a pizza.

Game on!

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

I am still playing along at my own speed -- now and then and slow.   I have loved the early parts of this game when I explored and went to new places and began to understand what it was all about.   I also enjoyed building my character.

Now as I move forward I am getting tired of just killing things.  Especially these giant lizards that are everywhere.  The story seems to be fading and the fighting increasing.  I begin to wonder do I want to push to finish this.  Time will tell.   kay

Wow,  I got a Titan sword and that makes all the difference.  Me,  a Titan sword,  and a Beserker scroll can clean places up real fast.   I am now looking for the Titan armour.    I am ready to get this game finished.  kay

I spoke too fast.  Me with a Titan sword and everything else is just slogging through to the end.   I am getting there over multitudinous dead bodies and I have to ask myself ---  is this fun?  It isn't  but I seem to have a need to finish this off.   If and when I get to the end,  I will come back and debrief.
