I got the chest by my bed open after I saw the head mage. I bought a teleport spell from him, but I can't find it anyplace. It is not in my spell list.

Pokey, Teleporter Beware.

Read back to Scout's post, I haven't used mine yet. You need both a spell & a stone? rune? that's pricey but disappears after one use. I'm saving mine for an emergency or later when I feel wealthy. That is most certainly not now.

I thought I was pushing my mouse up to swim but apparently not enough. Thanks Yapette. I'm swimming now.

I'm not very rich either. I have 31 learning points and only 80 gold. I am noticing the cost for training is rising pretty quickly too so I'm going to buy as I go and not wait till the training price doubles. Thus I am always broke.

I'm hoping we find some "permanent" gems that don't get used up along the way. Elsewise I will be doing a lot of running. I need a four-legged friend.

I'm still exploring Erothin. I had an odd glitch. I went to the armorer and looked at his swords, etc. Then found a local fence and sold him my stolen goods. Upon return to the armorer he didn't have anything but a couple of things for sale. I reloaded and tested it again but this time he had the full inventory. I did double check all his inventory the first time too.

Erothin is HUGE! It's a maze of streets and the merchants so far are spread out all over the city. I've got a quest in the cemetary but so far I haven't found one. I'm still exploring though so no biggie.

I'm searching for the sword on an island near where Porim's boat was located. I see a likely hollow log, but it doesn't seem to be the spot. I did get the perfume bottle off the roof.

Scout, I have 17xx gold - just like RL, I'm a saver & horder. [Image Can Not Be Found] Picked up everything (not anymore) and cleaned out mines.

Saved (literally) and bought a donkey. Nope, can't steer for sh*t using A&S keys & makes me nauseous skimming by vegetation so fast. Same in Oblivion. Reload & alas, I'll stay a foot-traveler.

Loved how the mines & underground areas are designed, so much better than Oblivion there is no comparison. My favorite so far is in the dragger-in-tree questline. Like nothing mundane in Oblivion.

On my way to the Sanctum but got killed in a mine without a recent save. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Could not help myself, installed just....one....(huge 1.7 gb)....mod: QTP3R (a must have for every mod user, Qarl's Texture Pack 3 Redimized). Unfortunately, the river alongside Giliad is shocking pinkpurple, what happens with missing textures. Oh well, I may learn to live w/ purple water for the textures I gained.

I want that donkey! I liked ridiing horses in Oblivion. Once I got used to using the keys it went fine and much faster. I even used to ride horses cross country for fun.

Pokey,  I found the knife on the little island just laying by a tree, I think. It was pretty much out in the open.

I am hot on the trail in A Candidate at the City Guard quest. Just met some uber goblins in the sewers. No way I can take them on. I might have to call it quits. I have all the quest items but was trying to find a nest of Aeternas for training options. The Erothin sewers are bad assssssss.

I switched back to the old interface as I couldn't read the fonton the Nehrim mod. I read that I can use any interface I want as long as I have the correct .bsa file. Any suggestions on were to find a good Oblivion interface mod? I'm no fan of the original interface either. It's more for gamepads than mouse/keyboard. I think I used an interface mod for Oblivion but all that is lost in the dust of time. I did try the Dark Oblivion interface mod once and didn't like it much.

I finally found the dagger in a hollow tree. I'm saving up for a donkey.[Image Can Not Be Found]

Yapette, did you find a way to cure rabies? I tried the chapels, but no luck.

Edit---I just found out the mandrake root will cure disease. I picked up some near Baldur Bridge, where the diseased deer were.

Ran into a funny bug. I was chasing a thief  in Erothin when I ran into those uber goblins I mentioned in my last post. I decided to let the thief go and left. After about a minute I would get a nag screen that told me I had lost the thief. When I clicked on it it would dump back in the load screen. So I was basically at a dead end unless I reloaded an hour before and ditched the whole quest. I had to enable god mode to kill the goblins and then unenable it. That did the trick. Not sure if the devs did that on purpose or if it was a bug. I can't remember if that was happening earlier in the quest or not.

I found cheap mandrake root at the Mage's Cave in Erothin too. It cured the rabies and swamp fever I have had for the last day.

I bought a donkey in Giliad and he is very convenient. I wonder if he may wander away as the horse did in Oblivion. The spider cave in Giliad has some very nice loot. I rode back south to the bridge looking for more mandrake root and the gang that was trying to get gold for passage were all dead and they had some good loot. Time to head to the Arcane Sanctum.

Pokey, thanks everso about Mandrake Root. I cured with my looted, worth 200g potion and I sure don't want to do that again.

Scout, you mentioned switching back to the original interface....what mod did you try? Reason I ask, tonight I'm going to install some.Want to try expanded menus & a mini-map. And removing the "how many" menu everytime multiples are sold.

Funny how we three are playing such different paths. I haven't been anywhere Scout has except Giliad which I didn't really explore, and now Pokey will doing what he did. Instead I looked for clues about the dagger but as the trail heads for 14-24 lvl land, I'm going off to the Sanctum instead.

What a treat this game is! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Everyone be sure to stop in at the Mage Cave when you get to Erothin. 2nd or 3rd door on the left from the gate. Cheap Mandrake root.

I cleared out my first big dungeon, Gargoth Cave, between Castle Stonefield and Ledur. Good loot. Tracked down some more info on the Roots quest and finished up a Main Quest quest with Melvin and the Stone Golems. That was interesting. Lots of running and healing. Melvin teleported back to the Arcane Sanctum and left me in the forest to walk out. Bastard!

Also 2 Mandrake roots on the side of the trail just north of Castle Stontefield.

Yapette, I went back to the Nehrim interface for now. Couldn't take the default Oblivion interface.

Nehrim interface? Oblivion interface? I'm just taking what comes up. How did you swap? And how can you tell which is which?

Thanks about Mandrake roots. And Mage Cave. I printed out a 2 pg x 2 pg map to mark nameplaces. Especially those I will return to when stronger.

I am in Ledur following the my roots quest. I went north from Castle Stonefield and am standing on the quest marker and nothing. It is pitch dark and I am in a 14-24 area. I want to finish the quest and get out of here quick!

Thanks for the tip on the mandrake root near here.

Keep looking, Pokey. It's confusing but the marker is just a general place holder. Just roam around a bit. There is a way down that leads further.

I renamed the NehrimDataOblivion-Misc.bsa, which is in the NehrimData folder, and then copy and pasted OblivionDataOblivion-Misc.bsa from the OblivionData folder into the NehrimData.

The Oblivion folder is dated from 2006 or so and the Nehrim is early 2010.

I wandered in the dark and had a vision of an entrance. I deduced it led to a place I wasn't ready to tackle. I reloaded at the castle and headed back to Giliad. I did notice the cave north of the castle but didn't see any mandrake root. I'll head back there when I am stronger. Maybe go on to Arcane Sanctum for more experience.

I am really enjoying this. Thanks Yapette. [Image Can Not Be Found]

This game is going to get soooo depressing. You'll know what I mean Pokey soon enough. I felt like I was in a German Expressionism Painting (like Kay's avatar by Munch). [Image Can Not Be Found]

Pokey, I couldn't find the trap door either, wondering whether I should reload & replay my dream. Needed to get my bearings better, hadn't paid that much attention first time. Instead try what I did, wait till daylight, stand upstairs (like you did in the dream) in the only 2 story house…look around.

Scout, for someone who doesn't do mods, I'm impressed. Whatever made you try that? My minimap is working – hurrah! Since I check my map about every 20 feet this mod is a godsend.

I wandered the Sanctum checking everyone's spells for sale. Can't decide how to spec, what spells to use. Limited training pts. & $ mean I better know what direction I'm going before I spend another pt/cent. Unless I decided to play like Scout. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Just remembered my latest questions: how do we know when we're ready to train level II spells? Happened to notice a quick message on my screen saying I quality for ~something~ II (was healing self)...what if I miss a message? And what are these magic runes we are discovering?

Oh dear. Guess I'll be prepared then. I think the cave just north of the castle may connect to the trapdoor at Ledur. I thought if I'm going to have to fight my way through that, I need to be a higher level. Let me know how it goes.

I found several more mandrake roots. There are two on the north side of the waterfall outside Giliad and I found two just past the Aetern Camp on the way to Arcane Sanctum. I wonder where the key is for the desolate house on that road.

I tried to buy spells at the Arcane Sanctum. I did get the light spell and teleport to Giliad. But when I bought either the flash heal or fireball, I paid but didn't get anything. I know one of them was level 1 and the other had no restrictions.

No, no, no. The tunnels under Ledur are cake. All I'm gonna say. Just watch where the robed guys in the vision go, i.e. watch for the well and track them from there. Find the tunnel entrance.

That's good to know. I thought at that level, I wouldn't last long. Something that looked like a black panther killed me real quick just north of the castle. I'll head back there after I finish at Arcane Sanctum.
