Well, i just used the 1.2.0416 over the 1.2 patch. Everything looked fine until I selected start new game—then nothing. It won't start. It seems like you should use the later smaller patch on top of the Oblivion patch. Maybe I should uninstall Oblivion and use just the later patch.
Later—that didn't work. I get an error message and it doesn't update.
Working now. I needed both patches and then checked the data files as requested.

I've been trudging through the dark mine. Why do they give just one torch and that is lost when you fight the first troll? Not much trouble finding my way and got past the unkillable troll, dying just once. Finally got to an open wooden platform on the water. There is another troll there and he keeps killing me. I have my difficulty set at 15.
I got the potion off the roof with a shot from an arrow, btw. Then shot a couple of crabs for good measure. Nice thing is you can retrieve your arrows.
I went up to the monastery and took the quest down to the shrine. That was interesting… [Image Can Not Be Found]
Back at the monastery and am trying to find the main monk who is supposed to set me up with a room and some gear. I don't see her anywhere and have no quest marker for her either.
The woods seem pretty safe if you stick to the paths and don't wander.
This game is more like Gothic than Gothic 4. It is funny to see the bits and peices of Oblivion in it.
EDIT: Found the head mage and got set up. I chose Battlemage...what I usually choose. This is getting better and better. The atmosphere is much more vivid than Oblivion's ever was. It's more R rated, less generic. Thanks for the "invite" Yapette.

Whaccccckkkkk, whatever are you doing? Main monk? Shrine? Battlemage? Am I playing the same game? [Image Can Not Be Found]
Now Yap, calm down…back up. "Up to the monastery & took the quest down to the shrine." Huh? Has it been so many days ago I have forgotten already? Do I have Alzheimer's?
Head Mage is old guy w/ long beard forever reading in his room? I talked to him upon arrival before taking the quest for jittery monk rather than the better one clearing the mine afterwhich he'd train me. But I got nuthin' for helping the paranoid monk.
I loathe the spiders. And a rabid deer infected me with stat hits but refuse to use my 200g cure disease potion (found, not bought).
Finally found a place I can cook. Each cooked item shows +1 EP as I make it. Anyone care to guess what that means? Upon eating? Permanent boost? To what?
Now, has anyone mined yet?
Made potions? And if so, where the heck did you?
I want to make potions & mine (maybe forge ingots), not going to train hunting at all.
I'm going to pay blacksmiths to repair me, learning points are too dear. So far I've trained Light Armor, Blades & Restoration. Primarily to keep me alive longer (armor more effective, heal self better).
Glad you're enjoying the game…now.
P.S. Think I'm buying an Ass. Er, a donkey. If the thing has saddle bags, it's a done deal.
P.P.S. I read this group made two total conversions for Morrowind: Arktwend and Myar Aranath.
You're still in Tirin Abbey, I think.
I'm talking about the big monastery, Arcam Sanctum. You go north out of Tirin Abbey to Giliad, then cut back souteast. It's a big mage compound with mages, battlemages, etc. Poke around and you'll get offered a job.
I'm stuck on my first mission, going out and getting another "gifted one" like me. Used one key to get into Fort Sildren but now I apparently need MORE keys…the dreaded key hunt. To RPGs what pixel hunts are to adventure games. Now I'm annoyed again. [Image Can Not Be Found]
I've spent a few learning points, a couple on armoring cause I like to repair mine own armor. I'm cheap.
A few points on blade and am waiting to see what else. Battlemage gets you a crazy strong self healing spell except I forgot to by the gem that will activate it….

I'm still stuck ankle deep in rats. I found the three bricks but can't see anyplace to put them. Certainly no messages showed up anyplace I tried. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Look for low lying places with bright yellow straw. They are tucked away a bit. I just sort of kicked them in. If it's the right stone for the right hole it will pop right in. Read the names of the holes and the rocks carefully.
Finally got out of Fort Sildren and am on the second quest for another "gifted one". I thought I saw an Arcane Stone for sale somewhere but now of course since I want to buy one I can't find the merchant. Not at the Arcane Sanctum or any of the villages. Wonder if it was one of those wandring merchants.

Finally found ore to mine. Pick broke after third hit. Advice: do NOT sell extra picks. I, of course, had. [Image Can Not Be Found]
I'm following the quest thread about broken dagger in tree. Been to Stone-something & the castle, now going to village of L-something further north. Scout, you must be higher than me. Maybe I'm almost lvl 6? Not leaving 1-7 lvl zone if I can help it. Although I just finished killing mighty mean ogres & drinking all my health pots. Need to learn alchemy asap!
Scout, FYI: arcane stone on crate in cabin (unlocked) next to stream near Q or is that G-town. I need an annotated out-of-game map.
Question: a sword I charged is now 0 charges. Anyone know how to recharge items? Soul Stones? Souls I can't seem to catch (yes, I have some empty shards). So far I simply enchant another weapon.
Lastly, I know now why I'm having a hard time. My race is the Pointy-Ears, humans don't seem to like us. When I entered a store & the merchant looked just like me (first I've seen), it warmed my heart.
I'm at level 5. I don't think the level labels mean a whole lot. I've been spending most of my time in the 7-14 level area with no real problems. I haven't wandered into the woods though. Stick to the paths. I saw merchants at Arcane Sanctum that charge weapons for a fee.
I have mined a little bit but haven't gone underground as I'm kinda avoiding mines right now.
I'll keep an eye out near L or G town...maybe Giliad? I saw one in someone's inventory, I swear. Can't find them now of course.
Also I teleported once using a spell and a rune and the rune got used up. WT? I have to buy runes?
I'm a female of the WASP equivalent race so mostly all the racists confide in me.
If you want to do alchemy and charge stone and other things magical hike on up to Arcane Sanctum. It's magic central. Really. It's fine if you stick to the paths. You'll have a couple of fights but nothing really hard. I'm playing on 20 difficulty.

Ok, I'll go, I'll go to the Sanctum. You convinced me. Now, where is it? [Image Can Not Be Found]
I lied about needing a map. Actually, I found one, in German, *with* all mines & impt. spots marked, *without* any place names. German for regions & mts, not cites & villages & mines. Helps hugely as I have been emptying all mines.
Googling filename nehrim.map.jpg might find it.
Yes, town is Giliad, north from Abby. Now I'm due west from there at Stone-something, heading north again. If you remember from Oblivion days, highlighting a quest in your log *might* show a destination marker on your world map. Maybe. (which I suppose I could do to find Arcane Sanctum!).
Once again, I'm experiencing total hatred for TAB to bring up menus. What a painfully protracted process to check any little thing.
Ended up at Erothin last night and called it quits as the front gate was locked and I was too tired to figure it out. I recognized this city from Oblivion where you first emerge from the tunnels across the lake. I believe it the same place, just slightly changed. I saw an elf get a beat down at the gate. Ouch.
Well, the Arcane stone can be bought from Brother Patrick in Giliad but it gets used up just like the teleport rune. So, no insta-heal yet for me. It was for the Laying On Of Hands spell I got for becoming a battle mage at the Sanctum. I noticed it only works once a day anyway.
Travel in this game is limited. Teleporting is expensive and fast travel, other than one instance, seems to be turned off. Which mean a donkey or a horse will actually become a necessity. I am really wanting one of those donkeys.
Also there is tons of stealable loot at the Sanctum. I don't know if it can be lifted without consequences or if the guards can see through stone walls but I'll soon find out. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Pokey, you have two chests: one at end of your bed & another generic/in-every town outside near the inn door.
Donkey, for sure. Hoping they steer well.
I've been careful about stealing (red hand icon) but managed to acquire two items. Decided to dump outdoors as I don't want to alert (piss off) guards or merchants.
Don't you-all wish there were some instructions somewhere? Like about arcane stones, using up runes after a single teleport, etc. I prefer to plan out my future, pace what I plan to do. Strongly dislike features that can only be learned via hit or miss, or even worse via random chance.
I got caught a couple of times stealing because I wasn't paying attention once and once I accidently took something in a tavern and was to lazy to reload. I paid small fines both times but I'm getting snubbed by some of the finer citizens for my felonious ways.
I guess this mod has been out for a few months now and no instructions, no manual and no walkthrough. It kinda fits my style of playing which is the opposite of yours Yapette. Mostly I jab at a hornets nest with a stick just to see what happens. It can get annoying though, like trying to figure out how to leave Fort Sildren. (If anyone gets stuck on that quest, let me know. I finally figured out how to get out.)
I didn't take the goblin cave quest but I might see if I can get into that cave anyway. I went with Duras and it was sort of funny and sort of lame.
Also, can someone remind me how to swim in this game? I can swim underwater but haven't been able to swim on the surface. Hopefully it's not because of my armor but it wouldn't surprise me.

Swimming (unless drowning due to heavy armor): underwater, mouse look the camera UP toward the surface & W your way in that direction. To stay on top like across a river I keep on looking UP, UP, UP & since I can't fly, I stay on the surface. At least that's what I've been doing wearing a pitiful armor+3 raggedy gray robe.
Also, munching crabmeat (raw or cooked) gives you breathing. Or it's supposed to but after *not* eating, I saw my breath was held anyway?!? Random Chance Learning = [Image Can Not Be Found] (be grateful it's your learning style)
Mod was released this summer…in German. There must be info online but damned if I can find any, even in German. Oh! Just realized (duh), of course my googling in English won't bring up the German. [Image Can Not Be Found]
