Wait 'til you meet the Roaming Gnome. He's very... fey. In conversations, he can and will put the party to sleep with his long-winded conversations. It's quite hilarious. But his songs have much improved our combat.

WTF?  We go back to check Q's inventory at the inn cuz GG doesn't have a single spell we need for the trees (some spells sound familiar, maybe had scrolls & sold them. I HATE multi- inventory fiddling). In order to check her inventory, we must form a party & exit the inn. Where we are instantly confronted by a named NPC + twelve f'n student mages? My party of four were dead in seconds. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Anyway, my mind is really with Walgast holding a semi-conscious 6-yr-old Amy as he climbs up the ventilation shaft to find who. knows. what. Audio version of The Passage by Justin Cronin. Scccaaareeee~~~~~

Sorry NWN2, you must adjust to being second fiddle at the moment.

I just heard about The Passage. I'm planning to drop a sample to my iPhone and check it out. If I like it, it will be allowed residence on my new Kindle (when it ships at the end of the month).

Yes, that fight with the dozen or so Academy students plus the instructor took me by surprise. We survived the fight; although Snotty Q's health bar was close to non-existant. Q did most of the damage with some help from Petco, so the fight wasn't very long.

Just a short play last night: we went into the hills heading towards the Bonegnasher lair. Lots of orcs and a few trolls. Came upon a bunch of orcs waiting for one of their own; he came running back chased by a troll. The orcs freaked out and started running. Troll took out all the orcs (6 or so) and we were left with the troll. Snotty Q is a beast in battle. I tried talking my way into the lair, but apparently orcs are much smarter than people give them credit. The orc knew I'd left a trail of carnage to get to that point so he wasn't having any of what I was serving up. I now have to fight my way through the entire lair. feh

Curious things happen when reloading: I made the mistake of not resting after a number of battles so everyone had depleted their day's supply of spells. The battle was seriously taking forever, so I reloaded in order to rest before moving on. Upon reload, I see two orcs that were originally dead when I first came into the room standing around. We walked right by them and they ignored us. Got to a second room where another previously dead orc was suddenly alive and well. As I stood there confused, they dropped to the ground and were suddenly classified as dead. Same with the previous two in the first room. WTF?

We're fighting the Eyegouger Clan now – a three level cave of orcs. But that's ok, the game is fun again. Tried but didn't like dm_gm with the yellow floor patches. Instead I now wield The Destructificator.*  Between Qara's spells, my sword & whatever the rest can muster, it doesn't matter if we are mobbed and fights are over before anyone dies.

We're at the same place, only I got my ass handed to me on the first floor of the Eyegouger clan. Too many damned orcs mobbing us. I was just coming to whine about it.

Can anyone use the Destructificator? *hopeful* I shall have to pursue an investigation of said weapon.

Bless you! The game is once again fun!

Karma is dual wielding the Mercykiller (flaming rapier) and Sly-something (long sword with all kinds of ugly things). I may swap out the rapier for something more acidic or icy. We all know I adore acid and/or ice.

Finished up Eyegouger and that stupid Captain has sent us to the Docks again! I think I'll head to the Temple of the Betrayers... I'm feeling particularly powerful at the moment. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Heh. So glad you like it. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Just for fun & in the interests of scientific experimentation, you might try code: instodeath

At first I thought it was a weapon but rather it's a grab bag of dropdown options. Haven't used it myself but apparently it's been AI triggered as a couple of times a HUGE ELEMENTAL joined our party. So far I don't need the uber-options, but I'm keeping the code as I love having Mr. E pop in unexpectedly.

A game is what one makes of it, right? At least mine are. [Image Can Not Be Found]

You're still ahead of me as when I posted my party was parked just inside the door of the cave. Comes a point (usually about the 2.5 hr mark) when I cannot, will not, click forward into yet another battle.

To be honest, right after I posted I went to bed as I could hardly keep my eyes open by then.

If you have Petco with you, you'll find some "help" on the first level of Eyegouger. I didn't need her as Karma's a ranger and can impersonate Dr Doolittle, too. The help only lasted as long as the first level and they sometimes got in the way, but I didn't care. (The AI pathfinding is pants.) When I head down into the Temple, I'm considering dragging GG along as I'm tired of triggering traps and destroying things in chests. Granted, I'm pretty sure the damaged stuff isn't worth much, but it kills me to have to bash things. I've got enough lockpick skill to open doors but most chests are too complicated for my limited skill set. I figure with myself and stick-up-his-butt Caviar the Paladin drawing aggro, I should be able to keep GG alive... ish. On the other hand, I'll miss Roaming Gnome's song buffs.

Did you by chance have Roaming Gnome with you in Bonegnasher? There's a hliarous scene with him explaining, ad nauseum, how a found device works. The camera's close on him, but you can see the rest of the party in the background... stretching, sliding into sleep. It's quite entertaining!

Gno Gnome. He's going to be in the inn, permanently.

As I'm a fighter with decent AC, I walk into traps & tho it hurts me to destroy contents, bash away. So far traps don't damage very much (!?), at least not enough to drag GG along.

Mr P(aladin) is going to become permanent - I love having a do-goodie two-shoes in the party. So over the top: handsome, noble, strong & caring. Never could play one myself so he's a keeper.

Then Qara with the smarty-pants mouth, she's also pretty much permanent due to her spell power.

That leaves one slot open for now - probably rotate Shorty D & Petco.

In order to make it through NWN2 I must simplify fiddly-bits. Loathe crafting, so that's out. Loathe inventory management, so sell most everything. Otherwise I'll be stuck in Act 1 deciding what to keep, no room to store & finally quit. My aim is to keep moving...moving....before I get paralyzed with decisions.

I hear tell we're eventually able to get a place to call home.

Is the syntax for loading the Hulking Elemental just: DebugMode 1 > instodeath ? If so, I may invoke it.

Finished up the Temple and it was a snap with Caviar, Snotty Q and GG. (There's one specific room down that with a tantalizing chest behind a barred gate. Messing with the game causes pain in the form of two temple guardians. We took them down, GG unlocked the gate and then two more materialize. We could have taken them, but I was escorting a monk out by then and he was almost dead. Didn't really want to kill my charge... I suppose I could have reloaded and taken them on before picking him up, but I'm not even sure I want what's in the chest!)

We then continued the fetch quests for Captain "do this one other thing for me" and intercepted some more Luskans down by the warehouse only to be literally over-run with all manner of things. I'd like to snap the neck of the dev who thought mobs were loads of fun. There's no strategy in mobs (especially in confined spaces), it's just blindly swinging and hoping for the best! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Even with the better weapons, I'm not sure how much more of this I'll endure. I need a mod like the Cow Stampede in the original NWN. Now that was a cheat!

I saved just before going into the Temple and 3 ft. in did a reload. Too much real estate to clear. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Have you given the Uber D-weap to a fighter? That should almost be one-strike kills.

On GameFaq in the item code faq, way at the bottom are codes for three dev weapons.

Highlight a party member

DebugMode 1

giveitem [item tag] #

So: giveitem instodeath 1

You will get a red ? inventory item which you can put on the hotkey bar, rt click & use, get drop down of stuff.

Third item (Enchanted Papyrus Blade) I haven't yet tried: giveitem roll20s 1

Yes, we are all blindly swing + in my game, lots of fire & lightening. Maybe from instodeath? I haven't done anything beyond adding 2 codes for my main.

Are you wearing the stupidest goofy hat? I have the Outback one w/ feather stuck in rolled up side. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Have you talked with the scholar in Blacklake? What is his accent? Slightly NY, but not majorly thick. Is that some Jersey? Philly? It's been decades since I lived in the East so my ear hears variations but can't match locations.

I love having so many voice actors – if only Oblivion had done likewise.

I hope you don't give up. [Image Can Not Be Found] You are on Easy? How about 20 in all stats? irolltwenties That will be my last effort before giving up.

I've not gotten to Blacklake yet as we need to finish off the Luskans near the previously-cleared warehouse before Captain Why-do-my-own-dirty-work-when-I-can-find-some-unsuspecting-rube-to-do-it-for-me will give us clearance to enter.

So far, I've only given my main anything from the special menu. I'll have to check Caviar's stats and make sure he can deal with a sword as right now he's got his original hammer and it's served him well. Mayhaps he needs a bit of a boost.

I haven't given up just yet, but after getting over-run in that house, I was definitely frustrated and annoyed. I think I'll swap out GG for Petco, invoke something special for Caviar and try again. And yep, I'm on Easy.

*edit and several hours later:

The Destructificator is freakin' awesome! I'm not sure why I didn't invoke that one to start, but now the game is fun once again! (I think I was trying to be "noble" and try to get through with the least amount of cheat available. Whatever. I think I'm over that, now. For good.)

Took out the githyanki (who makes up these names?) near the warehouse and FINALLY got into Blacklake. Talked to Algernon; laid waste to the Archives and was back at the Flagon when all hell broke loose. Githyanki abducted Shandra and we've given chase. Have you seen/spoken to the guy in the Flagon that just sort of hangs around? When you talk to him he says something nasty? Well, he's (Bishop, asshole ranger) in my party now. I think he's got fox burrs jammed in his small clothes based on his constant bad mood. We're stopped just outside the githyanki cave.

Githyanki?

Ok, maybe Toger & I have associations that you (Jarrod) do not. She's originally from Philadelphia, I was raised just outside New York City. For me, and maybe her, the Yankees are the baseball team. So Githyanki sounds like…I don't know what, but not a race of green creatures. More like lisping pig-latin riff on Yankees the team. (you know I'm j/k)

Chapter 2 & I'm not leaving the inn except to shop. What a piss-pitiful party:

1. Sharon with NO armor, pitiful starter sword & squat else.

.5 & .5 Two animals of some kind.

3. Mr. Wizard wearing nothing, wielding nothing, and to top it all off – two levels behind us.

4. Shorty D who at least has what I've been giving him.

5 & 6. Qara and me.

This group hasn't a chance.

We are supposed to start off with *two* weak links?!?!? (and I don't mean those pitiful animal either) What are we supposed to do with Sharon-Sue? And how will Mr. Wizard (Sand, he does at least have a short, easy name which I will heretofore begin to use) stay alive, huh?

Edit: to report I never did the Temple as when we reached the Githyanki area with no exit, I hadn't saved since forever. Tried to reload but there wasn't anything except back pre-Archives. No f'n way, touch sh*t, no Temple exp & the priest stays unrescued. Also, I'm not really caring about helping Shorty D become a monk. He's too good w/ equipment to start from scratch in cloth & bare hands.

Sand is actually pretty good at slinging spells. I don't remember where we were, but he and Q are as good as Q & Petco.

I've got Shandra kitted out with armour and a greatsword that I'd been dragging around with me since forever. I think I originally hung on to that stuff for Caviar, but it works better for her. Shandra is a decent fighter. Since she's stuck to me like glue, I use her instead of Shorty D or Caviar as my tank. That way, I've got slots for two spell-casters (usually Q and Petco) with one slot left for whoever I need (or am forced to take) to complete a quest.

Last night, we released some imprisoned imps (leaving Blacklake, I could hear the imps chasing people with all manner of screaming [Image Can Not Be Found]), destroyed a "coven" of stupid girls/boys who'd been fooled into joining the Shadow, stole a boat-load of crap from a collector, impersonated an arms dealer, had Shandra's picture painted, became a squire (slave) to some simpering knight, have been accused of killing off an entire village… I think that's it (whew! I'm tired.).

Somewhere along the way, I found some really nice armour for GG. It's specificially targeted for rogues and since putting one point in CON, she's survived every encounter thrown at us.

While in the Gith (hmm, seems Bioware/Obsidian are reusing names) cave did you take the metal golem? I told Bishop that we'd come back for it; however, when we did so there was no option to add it to my inventory and now that area is completely gone from my map. Even after the confinement to Neverwinter was lifted. Drat, I wanted a construct!

*edit: Oh! Almost forgot: that woman with the star tattoo over her eye has created some sort of Q doppelganger. This does not bode well.

A little perusal of a walkthrough and it seems I haven't yet lost my chance for my own personal golem. Seems the trigger for the quest is yet to come.

If only I didn't have this thing called "work" to deal with on a daily basis.[Image Can Not Be Found]

I spent prolly two g-damned hrs. this afternoon attempting to sort out inventories! Who decided it would be neat that someone must be in your party & you must exit the inn before you can look at inventories. Everyone's bags are bursting & in need of a purge, many need equipment that's in someone else's bag (who usually isn't in the party at that moment).

Finally used a code to summon a llittle guy who can handle selling, party swapping, and I didn't pay attention to what else. From now on,  that's what we'll do. No more running back & forth to the inn, to the merchant, back to the inn....

For me, and maybe her, the Yankees are the baseball team.

Oooh, I see... so I guess that'd be like Githfooty or Githcricket for me.  When I come across things like this, I try to pronounce them differently - so I'd make it something like Gith-yah-nki (like the "a" in "what" instead of "that")...  Does that help?

@ Jarrod, exactly - Githcrickets. Sounds dumb, yes?

Your suggestion might have worked except in this game, unlike many others, a lot of the dialog is voice-acted via cutscenes. Npcs have talked *out loud* about the Githyankees. Otherwise, no tellin' how I might have mentally mis-pronounced the name given my name-mashing proclivities.

Tonight I advanced very little, overcome by micro-management. Equipping a party just wears. me. down. Dunno what happened but seems my favorites have 3 or more empty armor slots. Can't find things I want to buy. And under noooo circumstances will I craft + enchant. My head would 'splode. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I need to remember not to play right up to bedtime. I spend way too long trying to decompress after the excitement of combat, finding things, storylines possibly making sense.

Sand polymorphs into a lesser demon (I'm making an assumption as I didn't check to see exactly what it was) with wings! You cannot disparage someone who does that. [Image Can Not Be Found]

We spent last night in Port Llast and its environs gathering clues/evidence of my innocence of the Ember massacre. Met some goblins with a spider problem (ewww). Took care of it and we became friends until I had to steal their glowing something or other in order to get some help from a snotty dryad. Needless to say, I didn't take on the entire tribe as I snuck out the "back door" of the cave. There is no dishonor in running. I've formed an unlikely alliance. We didn't shake on it, but it definitely creeped me the hell out when my new ally scuttled away. Magic 8-ball says we'll meet again. (Bring Petco if you're not a druid or ranger)

Met two little female gnomes hoping to tempt Gnomehands into staying with them. um... no.

I was put on trial for Ember and things went well. Of course, the appeal process is by combat. We'll tackle that later this week.

I forgot to mention, somewhere in my travels I picked up a glowing ball that houses a fire elemental! I haven't used it yet, but I wonder if that's the elemental you found with the cheat?

Word to the wise: Magic fizzles like a wet candle wick while in Duskwood Grove. You'll hear the tinkling bell (I have yet to figure out who's doing that just before casting which spell), the incantation and then... nothing. It's just as well I've got the destructificator or we'd be smears in the dirt.

Speaking of Sand….how in hell do you get him to cast? Far as my Sand goes, it looks like he stands around giving opinions & that's it.

Being a fighter, my spell knowledge is zip. Opened Sand's B, saw spells known & memorized, filled in blanks. Quick cast F bar remains a total mystery, haven't yet been able to add anything to it.

Like…[Image Can Not Be Found]…he can cast each spell-in-a-sq. once per "day" (rest) so if I like a spell, it can be put in his memorized bar more than once, right?

Currently there's nothing in his quickbar (for me to click) cuz he's on auto. I did check his behavior tab & looks ok to me.

Couldn't sleep last night so I'm up to door down in well – thanks for info on bringing Petco, is that where I need her?

I sold the elemental ball after dragging it around forever! Thought it was one use only & besides, in combat there isn't time to clickity-click anything past targeting a foe. You *do not* have to remind me there is spacebar/pause. [Image Can Not Be Found] Maybe I'll see if I can buy it back. Or via code if you report that it's fantastic. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Playing combat games till bedtime gives me half-conscious game-dreams. Try to stop early, doesn't always happen. Two nights ago I dreamed I found an item that allowed resetting points, skills & abilities. I remember thinking yay! now I can take back those misspent pts. in crafting & level something useful. Next day I thought, ???

Edit: after rereading your post...tinkling sound? incantation? I'm playing on my new windows 7 install, nothing but NWN2 & Firefox on the drive. Not even software for my onboard sound. Realized last night that I hear one person's speech & anything else going on is not coming out my 5.1 speakers (I bet default is 2.1). Must be missing a bunch (speech text scrolls by in chat window but usually don't stop to read it). Think it's time to find the software & config my speakers.
