I need some community help on a financial matter.
3 coats (Painting 15'x17' room) + Hourly Potty Trips Outside (Recently Acquired Rescue Dog) = X Gaming $
Where X = ?
Since buying this house in '98, over twelve years I have managed to paint every surface at least once, both inside & out, by myself. Swore I was never painting again – we were hiring out! Today I started repainting the bedroom, my computer room next.
How many (guilt free, no strings attached) gaming $$ would you pay yourself? In my case, time/hours spent are not an issue as I'm a stay-at-home over-educated bum.
Oh, how I hate painting, and I'm good at it. It would be pure torture if I weren't. In your case, I'd say:
$$$ that would have gone to painter - $$ of supplies and incidentals (eating out because house is a mess) for DIY = saved $$$ to go toward gaming.
Exa: $2500 painter estimate - $600 cost of supplies and meals = $1900 for gaming. [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]
Just tell yourself you're worth every penny, pat yourself on the back, and go shoppin'!

Thank you all!
Spike, I like your estimate, roughly equivalent to a pre-built highish gaming machine. Like the painting, I swear I'm not building another computer. Like the painting, I may eat my words.
Scout, two additions (2nd bathroom & large family room) at the Lake House were built by a crew but left unpainted. One guess who killzed & painted the sheetrock walls & bare plastered ceilings. And stuck on more linoleum square flooring. Again, swearing never again.
Toger, I am mindful. These gaming $$ are guiltfree with no strings attached. For example, buying games I might never play (Tropico 3 on steam) and/or strategy guides (Mass Effect 2) I don't really need. Heaven forbid I should limit myself on normal gaming necessities – those expenditures are a given. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Me and my girlfriend have vowed to get ourselves new rigs after refurbishing the house and they too will be guiltfree purchases so I totally understand your position Yap. In other words: buy, buy buy! Buy for the love of all that is good and true!
Alas, it is only in the last few years that I've realised time is the new money. What I would do to be rich again.
