It's obvious that bad writing pops up all the time on the entertainment beast that is Metacritic, but sometimes the blurbs are just so poorly written ... how do they exclude reviews from a great place like Tap-Repeatedly based solely on the reason that they're written infrequently here.
Remember the tortoise and the hare? Who won that shit? Yeah, the fuckin' tortoise.
I thought this quote (from site GamerNode, reviewing the game Bastion) was noteworthy:
"The best kind of games got unity, got cohesion, and this game, well, it ain't got it. That don't mean it's not the best kind though. I wouldn't of known it to look at the runt, but hell, it is." [emphasis is mine]
Bad grammar overload! Aieeeeeeeeeee!
Pfft. We don't need Metacritic. Metacritic needs us.

"Hilbilly," I believe, is the official name of the tongue.
I never had any personal feelings for or against Metacritic until after they delisted us... and explained why. Back then we were still called Four Fat Chicks. Yes, our quantity of reviews had dropped, so he hid behind that when Old Rooster asked him, but in the end it turned out to be my Grand Theft Auto IV review that was the culprit. In so many words, he accused us of intentionally scoring the game badly to drive traffic, and went on to posit that an "adventure game site" shouldn't be reviewing it anyway. When Old Rooster pointed out that we hadn't been an adventure game site in at least five years, and then produced me, my professional credentials, and the text of my review to back up his argument, Marc said the reason was our rate of publication.
When MrLipid and I took over here I never bothered to re-approach Marc about getting us back on Metacritic. It's a waste of time. I know other sites have tried the "quality should beat quantity" approach and gotten nowhere, and I'm unwilling to do what some other sites are doing - publish a million scored, one-paragraph reviews every week just to reach some indecipherable, subjective quota.
So now I dislike Metacritic, but only in a remote sort of way. I feel it's their loss; in fact, there are a lot of things missing out on Tap and it's their loss. We can't bring the mountain to Mohammed, but here it is if you want it. It's a mountain. Not goin' anywhere.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
It's a mountain. Not goin' anywhere.
Technically sir, it's a silo. I can confirm on the 'not goin' anywhere' part. Consultations on changing orientation to tunnel and location to under the Parisian clubbing/body art/masseuse district were non-starters. Just to keep things straight for the new Moses people what with 2012 approaching.
