I thought I'd hijack this thread to congratulate the American and British football (soccer) fans on their respective clubs' advancement to the second round of the World Cup.
So…congratulations!
I have no true allegiances, I just enjoy watching some of the games. My girlfriend is half-Dutch, so I just kind of politely nod my head in admiration of their successes, lest I suffer some hideous wrath.
Though it's not looking very positive for Australia; sorry, Jarrod.
[edit: hmm, I think those fireworks broke this thread; some of my pretty words are cut off. dammit!]

I'd long forgotten about this post. But checking in to read the new post reminds me: we here in Memphis don't get any fireworks this year. We usually get 2 displays - one downtown and one in the east suburbs. This year everybody is broke and no corporate sponsorships are coming forth for the 4th.
So, having brought the thread back to its beginning, I'll just say that I have never been able to get the hang of soccer (er, football). I'm a baseball fan myself, but congrats to all the winners, and may the team with the least offensive fans (and horns) win.
