Looks like someone at Google Maps is having a little fun with the locals. Here's the story.
The Columbia Gorge is one of the few places is the world where a major river cuts directlly through a major mountain chain. Note the use of the word through. The result is a majestic area with high cliffs, snowtopped mountains and a wide river slicing right through it. It creates a wind tunnel effect at Hood River and thus has become a world class wind surfing center. Hood River is about an hour directly east of Portland on the Oregon side. Across the river on the Washington side are is a small mill town called Bingen. Just east of Bingen is a great peice of road that winds in a gentle switch back out up from the river to the top of the gorge walls. It's called Courtney Road and once was a gravel road and it's been paved. Here is a normal view from the road:
On maps this has always been labled as Courtney Road and is a semi-famous road to shoot car commericals on. Several months ago I was looking it up on Google Maps and saw that someone had been having some fun with the road name. Take a look for yourself. This has been up on Google maps now for at least 4 months.
Yes, the damn Cobain/Love family…. click on the little mouse icon in the upper right corner of the map to enlarge it a bit.
