This weeks sales chart is in from GFK and it’s not surprising to see Crysis 2 head to the top spot. I’m still getting over Homefront actually achieving number one last week (people really must be desperate to spend their money). Anyway, EA can be proud that Crysis 2 enjoyed a bigger opening weekend than Bulletstorm and Dragon Age II, two of 2011’s big hitters. It’s also good news for Crytek and PC development, especially when you …
At this years EVE Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland, CCP in their keynote speech have once again shared their ‘future vision’ of EVE. It’s impressive stuff, and the prospect of intertwining planetary combat in a massively multiplayer first person shooter (Dust 514 is CCP’s console shoot-em-up based on the EVE universe) that physically impacts on EVE Online is a bewildering technical feat, but something I still can’t see them pulling off. I’ve put a little information on Dust 514 below, but …
While they won’t be a playable race within Guild Wars 2 (mores the pity) ArenaNet have just updated their official blog with an in depth look at the frog people of Tyria. First seen in Guild Wars: Nightfall and then again in Guild Wars: Eye of the North, its great to see these chaps get padded out. Not only does it look like they’ll play a much bigger part in Guild Wars 2 but it goes to show how much effort …
I’m surprised one of my fellow writers wasn’t on this like a tramp around chips yesterday and yet in the eyes of the internet, I guess it might now be considered old news being only one day old. Still, I’ve just watched it again for the sheer joy of it and I’m sure there are plenty out there who haven’t seen it yet. Voiced by J.K Simmons of Juno fame (amongst many others), Valve really have nailed the …
To brighten your day, I’ve a snippet of news that will cheer up even the grumpiest of grumps. The 1UP Cosplay Gallery from Pax East 2011 has gone live and boy are you in for a treat. I love Cosplay. It’s a niche only we as gamers could possibly begin to understand. I’d never do it myself of course, don’t be ridiculous, but it doesn’t mean I don’t admire those who do it. They’ve got some balls and …
There were raised eyebrows when ArenaNet first cited Team Fortress 2 as a point of reference for elements of Guild Wars 2’s Player versus Player combat. Most individuals naturally felt the influences between the games would be drawn from the core principals of class team work and players knowing their specific duties within their class framework. What has become apparent however over recent days, is that at the heart of Guild Wars 2’s crafting system …
Breaking through a brick wall. That’s what at times it must feel like for ArenaNet when marketing Guild Wars 2. Outside the relative comfort of fan forums such as Guild Wars 2 Guru, there appears to be a direct lack of understanding or opposition to the fundamental changes they are making to the genre. Embracing the changes of adaptive class types and self sufficiency, coupled with the direct removal of a dedicated healer is a …
Review by Lewis B RIFT Developer: Trion Worlds Publisher: Trion Worlds Released: 04th March 2011 Available For: PC Time Played: 50+ hours (and counting) Verdict: 4/5 Thumbs Up! “A well polished and accomplished MMOG that has launched brilliantly. Although there are some minor cosmetic and game issues, it really is a pleasure to play. The class Soul System is a triumph. With fantastic server stability, great instanced dungeons and well balanced player versus player combat, RIFT deserves its good …
On the 24th February RIFT began its ‘head start’ event. With 1 million Trion registered accounts, it was always highly likely as a result of a popular and successful open beta that RIFT was going to experience large numbers of players flooding onto the servers come head start. And sure enough, queue times to enter certain servers were and still are staggering…
As Norn Week over at the Guild Wars 2 official blog rumbles on, ArenaNet have just updated the norn racial page with brand new wallpapers, expanded lore, and a brand new video featuring the Shiverpeaks, hunting grounds of the norn. If you haven’t already seen it, you really should head on over and take a look. The desktop wallpapers are absolutely brilliant (made from concept art) but most importantly, the new footage of Shiverpeaks makes me want to …
Have you ever had such a desire to play a video game that to soak up every column inch of information and to repeatedly tap F5 on the developer’s blog is simply not a good enough fix? That need eventually becomes a permanent itch, where the first thing you do at 6am as the alarm sounds isn’t to say good morning to your partner/girlfriend/lover/cat/other, but is instead to leap onto the computer and check the latest forum posts …
Over at the official EVE Online site, CCP have begun to reveal details relating to the new Captain’s Quarters that players will be able to experience by the summer. The dev-blog describes the Captains Qaurters as: “your place of power, center of your control, operational nucleus, living room and home office. They are the dusty motel room for the vagabond capsuleer. Whether docking your ship to a station or entering EVE for the first …
After Guild Wars 2’s recent Human Week, ArenaNet have announced the second installment to their ongoing series dedicated to detailing the races featured in Guild Wars 2. This coming Monday the official ArenaNet Blog will give players an in-depth introduction to the shape shifting half-giants known as the Norn, and throughout the remainder of the week will provide readers with additional insight from the developers on the lore, the newest art, and a new video! If you haven’t already …
With over 300 hours invested, I’ve lost patience with Team Fortress 2. As a team based, class based shooter, its original focus was that of a competitive but organised multiplayer experience, which required cooperation between you and team mates in order to be successful. The result of its mutations and gradual evolution over many years however, is that Team Fortress 2 is distinctly lacking two key elements: team-work and organisation.
As my second piece of news, also Steam related, SEGA of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd have today announced that Total War: Shogun 2, will be available on Steam on February 22. The press release goes on to state: SEGA and The Creative Assembly are proud to let gamers everywhere know that a demo for Total War: Shogun 2 will soon be available on Steam. The demo will allow all armchair samurai to test their skills …
