Tapper Emeritus Old Rooster was first to announce Alice’s return, and I followed on with a rambling but love-laden panegyric to the underappreciated game. Now we have a trailer, a date, and a rawther minimalist new teaser site. Only two years remain to find out of American McGee still has his mojo, or if blunders like Bad Day L.A. and Grimm are all we can expect from him now.
UPDATE: Aieee. It looks like that trailer is not official – just one made on spec by a fan. Shacknews, which first reported the video, apparently jumped the gun. American McGee clarifies on his blog.
…Of course, since everyone really liked that video, McGee disowning it now makes me worry even more about the direction of the actual Alice 2 project.
That art style looks absolutely astounding. It seems very reminiscent of Jan Svankmajer’s Alice… though I am getting rather annoyed with the relegation of Lewis Carroll to society’s madhouse when I’ve always considered him far more lighthearted than people seem to give him credit for.
*Panegyric* New word, haven’t seen before, & my vocabulary is fairly large. Thanks.
Back on topic, my screensaver is that Cheshire Cat periodically appearing on a black background. Especially unsettling when viewed from a distance: another room, out window -> across atrium -> in window to monitor. Dark room, cat’s evil grinning face pops up out of nowhere. I love it.
Do you suppose this will be a shooter with knives? And alas, jumping? Can’t play the original as I can’t jump worth sh*t. 🙁
If this appears, it is working, and Steerpike is happy.
If it does not, it is not, and Steerpike is sad.
Yapette, I hear you on the platformers. Jumping as gameplay really annoys me for some reason. I like it as a way to find safe attack locations or escape routes but if my progress in the game depends on it then I get really annoyed. I appreciate the purity of the approach and everything, just don’t enjoy it much. Mostly cause I don’t seem to be esp. good at it.
