I bought Gears of War 4 yesterday and it came with download codes for Xbox 360 versions of the other four games (1, 2, 3, Judgment) which I've already played, so if anyone would like copies of any of those games let me know and I'll send you my code(s).
I also received a code for a copy of Guns of Icarus Online a few days ago because they've hit some anniversary milestone, so if anyone is interested in that game let me know too!

I never watched much South Park either Max so I'm well behind the times. When it first started it just seemed so loud, abrasive and crude to my young eyes and ears. I didn't like Beavis and Butthead too, but I was okay with Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life. There's a lot I was a bit too soft for in my youth but I'd happily watch them now.
On a related note: has anyone been watching Rick & Morty? Because damn, that's one of the best animated TV shows I've seen. It's so creative and hilarious. I'd also highly recommend the sublime Over The Garden Wall for Halloween. It's short and sweet and kind of like Alice in Wonderland by way of Studio Ghibli. Bojack Horseman has been good but not quite in the same league for me.
Not sure if anyone else has Extra Life streaming or playing plans...I'll crappily be streaming to twitch at maybe decent quality from the ps4. I'll be bouncing around a lot (ideally) between games such as Titanfall 2, Inside, Mortal Kombat X, Overwatch, Gone Home (which I've never played and have somehow stayed spoiler free about), The Fall (also have not played this), hopefully will get in a nice stretch of Fez, and lastly I'll probably try to finish off the last remaining boss in Dark Souls 3, King of the Storm/The Nameless King.
Check in if you want to see any of that stuff, or just pop in to say hello. I'll have a rough plan schedule on my twitch page, https://www.twitch.tv/xtal84
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
Just finished The Vanishing of Ethan Carter after playing it last summer and forgetting about it, but it's purge time on the ol' 500gb Ps4, which means play it or delete it! So I played it, and I enjoyed it.
Anyone else have thoughts on it? Visually it's a stunner - an immensely pretty world you're dropped into. The thing I enjoyed about it most was the relaxed pace of puzzle solving, and that you can go back anywhere (and it doesn't take too long either) - the whole game is open from the start more or less - which was handy, since I had to leave two puzzles and come back to them later.

I really liked it, and have been meaning to go back to it to check out what's improved in the Redux version. The original looked so incredible it's hard to imagine how much more they could have pumped it up.
It made me think about how a similar story and world layout could be applied to a Deadly Premonition-style open world mystery.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
Thanks for reminding me about The Vanishing of Ethan Carter! That's one I definitely want to play.
I have recently been playing SOMA, Titanfall 2, Overcooked, Helldivers, a bit of Broforce and... well, we played Battlefield 1 for a few hours before getting a refund. Clusterfuck central. Spawn killing, team switching, stacked teams... outlevelled, outnumbered and outgunned we were. Horrible. Titanfall 2 is (wall)running rings round it as far as I'm concerned.
I'm about to start playing a Dominions 4 PBEM game and the manual is 450+ pages long. A good chunk of that is reference tables but fucking hell, that's intimidating. It looks and sounds really interesting though, like turn-based Age of Mythology on crack, so I'm giving it a whirl.
I finished Oxenfree and got the best ending, first time! The stats were heavily against me so I've no idea how I managed it. I enjoyed it, mostly for the dialogue and the way it's delivered. So good.
Started Endless Legend which is the first real 4X game that has clicked with me, as in, I finally get the whole 'Just one more turn...' thing.
Been playing Antihero too which has a very cool trailer and explains the game better than me:
Quick async turn-based multiplayer set in Victorian times with gangs, thugs, urchins, thievery, sneakery and backstabbery. Very simple, but super smart.
Oh! And we started Samorost 3 which is probably the most beautiful game I've ever played. Each screen amazes me, and it's such a musical game too. Just a real treat for the senses:
Hahah, yeah, that's why I usually embed links, images and videos of the games I mention, otherwise it's blank faces at me raving 🙂
It can be annoying though when you're playing lots of great but unusual games that are relatively unknown. Trying to get people to check them out is often an exercise in enthusing into the void.
Just going to have a rant here so excuse the mess.
Last year after playing the Knife of Dunwall DLC for Dishonored I realised that I just don't really like more of the same. I adored Dishonored at the time and was excited to play the DLC too, but when I started it I just realised I was going over the same motions. This in turn meant that I just haven't been that excited about Dishonored 2. Then I wondered what the last sequel was that I played after playing a previous instalment and... it took a while to come up with something. I'm playing Samorost 3 now, sure, but the first two were pretty shit, and super short, and that was 12 years ago, man. Amanita have come a long way since then. Uncharted 2. Mario Kart 8? Titanfall 2 counts but I didn't play the first game and the new one comes with a (great) single-player campaign. Bioshock 2 and the DLC! I mean, look at my games of the year lists. Nearly every entry is a new experience. I haven't even played any of the STALKER sequels, and Shadow of Chernobyl is a favourite of mine. Oh, Metroid Prime Echoes and Corruption. That's my weakness right there: the Metroid series.
So I when I see so many people getting excited over Resident Evil 7 or Deus Ex 2 or Dishonored 2 or Tomb Raider 2 or Assassin's Creed whatever or Halo 5 or Dark Souls 3 or Uncharted 4 or Borderlands 3 or Far Cry 3 or Final Fantasy whatever or Call of Duty or Battlefield or any number of new IPs that fall into existing templates (like The Division or Destiny), it just deflates me. They're more of the same, really, and I'm glad Max said as much about Dark Souls 3 and Uncharted 4 in his list. These are all huge names so they're always going to get more attention but god, I wish people would broaden their horizons a little and get excited about something that isn't so damn familiar. It's the same with movies and TV, I suppose. I'm not saying these games are bad btw, I haven't played most of them so I've no idea, it's just that we always hear about gamers wanting new experiences and innovation and, really, that's bullshit. The number of user reviews I read where people mark a game down because it doesn't neatly fit into their narrow expectations based on the genre heavyweights is often startling. I dunno. This is a nuanced argument and I'm kind of hitting it with a sledgehammer here but it gets my back up. A lot of these games are huge too; mega games that eat hours and hours of your life up. When I say 'You should check out Little Inferno, it's brilliant and only a few hours long. You can even play it on your phone' and I'm met with silence or indifference or worse, 'Will check it out after Derivative Time Hungry Mega Game 5', then never checks it out. The irony is, Little Inferno is all about how you spend your time!
A friend recently played Gone Home after putting it off for... well, too long quite frankly, and he thought it was amazing. I'm trying to get him and a couple of others I know who played -- and loved -- Alien Isolation to play SOMA, which, as far as I'm concerned, is up there with System Shock 2 ie. top of class (I still haven't played the first one yet Botch, but I own the enhanced edition now which I hope to play, more than likely over the reboot that's coming). Instead, they've taken more of an interest in... Resident Evil 7. Yawn.
Anyway, that should do it.
On a lighter note, I picked up Steamworld Heist, Rock Boshers DX and Three Fourths Home (after Max's recommendation) on the Vita for the trip to Florida. Looking forward to checking them out.
