A copy of Papo and Yo has languished in my Steam library forever but hasn't been started. I got it after Xtal mentioned it in one of his game of the year articles. Though it's not a scenario I can readily identify with, the ideas and social message seem to be presented really well. I have to move it up my list.
By the way, I was roaming Steam last night and noticed that The Magic Circle is out -- out out, not just Early Access like all games ever. This is from Jordan Thomas, who led development of Bioshock 2. Before that job he was best known as a contract level designer who created what Kieron Gillen called "the most terrifying two hours in gaming:" the Shalebridge Cradle mission in Thief: Deadly Shadows.
After an hour I'm in love with The Magic Circle. It's ingenious and startlingly beautiful, with puzzle, shooter, and exploration elements in wrapped into an extremely funny and rather dark story about... game development. Check it out if, like me, you have near perfect self-discipline and never ever buy things from Steam on a whim.

So has anyone been playing Rocket League? It's on PC, and it's one of the free PS+ PS4 games for July.
I have already played a ludicrous amount of it. It's the most pure fun I've had with a game in a while. It reminds me of UT 2004 Football. My friend who is a Halo person said it was sorta like Grifball (sp?) ... it's basically soccer/hockey with cars instead of people. And a giant ball.
I'm sure many of you have heard of it .. judging by Kotaku over the past week it really has taken the internets by storm. I can't recommend it enough. It's your classic "easy to learn and enjoy, difficult to master."
Warning: you will abandon the rest of your gaming library.

I'll be buying Rocket League on PC, probably later today. I've actually wanted to play it since the moment I heard all the buzz around it but I've had to hold back because (spoiler!) it's a game that Joel and I will probably be covering for Season 2 of Side by Side (filming will take place this weekend) and I didn't want to get to grips with the game without him.

Also xtal: Rocket League's cross platform so PC players can play with PS4 players. How cool is that? Can't wait for Guns of Icarus Online to do the same.
I dig PS Plus so much. And given that my PS3 and PS4 are both hooked up, I get "free" games x 2.
I've been playing Digital Devil Saga 2 (the emulated version on PS3). I have been an SMT junkie lately. Something about those games just clicks for me. Atlus is a talented bunch. I could give a big list of things about it and DDS1 that are stupid, silly, ridiculous, annoying, you name it. But nevertheless I love it. It really boils down to the Press Turn combat, which you can also find in the Persona games and the "mainline" SMT titles (Nocturne is waiting patiently in my queue). I just can't get enough of its tactical nature. When you do things right, you absolutely annihilate enemies. But do one thing wrong and you could be in big trouble, especially in hard mode. DDS is a little more forgiving than, say, Nocturne here. Hard mode is where these games really shine, since you have to constantly be on your game. Whereas on normal you can be sloppy and still get by.
The story is just plain bonkers. In DDS1, I had no idea what was going on, but it was obvious that the game was deliberately withholding information. That, and the fact that the mystery was genuinely intriguing made it easy to just follow along. In DDS2, they explain everything, and it makes even less sense.

My gaming has been really really slow lately, for a lot of reasons. I'm flitting between games pretty aimlessly right now.
Aside from Arkham Knight, which I blew through in a few days and enjoyed, I've been pretty inconsistent. A little Elite: Dangerous, a little Mirror's Edge. At this moment I'm poking at Void Destroyer a little bit. Only through some of the tutorials so far, but I can't say I'm impressed yet, but the game hasn't really come together for me so maybe that will change once I get to some real missions. At the moment it just feels like they went a little overboard with the number of controls.

Has anyone played Everybody's Gone to The Rapture yet? I've put a few hours in. It's interesting. Oh, and if you are playing it, it's somehow possible to jog (instead of walk through molasses) so google it. I'm also a couple hours into The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, a seemingly similar game.
I also have a new laptop and have been on Steam this week for the first time in about a year, so that's fun. I'm finally going to play Gone Home and Kentucky Route Zero!
Also trying to finish Wolfenstein: The New Order since the game takes up 51 GB on the PS4. Spoilers if you care and didn't reach Chapter 13:
I'm killing Nazis on the moon! Pretty cool. This has indeed been a surprisingly good game.

Has anyone else heard of this? I've not played Pathologic, although Steerpike sort of dared me to. There's also some Kickstarter thing as well, maybe?

Edit: OK now I get it. Ice Pick Lodge Kickstarted a remake, but is also releasing this remaster, which isn't simply a graphical upgrade. It's difficult not to be completely endeared to these guys after reading their reasons for doing it. They love the old game, and it's defined who they are, but they are the first to admit to its broken state. I'm temped to pick up both.

I just finished The Beginner's Guide, though it doesn't want to be written about.
Also playing Orion Trail (early access, it comes out next week) and Lego Dimensions.
Lego is going on the GOTY list for me already. Not even because it's the "best" game (though I'm enjoying it) but because it's just SOOOO 2015.
I have Mario Maker and MGS5 on the "stack."
I backed Orion Trail but haven't played it yet. Need to fix that.
I took a brief break from MGSV to play Undertale. Interesting little game.
I'm nearing the end of my MGSV time, I think, on account of I'm running out of missions to do and I'm not sure how much score chasing I'll want to do at this point (at least right now), and I really want to hit some other games I've been putting off. I really haven't done a lot of gaming this year, relatively speaking.

Hopefully the remaster (and the remake) will be fantastic, though in the case of Pathologic it's easy to understand where its detractors are coming from. Even correcting the problems with the original won't necessarily change the underlying reason it's divisive, which is that it's not much fun to play, and it's not-fun in a way that feels distinctly unpleasant. I can't say "punishing" because we love many games that are "punishing;" maybe it's better to say Pathologic punishes you for playing at all. Still, at £10 it'd be worth trying it out even if you're dubious.
AJ, once you're into MGS5 I look forward to hearing what you think!

I've taken a break from SMT. I'm finding Nocturne not quite as enjoyable as DDS. Also, Persona 4 just doesn't hold a candle to P3 for me. For all of the gameplay improvements, the story it tells just isn't as interesting. So I've been playing Alien: Isolation on PC. Oh man this game is terrifying and I've only just gotten started really.
Darkest Dungeon is on sale on Steam (along with a million other games of course).
Rule #2: Double-tap
I finished Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath on Sunday, as well as The Beginner's Guide afterwards. Loved Stranger's Wrath and I hope Oddworld Inhabitants can keep making games. Finished Machinarium too a few weeks back and thought it was a fun little adventure game with a few too many 'why am I doing this?' type solutions. Absolutely gorgeous visuals though and Tomáš Dvořák's soundtrack is delightful.
The Beginner's Guide is... it's something. Yeah, I know. I didn't exactly enjoy it, but I'm glad I played it and really appreciate and admire what it set out to do. I'd like to give it a second pass at some point to glean more from it. It's only about an hour and a half long.
So now I'm between games. On the side I've been playing Rocket League, Evolve and Ticket to Ride with friends. I'm considering Pillars of Eternity or Anno 1404 next. Or FTL.
Botch, keep us posted on Alien Isolation! I'd love to hear your thoughts and share my own with you. I only finished it earlier in the year when I got my new graphics card! The sound and visuals are incredible. Darkest Dungeon is high up on my hitlist when it's released.
I'll try to man-up with Alien: Isolation, especially since I'm genuinely into the story. But that alien...
While I was sniveling like a girly-man over Alien, I dabbled a bit more in Thief (the new one) on PS3. I actually like it so far, from a gameplay perspective. It's still as sneaky as ever, but informed by the changes that have occurred in games since the 90's. I consider that a good thing, and I'm definitely no progressive in that sense (i.e. I don't promote change for its own sake).
What I don't care for much is some of the music. I'm ambivalent about the new Garrett as a character (oy, that ridiculous get-up). Some of the writing though is actually quite good - mainly the flavor text you hear from guards.
The Wasteland 2 Director's Cut is out now. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done with it.
Rule #2: Double-tap
I saw you playing it, Botch. It reminded me that I still have to finish it. I was impressed with Thief overall -- for a game no one wanted, that no one expected to be worth anything, it really surprised me. They made plenty of stupid mistakes with their follow-up, but taken on its own merits Thief is a pretty solid game.
As for Alien Isolation... I got it on a Steam sale but I doubt I'd survive even one encounter with that thing. Fear and Steerpike don't mix.

Sir, You Are Being Hunted is currently a couple of bucks (or £1.50) on Steam. Well worth a look if you like the sound of DayZ and STALKER with robots, with the charm and Britishness of Wallace & Gromit.
I really enjoyed the single-player last year (and I kind of regret not putting it on my Games of 2014 list), and they've just added multiplayer which I had a blast on last night with friends. Nearly died of starvation but thankfully found some chocolate biscuits and a flask of tea. Armand also ate some fish and chips out of a bin.
I also love the procedurally generated islands in this. Very evocative. And with the bots turned off Sir, You Are(n't) Being Hunted is a lovely game to wander around in.
Is everyone as excited for Assassin's Creed 10 as I am?!?
Ha ha ha. As if.
I finished Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Still haven't gotten to Gone Home or Kentucky Route Zero yet. Juggling a whole bunch of games right now. I have a mini rant about EGTTR; it remains an interesting game, but ultimately disappointing to me.
Also going to play Life Is Strange since the last episode has come out this week.
