I'll just chime in here and say that my time with RAGE was enjoyable but I had nowhere near long enough with it to say more than what I said in mine and Mat's EGE 2011 impressions. I just like the idea of having a proper id shooter at the center of a 'light' open world RPG experience, with decent vehicles.

As much as I've played Borderlands it's not that good but still a lot of fun multiplayer. I don't feel like I've really engaged my brain much since I started playing it, not like I would in say Alien Swarm or Left 4 Dead or Brink. I can't imagine playing Borderlands solo but that's what RAGE is almost entirely focused on so I suspect it to be a lot more interesting.

Edit: just read this and this and both seem like quite balanced and sensible reviews. Seems that the game is good at stoking your fire but not too good at keeping it going.

Recently rekindled my love of Vertical Drop Heroes. So simple, so clever. Free is a bonus.

There is no way Alien Swarm is better than Borderlands. That game was a snoozefest. Borderlands is fun. Not a mind bender or anything. Just fun. And the many, many, many hours we've spent playing it should be proof enough of its fun. Sometimes, that's all you need in a game.

Armand, you played it for an hour! One hour. I've played Borderlands for just under 38 hours and Alien Swarm for just under 14. I'd have played AS more but my old rig wasn't up to it and by the time I got my new PC, interest in the game had waned (because it's a relatively short baked-in campaign).

The only reason I've played Borderlands for as long as I have is because we haven't got many other 4 player coop games — there's always L4D but I feel like I've overdosed on that. I've been pretty bored with Borderlands for a while now (like the last 10 hours or so) because it's so damn repetitive and with very few if any particularly memorable encounters. I don't feel at all compelled to go back to it. That's not to say I don't enjoy playing with you guys, it's always fun, but the game itself isn't really doing it for me any more.

On the face of it Alien Swarm might seem repetitive but there's actually a lot more to it than you think. Hacking doors and control panels while the rest of your team defend, sealing doors behind you to slow the aliens down, placing your own defence turrets and traps, choosing whether to sacrifice health and ammo supplies or body armour for more equipment at loadout, carefully dealing out your supplies and buffs at the right time, moving together carefully (too slow and you'll be dogpiled, too fast and you risk separating). There's all the different weapons, equipment and characters, co-ordinating your attacking and defending so you don't hurt each other (xtal's grenade launcher toting medic was never a good idea). There are also some great set pieces (the lift battle, the first person control sentry gun, the dark metal walkway lit by the dropship) — it feels like a top down Aliens movie!

With Borderlands I've found that there's very little intentional team work when compared to something like L4D, Brink or Alien Swarm. It's usually just a case of shooting and looting, repeatedly, until you level up or find some equipment to switch around. Sure, that was fun for a while but I'm really tired of it now. I'd sooner play some more Magicka or even better, Sanctum, which we haven't returned to!

I tried a bit to catch up to you lot in Borderlands, but I spend so much more gaming time lately with the couch/console combo rather than the chair/computer one. I sit down on the computer, open my Steam library... stare a bit at STALKER, cry... look toward Metro 2033, with the prospect of starting a new game since my saves became borkened, and cry... consider playing Osmos, PvZ, or Audiosurf, elect not to, cry... fire up Portal 2, legitimately forget how to play/what to do/where to go, cry. Go sit on couch, play Fallout 3/New Vegas.

But Alien Swarm, now there is some of the most fun I've ever had co-oping a game!

Best medic ever. Right, Gregg?

I know the feeling xtal, I try and focus on one game at a time and follow it through. In Fallout 3's case that's been put on hold at Rivet City while I catch up on a few other games. I dropped Deus Ex (the first one) after seeing the wealth of games at Eurogamer expo and realising that I didn't have the time or motivation to keep up with it. I'm on the last leg of Bioshock 2 at the moment after picking it up in the Steam sale for like 2p or something. I'm very impressed with it so far, to put it lightly.

I'm wanting to have a good look at SpaceChem next and catch up with some of the smaller indie games I've amassed before Skyrim.

Best. Medic. Ever, xtal. Undoubtedly.

Oh and I also finished Vanquish on the PS3 a few weeks ago. I was really disappointed with it to be honest, it offered very little else beyond what was already in the demo. I must have fought the demo boss about 4 or 5 times through the course of the full game. It just didn't have much else up its sleeve.

Nothing since I ground to a halt in Stalker. I wanna play Witcher 2 and Deus Ex 3 and replay New Vegas.  Someday. I think I need to grit my teeth and finish Stalker to break the block.

I just finished Old World blues. It was very good. I'll probably wander around the Mohave landscape a bit since I see quite a few sites I haven't visited. I don't know if they were added with OWB. There are still a few locations in OWB that I haven't discovered. Great revisiting New Vegas. I love the Fallout games.

My list of unfinished but not abandoned forever games is causing me discomfort but not enough pain to not start another (game).

Six days post China I jumped East one more time zone for a gathering of my kids & their spouses & kids. I suwannee (southern expression) within one hour of touchdown tomorrow that Dead Island will be purchased & digitally downloading.

Please let me not be among the many having every which way kind of problem running the game. By nightfall I want to be killin' zombies.  Precisely the depth and complexity I seek at the moment. [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]

I started Two Worlds II yesterday and then jumped into Demon's Soul's today. Finished the tutorial for DS and am really excited to be playing it. TW II may have to wait a while so I don't get confused about which game I am playing.

Yap, how is the killing zombies going?

Pokey, I look forward to hearing about your experiences with Demon's Souls. I love that game and I'm currently deep in my obsession over its sequel. Start a Bollocks thread if you like. Meho and I at least can give you some guidance, and there may be others who have some experience with demons and the souls thereof. Next to Stalker it's probably one of the main games I recommend everyone try, even if only for a short time.

And seconded! Yap? Dead Island? Talk to us!

The tutorial went very well, but when I started 1-1, I died very quickly. Trying to get to the first archer on a platform, I stepped backward into a deep pit. On the second try I got a lot further but didn't watch my health closely enough when I ran into several enemies and died a second death by not paying attention. I am midway through my third try. Wish that health bar wasn't so short.

I think I will start a Bullocks thread. I have some questions.

We need a zombie smiley.

Dead Island is just what I need right now. No learning curve & destruction. Shallow & bloody.

So far:

Open world with sunshine & vegetation (no dungeons & gloom) so far. Later a town, don't know what else.

Uncomplicated quests that move you around the map while continuously killing by (among other methods, my specialty is blades) chopping off heads and a jump-slash combo.

Weapon upgrades and mods that make looting every container worthwhile.

Forgiving death penalty (money & re-spawn).

Aussie accents! (not every npc but a nice change from Am-anadian).

Driving vehicles (busted *all* the windows of a pickup truck while escorting/driving an npc - crashed into everything cause I cannot steer for sh*t [Image Can Not Be Found]) & "fast-port" via map shortens distances but I've only opened two points on the map.

The world of Dead Island does not take itself seriously - nor do I. Expect zombies -> get zombies.

Thank you, Scout, for saying this.  It is exactly where I am right now.  I am at a stand still with games.   I can't get myself back to Stalker to go through the punishment of finishing it and I can't seem to move on to another game  -- many of which are waiting for me on my computer or in my library at Steam.

I am in limbo.  But I can't even get myself back to playing Limbo which I downloaded and started and was enjoying.

Well,  eventually something will happen to move me forward in one way or another.  But I hope it happens before I die.

I finally decided  I can't keep saying  -- Finish Stalker before you do anything else.   So I haven't finished Stalker and am playing Skyrim and enjoying it a lot.   Will I ever finish Stalker?  Who knows.  Even if I don't,  I am happy to have battled through as much of it as I did.  it was a great experience and I feel ok that I just got as far as I did before I quit.

But, of course, it is still on my computer and one day I may wake up and say,  "Today is the day.  I will finish Stalker."  Who knows.   Stanger things have happened.

But for now,  I am really enjoying Skyrim.

Kay, you made it a lot further than many people have made it in Stalker. That alone is an accomplishment to be proud of!

I'm juggling three games at the moment: Dark Souls, Skyrim and Arkham City. All are great, all demand my attention, but time is limited.

Still skulking about in DX:HR; however, I've cracked the cellophane on Skyward Sword and have made it to the first dungeon. The first time I heard that distinctive chime when solving a puzzle made me smile.
