Togs, wot's your thoughts on 3DS? It intrigues me, but I don't even use my DS Lite to the degree that I should. In fact I'm not certain where it is. Should I plan on this purchase?
As for me, MrLipid recently alerted me to an "easy" (translation: conceivably possible within human imagination) patch for The Void, which I'm back into now. Patch makes it easier, but now it crashes out every 20 minutes or so. Dangit!
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
@Steerpike: Since the ginormous DSi just came out, I've not been paying much attention to any of the press for the 3D version. Plus, I'm kinda like Ebert in thinking not every medium benefits by being 3D (saw Clash of the Titans last weekend - non 3D - and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they'd developed the 3D version except to ca$h in on the current craze of Avatar... which was 3D done correctly, but I digress). For me, I really just need my DS to play games. Anything after that is gravy. It'll be interesting to see if developers step up and develop *good* games for the 3D version.
@Pokey: it took me a single day to trade my original DSi for the XL once I'd had one in my hands and saw a side-by-side comparison of the screen size.

I finished up 'The Path' last week. I have mixed feelings about the experience. I liked exploring the forest but thought that playing through as all six girls and trying to find all the items for each one was rather tedious. Suffice it to say, I didn't achieve it heh. I can't claim to understand all of the nuances to the plot either.
Now I'm playing through the 'Casebook' games and also working my way through 'World of Goo'. I really didn't care for 'World of Goo' at first, but after sticking with it for a few hours, I can appreciate the subtle elegance of the game engine and the graphics/sounds do put me in a mellow mood.
Damn, I forgot to send you a link to that patch Steerpike. When I read about it, I remembered you saying how devilishly difficult The Void was. Let me know how you get on with it now that it's a bit easier, providing you can get past the crashes…
I picked up Demon's Souls again last night and was left wimpering as I tried to take on two Maneaters in Latria. Many epic fails.
I've been playing L4D2 (on PC) for a couple weeks now and it is glorified Zombocalypse goodness to the max. I love it. If anyone plays on Steam let me know... the co-op modes are a blast.
<< Steam account is 'mboone' but I think my handle appears as 'actf pinion' (a holdover from the Ghost Recon days).

I'm still truckin' with DA:O – up to lvl 17 or so now. Can turn into insects. Had romantic liaisons with two lady party members – can't find a conversation tree for the third, and I think she may be too old to get-jiggy-wid-it. Down in the Mines or Mor.. *ahem* Orzammar at the moment.
The conversation choices aren't too clear sometimes. Helped a dwarf the other day,
dwarf – Thanks for your help getting me into the cool wizard's group I can't wait to go, should I bring anything?
me – No, just enjoy yourself.
- A show of appreciation would be nice.
So, thinking it would be nice for the dwarf to take a show of appreciation to the wizards, I chose the second option… then the dwarf becomes a bit downcast…
dwarf – oh, you want something from me? sorry, I don't have much, but you can have this thing that my family saved generations for…
No, no, no, that's not what I wanted to say… just thought it would be polite for you to take the wizards a nice bottle of port, or a cheese platter, or a bowl of fruit or something…

When I'm moved into our new place in the next couple of weeks I hope to finally, once again, enjoy a connection that doesn't drop out like a loser. My biggest problem is that I barely got to play L4D because of the aforementioned connection dropping out so buying L4D2 would feel plain wrong… boohoo and woe is me. Do people still play L4D and has it had much tweaking done in the last year or so? I never got to play the survivor mode either… god I'm so behind with multiplayer stuff. I've never played Gold Rush either on TF2. 🙁
A little off topic - but has anyone seen the screens for the new Transformers: War For Cybertron? I'm a tragic TF fan - I can't resist even bad TF. What do you guys think of the up-coming offering? Looks ok to me, although nothing truly groundbreaking, game-mechanic-wise.
Ooh, ooh, and really really off topic, what do you think the new Tron movie will be like? The original was my favourite movie as a kid, and The Dude Jeff Bridges is an amazing actor. I know I shouldn't be so excited; I haven't been this excited about a movie since... since... hrmmm... Let me think of the last movie I was really over-the-top excited at seeing. Am I setting myself up for a major dissappointment?

@Gregg, I think L4D saw some recent DLC (post-L4D2, surprisingly) but I'm not positive about that. Since I have L4D on the Xbox I may pick it up occasionally, but not too much. I was a skeptic of the quick release of L4D2; however, the Steam sale for $20 turned me into a hypocrite. With that said, it is indeed an improved experience. You never notice how much L4D needed mêlée weapons until you decapitate an infected using an electric guitar.

Near the end of Black Mirror 2 and the story seems to be falling apart at the seams... along with the voice acting. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Picked up Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands [Wii] and I'm having a blast. Instead of button mashing for combat, you wave the remote and/or the nunchuk around. This version appears to be geared more towards puzzle-solving and platforming than what I saw in the videos for the 360/PS3 version. Also, the story is completely different. But wait, there's more!: Included with the Wii version is an unlockable for the original SNES game (which I've unlocked). Awesome sauce!

@Toger: do you think The Forgotten Sands (May I just say this is a terrible name? Especially when it's so close to The Sands of Time) is appropriate for, say, an 8-year-old? I gave my Wii to my parents to keep at their place for when my much younger cousin makes visits and needs* something to do- which is constantly. I think all I've provided for him to play is Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports. He'd probably appreciate something new.
Is the prince still a really annoying, totally self-absorbed asshole? From my only PoP experience-- The Two Thrones-- he is one of the saddest protagonists of all.
*when I say "needs" I actually mean demands, craves, begs for.

This is the only talking price I know as I've not played a PoP game since the freeware version back in the 80s/early 90s.. although I think I may have Sands of Time in one of my to-play bins [Image Can Not Be Found]
The Prince is overyly concerned about not having his own kingdom and wife but that's what everyone thought about back then. [Image Can Not Be Found]
Hmm, appropriate for an 8 year old… possibly. I've not run into anything I would deem inappropriate for kids. I haven't seen any scantily-clad women - the genie travelling with the prince is wisp-like and Tinkerbell in size - and so far, all the enemies appear to be of the other-worldly type. Combat doesn't involve any blood. The defeated just melt into the landscape. The prince does have to kiss a statue or two in order to get extra powers. If I remember correctly, 8 year old boys usually regard kissing as "gross!".
The game is very forgiving. You have an almost unlimited number of lives, there's a hint system and it's pretty. Just the game for kids and combat weenies like me.
Check out the IGN video review for further edification. That's how I found out about the differences in the versions.

Hit me up on Steam, Lewis. I swear to christ I'm like, the best medic in the world. Seriously. I'll stick with you to the bitter end. I stayed in the same server once for a few hours and between my healing and this same soldier's amazing skill with a rocket launcher we each had around 900 points by the time I finally called it a night. I probably pulled off 50 übers and got something like 700 kill assists. I'm so damn good. (But put me in any other class where you do actual work and I'm shit.)
Steam name: mboone (but my handle is 'actf pinion' …I don't know which you have to search/friend)
Though your living in GMT land doesn't much lend itself to my GMT-05:00, unless you're frequently awake at 2am on week nights. Hell, I'm still at work right now, and if you're the least bit sensible (probably not, because you frequent this madhouse/silo) you'd be in bed right now! Maybe an open weekend some time!

Well, I am trying to decide what to play next. Just finished Dragon Age Origins: Awakening. I previously had installed The Witcher thinking it would be my next game and even took a few peeks at it.
Then I went back and looked at some more recent reviews and reread Scout's Gothic 2: Night of the Raven review. When I first read it, I went out and ordered the whole Gothic series. And I understand that Risen which I liked a lot about (and some things not at all) was an outcrop from the Gothic series, so I have now installed Night of the Raven and will give it a try. My major concern is that there is no setting for level of difficulty. I generally have to play on the level of "total wimp" but I will take a look around and see what it is like. And if it is way beyond me, I will go back and start The Wicther which seems to have a "total wimp but worse" setting.
Either way from reading Scout's reviews of both of these games, I can't lose. I have something good in my future.[Image Can Not Be Found]
Kay
Imagine life with no hypothetical situations.
You picked a great game, Kay. One of my favorites. I think you will do fine, but you have to be aware that you are pretty weak to start and be prepared to run if needed. Certainly don't take on any shadowbeasts or trolls till later in the game. Use the trick of leading enemies to people who can help you out, maybe do all the fighting for you, as with the farmers early in the game. Once you get inside the town, there are lots of quests you can do. It does play a lot like Risen.

I like to be medic too xtal so maybe we can give Lew a medic sandwich or chain heal. I'll get you added to my Steam list.
If we can arrange a decent time to play over the weekend that would be great. It'll be even better when Mat C's up to speed.
And as always, I'm open to the original L4D if anybody's game.
