Beware Dead Rising 2. Some've, like Armand, have had no problems. My install took a day of work to successfully launch the game and another day to keep it launched for more than ten seconds. It's now running fine if fine includes no sound.
Bonus round: can't be alt-tabbed out of, alt-entered to run windowed (you'll need a third part program for that, I'm using dxwnd), or alt-D to minimize to desktop. To remap controls for keyboard, mouse, or gamepad you'll need to edit text files.
Daily Double: can't remap keys to the number pad.
The cut scenes can be skipped, though without warning or option to see them again, so it has not violated all of Finkbug's rules.
http://segmentnext.com/2010/09.....-fix-fixe/ offers solutions to many of the possible problems and http://segmentnext.com/2010/10.....-controls/ lists what will need to be edited for controls.
#4 in the first link requires expansion. It was my first problem. What he's referring to is that the game has two levels of DRM (Steam & Games for Windows) but the included GFW version is wrong. So reinstall GFW clean and not using the included GFW install. This worked for some. Not for me. The solution that got my game to launch was reinstall the game (again, sigh) but not let steam launch it, reboot in safe mood with networking enabled and manually launch the game which tosses an error. Then (angry yet?) reboot normally and launches fine from Steam. With dxwnd running if I want windowed.
Exhausted just typing it all. I'd've asked for a refund day one of attempts except the very first game I bought on Steam, which has never run, was refused a refund so why bother?
alskjdlakshdlakhdiwealksjdalksjd[Image Can Not Be Found]If anyone from Steam, Games for Windows, or Capcom gets near me in the next couple weeks the local paper will have a fourth page report of an "accidental" fatal slip on an icy sidewalk.
Week of Champions: dxwnd is a discontinued DX9 program, so it messes with DX10/11 features. Not a big deal given the way Rising looks it must've only been DX10 for the GFW certification. Obsidian & Bethesda, hey, Vegas crashing instantly if tabbed out of? Ho-ho-ho, it's 2011 and you're on my sidewalk kill list.

Oh-oh. Sounds similar to the Steam thread on Bioshock 2. The game that I have successfully (just barely) reinstalled on two computers that weren't the one I started playing on. A task that involves...lots of GFWL stuff. Not the same as, but similar in nastiness to, Finkbug's description.
My problem now is it's been so long since my last save, I can't remember how to play it. I'm standing with a camera poised to shoot a picture, left hand radiating electro-shocks, afraid to move a step for fear I'll be attacked....without a clue how to defend myself.
I do want Dead Rising 2. Not sure I want the grief.
My gamepad skills controlling a free camera with a stick are, well, just imagine the first time you tried to play an FPS. Remember walking into walls, standing in corners, staring at your shoes or the ceiling? That. Because of the idiocy of not allowing number pad keys to be mapped [Image Can Not Be Found] I'm struggling to learn that. My failing, not the port's. See the original for its failings.
All the screaming aside, the game itself looks really fun and if you buy it Armand can defend us. Or the two of us can play together stuck in a corner after our short burst of success killing zombies with giant plushy toys and fire axes.

Okay, thanks to Steam's holiday sale and a graphics card that my partner got me for Christmas, I've gotten back into PC Gaming. 🙂
Here are my purchases thus far:
AaAaAA! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Back to the Future
Ben There, Dan That!
Ceville
Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble (LOVE THIS GAME!)
Machinarium
Overlord Collection
The Path
Penumbra Collection
Rush
Sid Meier's Pirates!
Torchlight
Uplink
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
Have I won yet? 😉
I was unimpressed by the DoD Demo, but I think someone around here played it. I have a memory of some discussion. Which is astounding, given my memory.
All in all I didn't suffer as badly from the Steam Sale as I'd thought. I certainly didn't win the Contest of Shame. With the Sale coming to an end tomorrow, let's all start tallying soon!

Heard a lot about Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble but never had a chance to play it.
Hanover, my guess is that you're not even close to winning. You've beat me hands down though. I foresee much shame and even more Ringgits.
Yeah, its a weird mix of Board Game, Casual Game, Adventure Game and RPG. I have to say its the most original thing I've played in a long time.
It wasn't until websites like Steam and Gamersgate popped up that I had to admit that, yes indeed, I have an addictive personality type. And here I was laughing over and over again about all the poor suckers in the world not being able to beat their addiction to drinking, smoking, crack, gambling, etc. I was always above all that, able to partake and then hold off of for months on end (well, maybe not the drinking).
But now here comes my downfall…Steam and these other sites have just turned my world upside down with their constant array of amazing deals and game packs for 75% off and everything else!
I've only been using Steam and their ilk for maybe a tad over a year now, but I think I'm getting close to overtaking the amount of boxed games I've purchased over many many years, haha.
Like Armand, I may just be too shamed to actually post my total for this contest. But bringing this ugliness to the light for all to ponder on could be the best medicine.
Edit: Is the tally supposed to include the whole month of December, or just starting from December 22nd? If I just post the tally post December 22nd, it actually doesn't seem too bad. Moderately bad, but could be worse. 🙂
Just the Steam Holiday Sale, from the 20th to the end of the sale on the 2nd. We'll be calculating using the exchange rate set on the 3rd of January.
Currently:
$1 (US) = 3.07 Ringgits
$1 (AUS) = 3.14 Ringgits
€1 = 4.11 Ringgits
£1 = 4.79 Ringgits
The winner receives two prizes: first, a Party of Shame, per xtal's suggestion. This basically includes mockery and ridicule. Second, one more Steam game of his or her choice. This second prize is intended to highlight the winner's shame, since it's yet another game on the mountain of games they just bought.
Harbour Master recently described the Tap-Repeatedly Steam Holiday Sale Contest of Shame as perverse, diabolical, and sado-masochistic. Which it is meant to be. Oh yes, yes indeed.

I think this year's sale was weak and saucy. Making for an overall general taste of "weaksauce."
It sucked compared to last year's. I bought maybe 7 or 8 games... which is nothing. I got one bundle of 4 games, then the bundle of some army shooting games I forget the name of, and someone else gifted me another game that I actually forget. They're just putting games on sale that either a) suck, b) don't interest me, or c) everyone already has... (Half-Life? Really? It's 12 years old... if you haven't played it you shouldn't have a computer.)
If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever

On sale Saturday: Mafia II @ $12.49. Yay? or Nay?
I would play it for story only using cheats (vs. player skillz) to stay alive. Could the game play as an interactive movie? Has anyone on this forum even played Mafia II?
Yap, have you played the first Mafia? It is one of my favorite games and had a great story. I loved the missions and the extra stuff they included. Mafia 2 should be just about as good even though the extra stuff like is missing. I bought it for Christmas and will soon be starting it. I did play the demo and it looked good. Thanks for the rec, Pokey. Last night while staring at the buy button, I made a list of unplayed games (sans throwaway obvious crap titles). Decided to postpone a Mafia II purchase till Steam Holiday 2011 at which time it will be an unpondered buy. Probably priced even lower.
After studying my list, I may hold off buying The Witcher 2. But not likely....already preordered from GOG. [Image Can Not Be Found]
I spent about as much as Toger:
Mass Effect 2 (not even on the good sale but I bought it on Dec. 20th so I thought I would throw it in just to mess up the curve...) 14.99
Le Chuck's Revenge 4.99
Zeno's Clash 3.75
Indie Fright Pack 4.99
With Mass Effect 2 added in I spent 28.72
Take ME2 out and it's a whopping 13.73
Really not much I really wanted to buy this year.
