I once finished Paradroid and Wizball, do they count?  I'll have to look through all of my game cases for an accurate count of what I've finished recently, though [Image Can Not Be Found]

Hey Jen [Image Can Not Be Found]

I posted a little update in my Fallout 3 thread - in Brisbane now (minus the PS3 for a couple of months) - but am able to stop in and chat a little more often too.  Will have to catch up on the trivia thread!

Uh, is it rare to finish games? I finish nearly every game I start unless it's pants.

For me, it is. I wimp out at some point because it's too hard. Or the game is pants.

Ahh, my unremitting stubborness gets me through most hair-pulling moments, the greatest of which belongs to Psychonauts. I picked up Demon's Souls again a couple of weeks ago and hit what Mat C calls The Wall: the point at which you solemnly take the disc and put it away indefinitely. I'd just had enough of it. 'No more!' I said as it taunted me from within its closed case.

Recently I've been quite happy to stop playing certain games simply because I've grown tired of them. I wouldn't typically do this -- on the off chance that they pull a surprise out their ass -- but I simply haven't got the time to spend on things I'm not enjoying anymore. It's sink or swim.

What about the hardest games you've finished?  Perfect Dark was a toughie, that last boss battle seemed to go on forever.

D-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y F-Zero GX's story mode on Very Hard. I think I can safely say OMFG here. So, so tough. My thumbs/fingers went all tingly and numb trying to finish it.

Aliens vs. Predator's Marine campaign on the Director's Cut difficulty was paptastically intense and very difficult as well.

Twitch: I beat Kaboom! after using a year of paper delivery money to replace busted paddles. They were breaking every three days. Twisted the swirly bit right off. Mom shut down the 2600 while I was running the building looking for someone, anyone, with a camera so I could mail the 99999999999999 to Atari. She's not been forgiven. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Anti-twitch: beat any early build of Zangband (blah blah roguelikes) without knowing the cyberdemon rockets were partially blocked by resist shards. After the middle game's evil earth hounds it seemed useless so it was the only resistance not covered, despite having armor back in town that would've done so. With the resistance, two of them on the map is an instant kill. One is often enough. Keypress-->character deleted. Through stupidity, luck, and terrified caution I'm probably the only person to have ever won without. Won't get me in a movie but still pleased. Idjiot saves the ASCII world.

Never quite beat the NES Ninja Gaiden but not for lack of trying.

Kudos for beating the AvP Marine on that setting Gregg. Can't imagine pulling that off. I scrubbed the end on normal.

Does it count that I finished Chapter 1 in Mass Effect? Including all side missions? Hooray me! If I get no further I've played enough to satisfy. Love my Commander Shephard except sometimes her eyeshadow becomes bright blue - an unacceptable fashion faux pas I wish could be altered but otherwise she's perfect. I'm keeping her for ME II. Assuming I finish #1.

So far my fav teamate is the giant red krogon Wrex, especially his voice. Reminds me of Charon in Fallout 3. I must be attracted to Big Brutes with kind souls. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Not such a fan of Tali although I know she provides a good balance for me as a soldier so she stays in my party.

Can't wait to meet Liara - even I find those blue ladies appealing - and for sure she'll be in my party.

Since Tali & Liara will be with me forever, I'm enjoying Wrex's company while I can.

'Course it counts!

My Tali spent a lot of time face down on metal floors but I dug her visored camel-toed pilgrimage self enough to keep dragging her to her many waffleprintfaced resurrections. Liara only enough to unlock her smooch and see what all the Lesbotalien hubbub was about. Done blue and my ovary Sheppard went back. Wrex is a great drinking buddy but kind soul is generous. You just have to get past Wrex's gruff I'll smash-everyone's face in attitude & there will be his kind heart. [Image Can Not Be Found] Riiighttt…

What does "Done blue and my ovary Sheppard went back" mean? I have tried to translate from Fink to English but failed. You made it with Liara? Then went back to men?

If I weren't a soldier needing strong support in tech/biotics, I'd go for the really sweet, soft-spoken slightly Hispanic inflected Kaiden who has (alas) weak complementary abilities (at best).

Correct translation my befrocked dogheaded friend. [Image Can Not Be Found] My female Shep spent enough time with the androgene to get in bed then ditched her for Wrex and never looked back.

I most enjoyed chatting with Tali and Wrex so they came along instead of optimizing. If I were to replay, I'd give Garrus a shot. Many insist he's also a good bar buddy once his conversations are opened.

Kaiden? the milquetoast female romance option in every Bioware game? Pshaw. Oh noes, they put a chip in my heads and I have teh headaches. I can levitate teh pencils.

The female version of him in 2 is worse. Not milquetoast but "bad ass": oh noes, teh same they made me all monstery to levitate many pencils so I tattooed my boobs and wear few clothes and live under the stairs on teh starship. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Well, shit. This means I am the wimpiest of them all if Yap has completed ME's chapter 1 (where does the chapter end?) Do you have the Mako yet? Maybe I made it further than I think.

Naw, never fear the Power of Wimp. I know the Mako will be the game killer. I get to ride/manuver/shoot from the Mako when we visit our first planet, the rescue of Liara. Which we will do as soon as I talkity-talk around the ship as the newly appointed commander. A task I am drawing out as long as possible knowing what's coming up next and how hateful it will be. For me.

Reread my first post where I pointedly stated: "If I get no further I've played enough to satisfy."

I knew. I know what's to come. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Such a pity as I quite enjoyed running around a city and talking incessantly. Who needs to fly off to faraway places & drive an all terrain vehicle? (male players? [Image Can Not Be Found])

Besides, never ever forget that you can jump. Moreover, you can even jump & shoot! You will always and forever be better than me.  [Image Can Not Be Found] [Image Can Not Be Found]

Male me loved the Mako! [Image Can Not Be Found] It bounced and tipped over and eveything. I think I only turtled it once. Must have reloaded. It was sort of unrealistic the places it could go though but it was a blessing in some of the combat zones. I think you could cut its use to a minimum if you wanted to get out and fight on foot.  Frankly most of the planets were so empty and bare of locations walking would have quickly been a game killer for me.

I played a male Shepard and don't remember if I hooked up with Bluesy or Hoofy. It was one of them. I just don't get in-game romances for the most part. It's hard enough to suspend belief without pretending to care about some ficitional character.

Blusey was kick ass in combat though. Made my gun toting life a lot easier with her floating hulks around like skeets for me to pop out of mid air. I had to hurry just to get in a kill sometimes. Much like Boone is now in New Vegas. Overpowered sidekicks are fun!

I parked Gaiden from day one. In a way I was glad he wasn't yet one more hard team choice to make.

Jumping is easy compared to that damned Mako. I think I quit on the planet to pick up Liara. Good luck, Yap! [Image Can Not Be Found]

The only thing to remember about the mako is its jump goes perpendicular to the ground. Flat ground, up. Forty-five degree upward slope, up and back and land downslope. Combat is zoom in and shoot the cannon. If something shoots glowing goobers back, one one-thousand, two one-thousand, get the count until it hits. When the next lights up count count jump.

Most of the planet missions are optional but some driving will be required. No required driving in 2 so there's hope for all. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Mass Effect seems like such an artifact of the past to me. Its characters like old friends.

If any of you are randomly asked by an Important BioWare Person whether the third game should be lead written by Drew Karpyshyn and Mac Walters or by Patrick Weekes, vote for the latter and we'll get a very different BioWare game, by which I mean it will be extremely well written rather than just passable; I know people stopped believing in the possibility of this a long time ago, but Lair of the Shadow Broker is a step in a promising direction; even when compared to other contemporary mainstream fare.
