I had a couple of X1900 XTs in crossfire for a while. They ran hot. Pretty much heated my office in the winter. As games got more demanding I finally had to add aftermarket fans to the cards, then switched to a bigger case with more case fans. It was like gaming next to the airport. I loved those cards though.
I resurrected Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl from backed up saves, patched it to 1.0005 and installed the Stalker Complete Mod on top of everything. Too late to go exploring tonight but am happy my saves worked. I'm using an orignal dvd and it seems to be working fine. I noticed the textures right away. Much cleaner look. Much more handsome looking. Also noticed how dark night was. The sleeping bag in my inventory is a nice feature. Lets me sleep in the field in increments of 1, 3, 9 hours.
I was worried my old saves weren't going to work but what littlel I looked at seemed fine. I'm in the bar location, quest to take a coded key off Bostov. I saw him earlier when I was fussing around with patches and mods but now that I'm ready to play he has slunk off.
It's been 2 years since my hard drive went down and took this game with it. I'm hopping around, looking at different saves, trying to remember the narrative arc. It's been a while. I think I'm going to break down and print out a guide.
Kay, I bought Stalker a few months ago, but haven't even removed the cellophane. If you want to play together just give me a few days notice and I'll free some HD space to install. For some reason this game scares me. Must be all the posts here about it. But many loved it, so it must be excellent.

Spike, I first have to finish Fallout New Vegas. I took a small time out to replay Zork Nemisis that GOG had for sale (once of my most favorite adventure games). But I am back to New Vegas and getting close to the end (but close to the end may be a few weeks weeks for me), When I do finish New Vegas, I would love to play Stalker with you. Believe me, I am not an intrepid action/adventure/world coming to the end player. But I have loved a lot of these games and somehow gotten through them. So let's try together.

Sounds good Kay. Whenever. My New Vegas sits alone in a cabinet, wrapping and all. I am determined to wait until all or most of the DLC have been released. Maybe summer or early fall. I didn't buy any of the F3 DLC until about 2 months after I started playing. I wasn't sure I'd like the game, so why buy the DLC until I was sure? This time I think I'd like to start the main game with DLC installed. I would probably play the base game until I was reasonably leveled since I read that Dead Money is brutal to lower level gamers.
