I don't think hunting and blacksmithing are worth much except to get gold and I have plenty of that. I am using crystal magic. The casting is slow now but it was useful across to the ruins. I also used it through the trapdoor near the first winch. I stood on the edge so it opened, and sent fireballs till the creatures were dead.  When it reaches a high number, it should be a powerful weapon. Don't know if I will have the points to put in it, but I hope to.  Have you used your hero's crowns and ogre roots for permanent strength increases?

Yap, you can't go back buy any scrolls but maybe you could make them. The monastery has been attacked. I don't have any blank scrolls. I'm heading back before the big door opens. That should work.

My lost edit was about flying. Do you use the jump key when you fly? I crossed to the ruins hitting the jump key as I neared the windows and sailed up and through.

Yes, Eldric said to read everything. I read the column outside the big door. Have you seen more?

Hmmm Bandit sounds enticing. Are spells expensive? Seems like bandits should have plenty of money after a while.

Here's another question. Do you have to drag herbs and potions to the quickbar to ingest them? I tried right clicking on them in inventory and nothing. Had to drop them into the quickbar and then tap the equivalent number.

I finished the main quest of Oblivion and that's that for me.  I ordered Risen today and should get it in two to three days.  Thought I would give it a try since you all seem to like it and it might be fun to play along with other instead of months or even years later.

Scout try left clicking. I use them from the inventory. You can buy scrolls for 100 gold or you can buy blank scrolls if you have the rune and make your own (50 gold plus ingredient). Lockpicking gets you lots of gold.

Kay, welcome and glad to see you are going to play Risen. It is great to play with others.

Yap, you can go back and get scrolls. Must have been a glitch because I tried it before opening the door and after with the same results. Hope it doesn't mess up the game. Keep a named save before you do it. I think it will be okay. It cost me about 2000 gold extra. The game seemed to remember the first purchase even when I went from an older save. I could play from either save, I guess.

Pokey, I used my rare herbs to make +stat potions & consumed them. Figured I needed the benefits now. If I become weaksauce later on due to my 100 cap & unable to progress on my own, I'll ask 'god' for help. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I'm "going in" now....here's hoping I keep track of saves, reloads, auto & quicksaves while I decide whether to continue or double back. I stocked up on parchments before handing over the disks so it's only a writing desk that I need.

This reminds me of Gothic 3 a lot. It's almost a continuation of it. I like it. I doubled back to the beach and  picked up a lot of stuff I overlooked in my initial dash for safety. I have a rusty sword and a frying pan now. That's a start in this game. I thought it odd the place where I got the sword had a suit of armor just laying there but I couldn't pick it up…grrr.

kay, I'm just starting out so we'll be the struggling noobs to Yap and Pokey's wise warriors.

Pokey....HELP!

I reloaded a thousand times to levitate across to that ruin (past the scorpian). Summoned Fred thanks to you. Die by the fire trap. Reload, found lever, killed both guys & game crashed.

Reload to Fred & me in the ruin, lever, killed both guys and I CANNOT GET ACROSS both spear & fire traps in one levitate (my last one).  Die, reload, die, reload, die, reload....then the game locked up.

Ahhhhh! [Image Can Not Be Found]

I may stop trying to be honest about finding both wenches and except the bug that my Great Gate opened with only one. Proceed....like outside to find a writing desk, if I can.  Where did you buy your overpriced scrolls if I may ask? [Image Can Not Be Found]

Scout, you'll be barefoot in your jammies for a very long time unless the Order catches you or you decide to join the Bandits from the getgo. Me & Pokey wore our rags like forever.

Yap, touch the rough wall on your right by the traps. You can jump out the window. Did you find the map? I went clear to the ash beast and no map yet.

How's your levitation doing?  Overpriced scrolls?  I just got charged twice by the game.

Scout, I thinkTristan the farmer, a short way towards Harbor Town has some weak armor in a chest. Maybe you can distract him by leading a wolf to him or beat him up and use a joke scroll (but you probably don't have one).

I found the map finally. Had to go a ways. Glad I had an old friend to help. Back to the volcano.

Rough wall? Jump out window? I entered through a window, is that what you did? Trying to leave that first room I levitate/jumped into by going down the triple trapped corridor. But I gave up after many problems & reloaded back to post-bug/gate open.

Got the map. Keep going, thru swamp, up hill, outside, along stream, over bridge…..Eldric will stop you by his house. Hunters are being attacked. Map dropped there. Not that I can make heads or tails of the map – buncha squiggles as far as I can tell.

Saved Dork again & he went with me as far as hunters. Another bug: after Dork left the party, there he was back in his cell.

Tip: don't bother trekking back to Eldric before going thru wall. I just did & he had nothing to say besides wishing me luck. Stupid fool, after I'd made such an effort too.

Figured what's up with Fred – he can't be summoned outside Great Gate where crystals are…we walked there & *poof* he disappeared.

I still suck at levitation.

The rough piece of wall is a blocked doorway. If you touch it, your character will say “I think I can get through here” and pull out a pick. It is a detour around the trap. I tried to equip a pick myself at first. The window is right over the big door. Quick way down.

Maybe Dork just likes the cell. Maybe he will be there to use again. I got the map and am taking a break.

Thankyou!  Needed to know in case the entire sequence craps up forcing a reload/replay back to giving disks to the Inquisitor.

Again, thanks to you, when I went back to the monastery filled with you-know-whats, and was tasked with gathering the masters….my conversation with Mr. Scrolls was about that but as he was leaving, I grabbed him again, started another conversation, and was able to buy all his parchment. Thanks again. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Later: too too many, that's the name of my last save. Had to give up, no matter what - me & Fred die. Can't fight so many at once & pulling doesn't work in this game. I see three (I think) platforms but no statues so far. I really need to spend my 27 or maybe 37 LPs on crystal magic cuz axe & board ain't doin' sh*t.

Are you in the hall on the other side of the hole? I've cleared the bottom floor and have talked to Ursegor. Do we have a choice here? I have one bust and an undead skull. The fire rain scroll is powerful. I used it in the end room with 3 lizard warriors and a tiger and it nearly wiped them out. Wish I had more. Fred was helpful too. I had him fighting while I stood back and threw fireballs.

I don't think you will have any problem since you got through the wall. Did you talk to a master and he mentioned the attack before you opened the door? That seems to be the bug.

I've reached Chapter 4. You're right, I didn't have to fight that mob to the left. When I lowered the drawbridge the Inquisitor & party came across & helped me.

I am confused as to what you've done & what I did. Spoilers: (but you probably already finished this part) I talked to Ursegor, used the bust (over & over) on altars to get 3 skulls, plus his = four. Used them to open the Golden Gate. SPOILER someone ran in but said nothing about an attack. The Bug? Then Ursegor told me to collect the armor & weapon. Tattled to Eldric —-> Chap. 4. Not a clue where the temples are, hoping on the quest map.

I knew about the attack from going back to the monastery for parchment. That bossy master (forget his name) told me & said to gather the other masters but I wasn't paying attention as to why. Or where. And I didn't do it as I was busy in the volcano. Was planning to make that my next stop.

Did you purposely look for teleport stones? I haven't, figured I'd find them up while questing.

But you didn't know about the attack before you opened the door, did you? I didn't. If you know ahead of time, the door opened with just one winch. That was the bug.

We don't go back to the monastery and kill all the invaders? When was that supoosed to happen? I'm confused. I have to gather the busts and get through the door. Did you choose “need a weapon” with Usegor? There was another option about guarding the flame and I wonder how it played out. Maybe the same. Guess I'll try that part again to see. Did you tattle to Eldric before Chap 4 started?

The only teleport stone I searched out was the Harbor City one since it was useful. I guessed who would have it. The east and west coast ones I'm not sure when I picked them up. I think I have enough now.

Off to gather undead skulls.

Later…Well I entered chap 4 talking to Ursegor and then was hit from behind and died. I'll have lunch and try again. Guess I should make a run for the drawbridge or the nautilus hole. But I have to get the rune, so I guess I'm going to have to fight.

more…I used an ashbeast scroll (love it!) to get out of that fix, grabbed the rune and ran across the drawbridge. Fred stopped to fight so he was lost. Mopped up at the monastery and will now go see Eldric. Cyrus had a nice amulet that I missed before.

Tonight when I loaded my save [Image Can Not Be Found] I noticed quests for opening the Golden Gate & talking with Eldric hadn't completed although I'd finished them. Also no progression from early in Ursegor's quest chain & that was finished too. Uh-oh.

Luckily brought to this house the 2.8 hr. wayback save at the two traps where you said break down the rock door. So, I am replaying all the way from there. This time cleaning out the monastery when going back for parchment & thus picking up freebies & more exp along the way. Thanks for headups on an amulet, usually I don't even notice jewelry. Drives me nuts to constantly be swapping out but I shall return while in Chap 3 & see what he has.

As circumstances forced me to replay, I'm reassigning (via console commands) points from ice to fire. Way I was going the ability to effectively freeze enemies was not going to happen. Thankfully there's a backdoor way to respec.

I just noticed that my “report to Eldric quest” hadn't completed either. Did he say to come back again? Ursegor did say to report to him again, so maybe that should be open. Let me check my log.

Later…Yes, the Eldric quest should still be open. He ordered you to report to him when you found the armor. The Great Gate quest lists the first winch and then the second. If you never did the second, that would keep it open. The Ursegor quests were: Get rune from sarcophagus, Free ghost and Titan trap. Are those done? Do you have the locations of the tombs on your map?

You may be able to proceed even with a couple quests open. In fact, redoing from the second winch may not make any difference, since something happened before that. Is the door open after the first winch?

Another thing: did you talk to Illuminati after the volcano? Seem like a couple items clicked off then.

I'm skimming most of this discussion as I'm level 2 in the swamp getting beat up by rats, ala Fallout. This will all be gold for me once I get some stats up and running.

I take back what I said about Risen = Gothic 3. It is practically a remake of Gothic 2 except for the odd graphics. There is some G3 in the way combat stuns me but otherwise I am seeing more of the second Gothic than the 3rd.

I'm wading around in the swamp in rags with a stupid shield and a toothpick they are calling a sword. Right now I'm leading swamp rats into the camp just to collect the meat for Rachel as one wrong swing and I die. I don't even get close to a wolf, a worm or those Creature of the Black Lagoon things off in the distance. I remember how there were lots of areas in G2 where you couldn't go for quite a few levels. I did go to Harbor City and talked to the guy at the gate who wanted too much gold to get in. I paid him, took a peek and reloaded and headed off to the swamp. So far, what small amount of time spent with the bandits have convinced me an Order Warrior might not be a bad thing after all.

Had to take a break after listening to the mushroom man yet again which is as far as I've replayed.

The druid quest is not only open but the conversation is from before the volcano. Same with the gate & Ursegor, quest log conversation way behind what I'd done. I had forgotten to grab the rune which I did tonight just before noticing bugged quest log & abandoning those saves.

Let me reload what I did last night, check if the tombs are on my map. And see what Illunimati has to say. I'd hate to continue even further & end up having to go back to two traps/rock wall to do 2nd wench.

This time around (are you thoroughly confused yet? [Image Can Not Be Found]) I did the 2nd wench, did get further conversation from the Inquisitor about columns & other stuff. Between that & clearing the monastery, I'm a level ahead of where I was last night at the mushroom man. And thankfully, it goes faster as I know where to go to do what.

Right now the swamp doesn't look so bad. I am in the volcano cave above the swamp. It is a huge place filled with ramps going all over the place and infested with scorpions, tigers, war crickets and lizardmen. I've been running through the place, jumping to move faster, hoping to find the piece of armor I am searching for. Then I will go back and battle for it. I hate the knockback, sometimes 3 or 4 in a row before I get a shot in. I am using the fireball quite a bit and even at level 3, it is quite effective. Toss a few to get the health down and then use the axe. Very rarely, I can find a place they can't reach me and then I can kill with just fireballs.

I thought most of the arena fights were fairly easy and you can pick up some cash.
