I've tried to pickpocket many people and always get "it's too risky". Maybe I didn't try the blacksmith.

Are you getting an occasional instant change in the weather? It goes from sunny to dark in a flash. Kind of unsettling.

I suspect you didn't have full health when you jumped. I tried several times and died before I realized I only had about 1/4 health. I did see and "idiot" sign when that happened. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I went +2 lvls pickpocket immediately - uncertain I'd ever find another trainer. So far only Rachel & couple of others are "too risky."

Seriously considering splitting my game in two. Train with mages for the fun of it, then reload & take the realistically smart (and easier) combat path with the Order. What a magical cop-out. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I went back to my save in the city and got pickpocket 2. I can pp nearly everyone now. I got 2 better shields and lots of other goodies. People are pretty protective of their house though. Wish I could find a better sword. I got the sewer key from Scrodo and left for the swamp where I got the sword pieces and gave the sword to the Don. I have a bunch of quests that I can't seem to finish. I am now Don 2/4 and level 6.

I did find out that it is 4 quests for either side and you are allied with them. I have none with the Order, so I better concentrate on that for a while.

I got sneak from a guy in the Swamp. On Easy at midnight, I can almost waltz up to houses, crouch & duck-walk in. Sometimes guards & npcs make cracks about how they can see me. Just don't lose the crouch after lockpicking or owners wake up.

My reload doesn't have turning in the sword. I was collecting Brogar's protection money but felt so “dirty” that I detoured back to the city. Not interested in Brogar's well-being, I am seeking proof positive of his two-facedness for Rachael. Will that woman ever take what I tell her seriously???

I picked up a +15 dam. sword somewhere but the +20 dam machete I'm using now was bought legitimately. [Image Can Not Be Found] From the swamp, musthaps the blacksmith. Both require 15 str to equip. What I really need is better armor but cannot see spending 500g (or whatever) on temp protection.  I'm betting each group's newbie armor is a pricey 1000g.

When I left off I was stealing back golden bowls & armor plates. PP rocks!

edit: Pokey, I caught my error on pg. 1, I humbly apologize. No wonder you couldn't pp w/ lvl 1 - my brain was being super stupid, so sorry I misled you. But all is well now, you're lvl 2. 🙂 (I know, I know, after going all the way back & retraining).

That's the ticket! I need to use sneak at night. I should remember that from Gothic 2. In Gothic 3 I just waltzed in and helped myself. More fun for me.[Image Can Not Be Found]

I have the +15 sword. Weapons sure are scarce. Maybe I'll try the machete. I think the blacksmith had one. Did you get the better shield in the city? It has 2 swords painted on it.

I have all the armor plates. Hope that doesn't put me at 3/4 for the Don. I saw no message so maybe I'm okay. I still need 2 bowls.

I was climbing around on rooftops and came across Romanoff's chest so I had to take on that quest. That may put me in danger.

I gave the chest to Romanov, my first turn in & only then did I learn about quest alignments. Just remembered, there's an Order quest for the chest too.

My shield is the 3 x +3 stats one, picked it up somewhere in the city before learning pp.

Keep talking around, Order guys want the bowls & plates too – that's where I am turning mine in, not the Bandits.

I get all these men confused, they all look alike with bushy eyebrows. In the city I vaguely keep track by seeing who carries bayonet-tipped sticks. In the swamp, it wasn't until Brogar told me to collect money from guys who aren't his fighters & I'd know them by their armor. Ahhhh, if only I'd noticed the difference in shoulderpads earlier.[Image Can Not Be Found]

I tried to give the chest to Romanov, but got the message I had joined the bandits, so I will have to give it to Sergio. I gave the 3 golden bowls to the Order, so I am now 1/4 with them. I have a +25 cutlass now. Did some midnight sneak-thievery and got a pretty good haul. I think I will go back to the swamp and try to beat Brogar and win the bet and then get the workers clothes because I don't see any better armor in the near future and I have a bit of gold. I never did find the captain's jacket.

I got my shield by pp the prison guard. It is +4 plus more. Also found a ring that is +10 piercing protection.

Help! My sneak broke! [Image Can Not Be Found]

Moved my saves back home & now I can't CTRL + W. wtf? I stand in one place. Only way to move in a crouch is CTRL + up-arrow and then I can't steer with the mouse cuz my finger is on up-arrow. [Image Can Not Be Found] Tried resetting controls to default (even tho I changed nothing), nada.  This will severely hamper my ability to strip everyone's assests. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Forums at Deep Silver won't load so I can't check their tech threads – I will tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Is your W working okay otherwise? Did you try an earlier save? How about assigning another key for forward movement--one that can be used by your left hand? Would E-S-D-F work? I heard of some cases where the middle mouse button stopped working and hitting 1 solved the problem. I'm hoping it suddenly is cured when you start the game up tomorrow.

I've been struggling with the time of day suddenly changing as in noon to midnight in a flash. I downloaded a program that may have solved it. If not, I may try turning off one of the dual processors.

I was able to beat Cutter with level 3 sword and a healing potion and then everythig happened fast and I was summoned to meet Carlos. I am with the Order now but not sure what to do next. There is a choice to go to the monastery, but is that to become a mage? I took off for the swamp to mop up a few things. Everyone is grumbling about some traitor. I couldn't get more arena fights but was able to get lockpick 2 and cleaned out the lower level of the cave. I tried the ghoul but guess I'll come back later.  Am I going to get some armor with the Order?

Hey, Poke. The entire Houston area was “down” all day & tonight thanks to Comcast. [Image Can Not Be Found] It was 2 am last night when I experienced my poorly loading pages – maybe the cutting edge of the outage.

Tonight, my saves were missing from hours of playing last night. Luckily I had an auto & a quicksave. I've been archiving & removing saves so they won't load. Also moving saves between computers. When numbered saves are missing, subsequent saves didn't save.  Fixed it by keeping only auto, quick & the most recent #23. Fully expect the game will crap again after it saves #22…..then won't save #24. I'm providing details in case someone googles their problem & finds my post. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I did the 4/4 quests for the Order. All I'm going to do at the Swamp. About everything doable in the City. Tomorrow I'll tell Carlos that finally, I'm ready to fight for him.

Brilliant suggestion! I'll remap walk to another key. Tonight, even arrow-up didn't always want to work with CTRL. And I experienced the teleport in a doorway! Tried to sneak into the room above mapmaker's shop and landed on the roof! Over & over. Only way in was walk, then crouch. Do you think my keyboard is going screwy? about to break down?

Needless to say I have now slid down the slippery slope. [Image Can Not Be Found]  Reloading over & over due to mistakenly hitting poor Roderick while he did most of the damage against the Bog Men made him fight me after they were dead. Again & again we did battle. Then came the arena.  (For me) a game based on potion swigging & reloads is Major No Fun. So I decided it was time to call on cMinsky whenever I need his help.

Where is the cave? Not the moth one with the dead guy, right?

I don't want to pay the mapmaker 250g. Did you find his ring & can you tell me where? I'm hoping he'll give me the map in gratitude.

After all we've been through, Carlos or someone at the monastery should provides armor. Free. I'm afraid it might be 1000g.

So you think after a certain number of saves, you can no longer save again? I haven't heard anything like that. I must have more than that. I did have some crazy times listed on my saves, but that was due to the timing problem with the dual cores. It was confusing, but I ignored it.

You are fighting the bog men? They were too tough for me and I didn't think the beermeister would help. I'll come back later. The arena fights were much easier. I've learned that in playing Gothic games, sometimes the enemy is way too tough and you come back later. I'll get the ghoul and the bog men eventually.

I'm at the monastery now. Think I will be a warrior since I heard the mage magic isn't all that great. Warriors still have some magic and you have scrolls.  Be careful when he tells you which door to go through to make your choice. I'm starting staff training tomorrow. I did get a robe but forgot to see the numbers for it.

Edit…Robe protection is 3×10 and 3×5. No charge.

Yes, the cave was the one with the dead man. You can drop down in the big hole. The ghoul is on the upper level. I did pay for the map but I have over 4000 gold even after paying for a lot of training. The ring is on Cid's girlfriend. You can pp it after talking a while.

Did you ever do much in the big house by the main gate? I think it was the Don's. I got in upstairs and did two rooms but no one is asleep and I got caught trying to do more.

I don't know about the keyboard. Do you have another one? I have a Cyber Snipa as well, but I hardly use it.

The mapmaker's upper doorway is bugged. I noticed it before when I walked in okay but was transported to the lower roof when I left. The woman following me was too. I just tried it again and I can't enter the door at all. I get teleported to the upper roof.

About the saves....I'd taken some middle #s out, last save was #30. I know I saved many times on Sunday, always do. Found a single save (#23) inside a folder I made for backups (...Risen/SaveGames/old1). No idea how it found that path. I'll delete #23 now I'm past that point & the game should save ok (it started again w/ 0000).

Roderick wants protection (from Bog Men) before he will pay you protection money (for Brogar). Since I was god anyway, I finished the arena, defeated Brogar. Mostly I never wanted to visit the Swamp again.

But, alas.  I did see that hole in the cave, no way was I going to jump down. And I bought one lvl of mining from Olaf so before I get stuck training in the Monastery, I'm going back to the moth cave & mine. In order to prevent fiddly-overload, I won't do "hunting" or blacksmithing. Yes, alchemy for the perm-stat potions. One lvl mining to see if worthwhile.

4000g !!!! I have maybe 2k. I sell just about nothing except weapons, candlesticks & dishes. Don't want to find out later what I sold was needed for a recipe. Thus, my bags are crammed.

I went upstairs in the Don's house, stole what I could, used a Joke spell on the guard who caught me running up the stairs. Out & about, I've also run away as long as the npc has no long term memory (like generic guards).

Cid's gf is super pissed at me for sending her Ciddy away. What she doesn't know is I saw him taking a bath in the brothel after he supposedly left town.  [Image Can Not Be Found] Didn't talk to him as I was doing something else, but I'm gonna. Maybe, eventually, Kayleigh will talk w/ me again so I can pp her.

I will make a save before I commit to warrior vs. mage. Did I read somewhere the training is the same? If so, that defeats my purpose & I sure don't want to play the same training twice.

There's just a few pricklybacks down there and a treasure chest. I got to Cid's girlfriend before I told on him. Maybe a joke spell if you want to use one. Nelson will give you the ring and it is +1 acrobatics, I think.

The staff training must be the same. I defeated the 3 trainers easily but Aric is tough. I'm going to use a sword instead and should do better. There are tricks to defeat him. Just talk to people. When you make the choice, it is to HIS right or left, not yours. I missed that at first. Make a named save near the campfire before entering the monastery.

Another thought on Kayleigh; when she is alone in the house, beat her up and take the ring.

Love the Monastery, wish I could play an entire game like that & forget about monsters & caves.

Combat training was easy since I'm using the Executioner's staff (38 dam) - except for Aric & I had read what needs to be done to beat him.

Biggest problem was I forgot which room was mine! I'm upstairs now, ready to study, but not before I wake up at midnight to sneak around a bit. [Image Can Not Be Found]

You have arrived at the monastery! Good to have company here. I passed combat training with the novice's staff, except for Aric, who I got rid of the sneaky way. I have the executioner's staff but don't want to waste points on staff. I'm going with the sword and crossbow.

I've been working on the murder mystery and haven't been upstairs yet. I need a broom. Seen one? Couple more things to investigate and then I have people upstairs I need to talk to.

To get to your room, face Vitus and turn left. Down the stairs, turn right, your room is the third one one the left. The one with the dead body. I did a lot of running around so I know the lower floor pretty well.

Did you get the ring? [Image Can Not Be Found]

Your room has a dead body in it? What kind of housekeepers are these monks?!

This is a wonderful game. Arrive as a novice & before you get to meet him, learn your roomate has been murdered & you are charged with finding the killer. A million times better than Murder in the Abbey.

Didn't get the ring, read a Joke spell won't work on her so you either beat her up or stand around annoyingly till she starts combat. Then beat her up & take the ring. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I put pts. in strength to equip the Executioner's staff (35 str + apples I've eaten = 38 str). Haven't put pts. into either staff or sword but finally realized - duh - I had a +1 staff ring. Equipping that gave me my first staff "move." Figured if I swapped back to sword, the strength would be just as useful.

Funny thing, since we can grab Aric's sword, it's like the devs offer a decent sword as an option. Although you know, don't you, that we can't access sword training past +7 (not 10)? Someone tried a workaround that is effective but is a mixed blessing: save all LPs through lvl 9, join nothing, train with Feech (Fingers? what's his name in Don's cave) to lvl 10. Means nothing else can be trained, no pp or sneak. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Something else....I read there's a secret way out. Turn right in library, "pull" ring (there are two). Will try tonight at midnight - assuming that guy reading is in bed. Damn, I hope monks don't stay up for midnight mass.

So you can do the apple trick more than once? I'll be looking for more then. I have a crossbow ring, so that looks preferable to bow. Besides it is more accurate and depends on strength not dexterity. Isn't it just mages that can only train to 7 sword? Did you choose mage? I think 7 is plenty of training anyway. Grab all the scrolls you can. They will be useful.

I saw those rings and will have to check them out. I think that recruit likes his books and won't be moving. Too bad, there is a nice chest near him. I looted all the rooms but nothing great was found. I wonder where that book is? Are you getting any reaction from the guy that took you to the library? He won't talk to me now.  I'm not getting much from the recruits on scrolls, may have to take off for the farm. Maybe there is a turkey around there.

How is your murder investigation going? I've stalled on that too.

I ran into Ash and he told me about the secret cellar and I thought he said Abrax, the alchemist was down there, but I couldn't find him. The crystals were helpful especially since I ran out of lockpicks (I forgot to save when I tried). Still no book. I did read lots of educational books though and transformed into a nautilus. I fought a skeleton but two of the rings didn't work. From the sounds coming from behind a door, I don't know that I want to go in.

Later....I found Abrax and the book I was looking for.
