My single male was of course Shorty D. He may be male but it was beyond belief that Hot Suc found him attractive. I knew pickin's were slim but still.

Can't wait to play DA:O but need to put some single party (me) games between NWN2 & another micro-manager. I love knowing the story will be similar as I'm loving the one we're in. I am even motivated to reinstall KoTOR 2, add the restoration mod (the finished one; the one we waited for didn't), and play a fighter (maybe find a Saber of Destructification [Image Can Not Be Found]).

Are any of the oh-so-bland companion chums from Neverwinter 1 in this game? I doubt as much, eh? They reminded me of the caricatures from Jade Empire, who were just that rather than characters themselves... but I kind of didn't care. But I remember there was a monk called Grimgnaw, and he was obsessed with death, or Death; and to fulfill his Silent Lord's appetite he would send him souls via his ax. That guy was awesome; and his motivations were sound: too many people living, trying to deny the Silent Lord His justly deserved souls. Must make them dead. Win!

The others sucked. Especially that Tomi idiot ... not much of a thief he was. Always getting detected and killed, and not particularly in that order either.

Are Neverwinter 2's just as bad?

If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever

Xtal, NWN2's companions might be described as Full Blown in their Stereotypicalness. But, in a very good way. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Tree Hugger (Druid) – check

Gruff Dwarf (Fighter) – check

Conniving Whiny Racial-Minority (Rogue) – check

Clever Talkative Midget (Bard) – check

Goody White Knight (Paladin) – check

Mouthy Cynic (Ranger) – check

Refined & Knowing but Ugly (Cleric) – check

Aloof Know-it-all (Wizard) – check

Saw Light & Changed Sides (Warlock?) – check

Toger, what would you call Shandra? Level-headed, Loyal & Doomed? Who have I missed? How would you edit my stereotypes?

I enjoy every last one. Wish they could *all* come along & bicker while we quest. That's the worst of party limitations, some I have talked with very little. I guess to answer your question, these companions are totally new. I couldn't stand the ones in NWN & *especially* Tomi.

hmm, Shandra: naive, head-in-the-sand neophyte fighter who's caught up in something she doesn't really understand and never will... until she realizes she can actually do something for the greater good. She's totally deer in headlights, but she did come up with a couple of clever lines while in the Haven (I think). Something along the lines of if their leader was rescuing an old woman's cat, the cat would be dead, the old woman's house burned to the ground and the old woman tagging along with them. That made me laugh out loud.

And Snotty Q would fit into the Aloof Know-it-all Wizard category... except she's a sorceress (I guess that's just a female wizard?)

I liked Tomi... except that penchant for running off to engage any thing in his sightline. Goatgirl has started doing that and I can't seem to stop her, except to leave her butt behind.

Firegiants and dragons and ore, oh my!

Rescued some imprisoned Luskans in the firegiant camp - they've promised to put in a good word for us in Luskan, we'll see. Found another merchant to lure to Castle McKreepy - she, too was trapped in the firegiant camp. Seems she hails from the Underpants... er Underdark (where is that strikethrough?)

True to form, I did some parts of this current quest backwards - like finding large boulders to roll down the hill on top of the unsuspecting firegiants after I'd already killed them.

Praise be! We found a new ore vein in the firegiant's camp! Instead of telling the surly miner (Peltin) I told the one from Port Llast, so my armourer should have a fresh shipment of ore soon. (Why can't I give him the ore ingots I have in inventory?)

I guess I won't get my own personal construct as I seem to have missed something in the gem mines and that's no longer on my map. foo. Unless it's just a matter of finding the book that Garius had...

Glowface is down in the basement with Spidey and I didn't see a chest anywhere around. Need I mention that it's tough to see anything down there with that freakishly huge spider in residence?!

Let's see.

Missed ore where Sydney is fought & can't go back. Got there via guy bugging us to talk about Luskan – he finally did, took us to Syd & ran away. [Image Can Not Be Found] Not on map.

My construct is operational but can't be upgraded as I never put crafting pts. on anyone. Are you missing the glowy liquid? If so, that's getable, I just did it.

Found Shandra's stuff! After much begging, I added Glowface to group. Went to equip him & he had inventory items. Huh? Not by me…looked familiar….they're Shandra's. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I am getting all mixed up with quests that require a specific party member. Sometimes that means insta-leveling 6 times (a design decision about which I could kiss the devs. Read that DA:O's npcs don't level unless questing- booo).

Talked to druids, got glowy liquid, talked to dwarves (pending), talked w/ mumbling midgets – all requiring party swaps (and leveling). Couldn't face another swap for lizard bonding (assuming I need Petco).

No fireants, yet. Although I've been bitten in RL so often that my venom level is such that I don't even notice when bitten (pain, itching, red, swelling). Until next day when the bite(s) turns into **^^^%%% (icky description unnecessary to make point).

Firegiants, not ants! [Image Can Not Be Found]

You're ahead of me. I've only begun the gathering of allies and started with Shorty D's relatives. You'll encounter the firegiants while doing that quest.

Construct doesn't do anything when I talk to it and Gnomehands isn't taking anymore golem parts. Maybe I did pick up what was needed in the gem mines and just don't know? (Journal claims I need to find rune samples (walk-thrus say those are in the gem mines). I remember going into the approriate room but don't remember if I picked anything up as I was moving fairly quickly through there and if something didn't look interesting, I left it due to lack of inventory space.) Do I need to interact with the golem as someone with crafting? I know at least one of the many has crafting points  in... something.

DA:O companions level without being on quests. They quietly wait for you back at camp until you need them. You can opt to either auto-level or level manually.

I've encountered the whining Luskan twice, but both times someone has told him to bugger off. I've not tried to take Glowface with me anywhere yet. I'll remember that when I need cash.

FireGIants. [Image Can Not Be Found] All the while I'm imagining Giant Red Ants like in Fallout 3 except NWN2's are of the Fire variety. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Maybe there's a code for the rune? It's necessary & I picked it up somewhere without intention. When Mr. Construct is complete, Annoying Midget will tell you so & for you to talk with it. Many conversation possibilities, two of which are ugrading if one has enough pts. in armor or weapon crafting. Which I don't. And didn't bother talking with him further.

Whining Luskan stands by littleboy @ Keep doorway where you can start a conversation once he's bugged you sufficiently (3x?).

Earlier, in response to Xtal? I said I enjoyed the company of all the companions? I lied. Couldn't wait to get rid of Annoying Midget, what a twit! And he (it *must* be him, who else would do something so annoying) apparently buffs us with an ability enhancer that flashes <<<<Green>>>> every couple of minutes.

Well,I can check my gem mine save to see if I missed it. If so, I'm not going back as that means going back quite a ways and I don't have it in me... And I'll just have to learn to live without the construct. That's rather annoying; if you never bring Gnomehands along in the goblin cave, you'd never complete that quest and not know why. At least let me pick up the components and have him tell me about it while in the Keep. foo [Image Can Not Be Found]

My cranky-pants are on too tight... along with it's hot and stuffy in our office. Or it could be just me. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Forgot to check the gem mines save. It's tough when your brain turns to mush during the day.

Finished up the Ironfists and wandered off to Highcliff... this was purely by accident as the game freaked out on me and once again, I couldn't read any of the text. Saved and reloaded, everything's happy... until I have to battle Batha. We're victorious, they all leave and suddenly my companions are firing spells at air. Literally, there's nothing there. Then suddenly, Batha reappears; however, companions can do no damage and my main behaves as if he's not there... and yet, there he is on-screen smashing things but doing no damage. WTF?

This "ghosting" has happened a couple of times before. (The last being outside Jerro's haven when Shandra is fighting something that I simply cannot see. The other companions don't react either. It was very odd. Although, she did get XP points, so maybe it was the Jerro bloodline and she saw something that no one else could?) This game is a buggy mess.

Bad Battles. Very Bad Battles.

And where were we closest to wipe-out? Saved only by Qara still among the living? Where Annoying Midget took us & found the invisible instrument! Could. Not. Wait. to get rid of him. Never again.

Shadow Reavers are tough. Compounded by fact I cannot tell if the True Names Scroll is being cast, interrupted, or completed even when I'm controlling the caster. [Image Can Not Be Found]

If you haven't gotten there yet, you'll have a chance to revisit the Gem Mine. Although by then, it'll almost be too late to matter.

When the sword is forged (mine is), which do you think we should wield: Destructificator or Silver Sword? Alas, only the Sword will kill the King of Shadows.

My Keep is done, time for battle but before I say so I'm wondering if it'll help the cause to upgrade every companion in whatever equipment I can buy. What are you going to do? This preparation makes me scared of what's ahead.

The way the endgame seems to be progressing, I may not make it through to the credits. As I recall, same thing happened in NWN. Could not defeat the dragons & what all else once the door closed behind me (and party?) and couldn't exit. I will keep on keeping (in my Keep [Image Can Not Be Found]) till I can't go on no more. But promise, I will quit if it looks like my (Yap's) skills are no match for whatever we must do to "win."

I haven't played in a couple of days and won't until tomorrow (Friday) night so I'm still in Highcliff where I'll have to re-interview Batha and hope the game doesn't freak out again.

Was the bad battle during the hunt for the Wendersnaven? (How is it I can remember that particularly odd name?) The times I've had Gnomehands in the group I've not had too much difficulty... although, now that I think about it, I don't think he's tagged along since getting the Destructificator. Not being able to use that during the meet-up with the Shadow King will not be pleasant.

If this end-game is anything like DA:O, I would make sure the companions were wearing and carrying decent gear. It will make a difference (if not here, there. [Image Can Not Be Found] )

Yes, that's the place. The problem in my case was an orc shaman imobilized me for most of the battle – stuck, frozen in place (feared?). I'm guessing I wasn't the only one. That left anyone immune or who could remove the curse/spell left all alone. I was so busy trying to move before we all died that I didn't notice who else was stuck.

I read ahead. [Image Can Not Be Found] Not good news. [Image Can Not Be Found] Is it too late to become BFF with everyone? [Image Can Not Be Found]

So far, combat has been so manageable that I haven't learned how to click frantically on casts, action bar abilities, those icons lower rt. screen. I am due to pay dearly for my ignorance.

OK, I will equip to the best of my funds but that means making decisions based on D&D stats …. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I am almost positive your game troubles are due to your less than optimum hardware. Here at home the game plays as smooth(ly) as margarine. At the lake, after 2-3 hrs. the game begins to show signs of complaining.  Feels like either system or video ram needs to be "emptied" so I shut down the game and re-start. (E7500 dual core, 2 gb ram, ati 4850 w/ 512 vram)

Well, I lied: played a little bit last night.

Tried the Lizardmen quest again and had the same thing happen. We defeat Batha, he decides he doesn't want to talk to us anymore, they leave and yet my companions continue to fight non-existant enemies. Reload… all the way back to just after finishing Ironfist. (Forgot to save [Image Can Not Be Found]) Redo some things around Castle McKreepy and head off to the Mere. Maybe I'm doing things out of order (which wouldn't be out of character for me)?

Engage crazy druids. Head back to McKreepy and notice that Bishop has mysteriously disappeared. How odd. Reload Mere. Engage crazy druids. Save. Back at McKreepy and Bishop is gone… OH! He's supposed to just go without so much as a by-your-leave. Jackass (him) & idiot (me).

Swap out Bishop for Roaming Gnome (I don't care what you say, I like him. He makes me laugh.[Image Can Not Be Found]) head to Port Llast to chat up those two weird little people. (That was a very bizarre conversation. I think the devs were really high when they wrote that bit of script.) Anyway, we head to the "strange clearing" to find the poet's journal and a supposed magical instrument (I opted for the X-files response – "I want to believe.") as we leave we're suddenly attacked by orcs… with a freakin' shaman who casts… something that freezes me to the spot! I have to say, if it weren't for Petco, Snotty Q and Roaming Gnome I'd have been orc stew. They saved my scrawny butt! And none of them were frozen, only me. Found an ore deposit and told the surly miner. We're having a bit of a rest, now.

With regard to my specs: the only thing that's really "old" is my vid card with only 128mb RAM, but I over compensate with 3g system RAM. That's been my MO for years and it works fairly well. I hope I can figure out the issue with Batha; otherwise, it's curtains.

Yup, that's the place – glued to the spot by orcs. Makes me very scared about the endgame battles.

Almost 3 hrs to semi-equip everyone & still missing boots, hats & belts for some. Hateful doesn't begin to describe the experience. For example, Annoying Midget leveled 7 times & has (still) *no* equipment but default.

I am ready to commence the Final final Battle at the Keep. [Image Can Not Be Found] With full intentions to reload a save before I tell Neville we're ready about 3-4 mini-combats ago. Then try to equip the group even better before going onward again.

I'll look up Batha while you're at work, see if I can find anyone reporting similar problems. I'll be sorry you have to quit but relieved that I can also & don't have to fight the last of the battles. I've already gotten my money's worth from the game so I don't mind.

Oh, something else. Saves are moved from house to house for weekends & old saves deleted. Are all your saves loading in the game? NWN2 has the biggest saves of any game I've ever played – last night eleven saves zipped to 802 MB!

Another post for Batha.

Oh-oh, post by Obsidian dev about game-stopping bug: Batha. No solution though. Need a lizard for end conversation & sometimes he dies in battle.

I will edit when I find more.

Edit: Here's a discussion & some suggestions which don't always work. You're already playing on Easy. What about *not* using Intimidate? (I'm assuming you are). Or anything beyond simple talking.  If Lizardmen won't ally so what, at least you can continue.

You could send me a save, I try to load & get past the battle. The problem being size of the save via email.

Thanks for looking, Yap. I just knew it was a bug based on the behaviour.

What's interesting is that the problems described are not exactly my problem – companions continuing to fight Batha even when he's not appearing on-screen – but it's probably the same thing as there are no Lizardmen left after beating him… which means he's killed off everyone with that AoE spell.

I'm *not* using intimidate as I don't have any points in it. I tried diplomacy the first time and the second time I don't think I used any conversation skills… although, at this point I'm really only clear on trying diplomacy the first time. I'll attempt it one more time this weekend after I've done Vale de Merdelaine.

If you're ready to end the pain, feel free. Like you, I've gotten my buck-fifty from this game and if I don't finish it won't be the first, nor the last game I don't complete. [Image Can Not Be Found] (truth to tell, I'm about ready to end it myself)

*edit: Saves - yep, all my saves are loading. I have some stupidly huge number of them; however, I did notice that the newer ones started taking a while to load, so I started over-writing the really old ones and have had no problems.

Pisser. [Image Can Not Be Found]

On the other hand, means I can try to fight the good fight & if I'm a failure? I don't have to try any more than once. [Image Can Not Be Found] I'll look up the end on YouTube. (I love YouTube for impossible endgame boss battles).

Non-sequitorial factoid: I thought of you last night when taking out my third string to equip their sorry selves. What a party: Silent Construct, Sarcastic Bishop, Yammering Midget & Whiny Goatgirl. I could not have played this game with that party. [Image Can Not Be Found]

hahahahahahahahaha!

If I'd had to travel with Sarcastic Bishop the entire time, I'd have had Q set him on fire. That right there would have been woth the price of admission.

I'll soldier on a bit longer as I want to see the denouement to Q's dust-up with the Academy. I've not seen anything about that in simply ages... or look for it on Youtube. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Success!

Apparently, I've been playing on Normal all this time! (I could swear I'd set it to Easy when I first began) Setting the game back a notch and then talking to Batha did the trick. How the hell did that get missed in QA? I now have lizardmen on my side.

Met Sydney and turned her henchman against her along with setting fire to Q's doppelganger.

I'm in the dragon valley... talked to the dragon spirit, confronted two dragons near the heart. The heart showed up once with the combat option; however, after offing the dragons the heart is just something to look at... like ore after you've "mined" it. And my journal won't update.

I'll see if there's a solution for this. What a pain in the ass!
