Originally, I thought I needed to have the spells on the hotbar, but I've come to the conclusion that as long as the spells I want are memorized they'll use them. I do have lots of spells in the hotbar, but now that's only if I take control of them… which is something I rarely do. I have all my spell-casters set up to follow from a far distance and, I think, the only other change I made was that they ramp up their spells based on the situation. The default is "balls to the walls" with no regard for saving a high-powered spell for something bigger if we don't rest in between engagements. (I'm fairly sure that's not what the option is called, but you get my drift. [Image Can Not Be Found])

I'll try to remember to double check when I'm home tonight.

I've yet to use the elemental ball because I forget that I have it. Maybe I'll use it on Lorne during the duel, if I have that option.

I'd planned to stop playing long before I did last night, but I got caught up in the trial which is cut scene + conversation options and it ran longer than I expected.

Forgot to answer: yes, you need Petco in the goblin caves attached to the well.

How's your inventory management coming along in this game, Yap?

I'm just as bad with hoarding inventory. I'm always at a loss of what to keep/sell/swap. Trying to navigate the freakin' nuances of D&D rules makes my head expode, so I opt for pretty... and expensive. I figure the more coin I receive if I sell it the better it must be and being female, "the pretty" is a given.

I can't tell you how many times I've picked something up only to have Karma moan that she can't move. Then it's a matter of which of my companions can I foist it off on until we run across a merchant... or a safe place to drop it for later.

I do have to echo Yap's complaint about not being able to swap out items - while lounging about in the Flagon (camp) - unless a companion is in your party. That's just beyond stupid. I'm glad Bioware learned this lesson and fixed it in DA:O.

@ xtal: HORRIBLE(Y), thank you so much for asking. [Image Can Not Be Found] My strategy is "fluck" crafting! and making potions! and enchanting! Sell Everything! Only saving grace is I'm playing a brutish fighter who can carry tons.

Starting to experience bugs.

Bug #1 During the trial when the game dehatted us? My head became a black helmet placeholder but I figured it's only a short time, I can deal with looking at my ugly self. Tonight I tried to take off my hat – no deal, same black helmet-head.  Guess I'm stuck wearing a stupid totally inappropriate Austrailian Bush Hat (no offence Aussies) for the duration. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Bug #2 I'm currently stuck in Crossroads Keep and cannot get out. Vale does diddly about teleporting us out & won't climb the stairs. We cannot exit doors due to Vale still being downstairs. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Besides the above, much to my surprise I am thoroughly enjoying the game. A storyline to follow (beyond whack this! go whack that!) and  interesting companions (I really like Sharon & Shorty D). Doable combat when on Easy wielding The Destructificator. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Oh, and Toger! I use the very same method of evaluating equipment. Something worth 10000 *must* be better than something worth a mere 6849, right? Whether or not a character is better served equipping said 10000 item is another matter altogether.

This game just keeps getting better & better. My very own castle. With my very own serfs to boss around. Awwww....

Figured out what prevented our exiting the Keep. Reloaded a save just after the battle when Vale & two (very close to death) buds were still standing around. After looting the loot, I returned to tell Vale it was time to go. Unfortunately, by then the buds had died from their wounds. More unfortunately, Vale is programmed to talk with a bud before he teleports us out. But, there were no buds still alive so he & we were stuck in a bug. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Bow down before me plebes! I own this here Castle Kreepy (in keeping with the actual initials of the place)!

ahem

Your only bug was having your head turn to a black blot? My bugs to date: text on the buttons to level up and save/load files turns to mush and are unreadable. Levelling up was based on memory of "next" and "recommend". Praise be the saves/loads have pictures included so I could tell that I wasn't saving or loading the wrong file; after defeating Garius the screen suddenly starts spinning in a rapid 360 and would. not. stop. It had done that once before somewhere else, but I was able to stop it after a minute. This time, I was truly getting nauseous and had to kill the game. Reload, re-battle, everything is peachy-keen.

I did the same thing with Vale - tried to leave without him - a couple of times during that raging battle, I probably smacked a couple of Vale's men because I couldn't tell them from the bad guys with all the freakin' spells flying about. I apologized later. And constantly fighting with that damn camera doesn't help.

Shit, I'm going to have to go back to the goblin caves to pick up some needed item if I want my own golem. They won't be happy to see me at all. I wonder if I can get in/get out through the Duskwood door? I wonder if I already have said item? I'll have to throughly check my inventory.

Yap, when you finally get around to playing DA:O, you will recognize some story elements that appear to have been lifted whole-cloth from NWN2.

I left off with the Gith (not to be confused with the yanki gith) woman having joined our little soiree. Once I've checked out Castle Keepy, the first person I'll recruit to my lair will be Deekin! He needs a place to hawk his wares.

Oh! Oh! I knew we kept talking w/ Deekin for a reason but it didn't click why!

Scaly-skin Lady w/ the mask & refined voice has said her foreverlong piece & joined my party. She can heal, right? I stopped after the Keep was mine & she talkity-talked. Some kid (camera so pulled back it coulda been anyone short) teleported us to the courtyard but I haven't moved a step to investigate. Only so much I can absorb.

Alas, DA:O cannot be my next game. Another party needing micromanagement will send me over the edge. Returning to Fallout 3 + DLC + mods is a better choice. Then, finally DA:O, bought Week One.

My NWN2 runs very smoothly but I'm guessing due to much higher specs than your Elderly Alien. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yeah, my Alien beast is getting long in the tooth; however, with my enormous backlog I'm in no hurry to upgrade.

I stopped at the exact same place you did. Damn that woman can talk in circles and say a lot of nothing.

Remember the kids you helped out? (Little girl caught stealing, little boy accosted by one of the Luskan thugs) The one named Wolf who said he appreciated your coming to the urchins' rescue and took up residence in the Flagon (only you never really saw them)? The kid who told you Algernon (who is the epitome of the absent-minded professor) wanted to see you? That's who teleported you to the courtyard at Castle Kreepy.

Deekin will have a place in Kreepy, as will the miners in Old Owl Well and the "artist" in Port Llast. I'm trying to remember if anyone else is just hanging around waiting for a "patron"... I think there's a guy in Soggy Bottom (or whatever the name of our original village is) who wants out, too.

Did I really say Yay! we have our own Keep to micromanage????

I am sooo not good at this. Miners, ore, sergeant, shopkeeper, blacksmiths, upgrades, walls, training....now we need a combat break!

Don't think I'm going to bother with Mr. Replicant as I'm a fighter & the party is so limited in size. Loathe as I am to type this, wish we had a party of 6. Fighter, fighter, fighter + Qara + 1 is great at survival but so lacking in diversity. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I've got miners, a farmer and Deekin. I've got Kana training soldiers - opted for not-quite-the-best she could find. We've repaired the merchant's shop, the west wing and made some improvements to roads and fortifications. We just told Mr Obsequious Builder to fix the Blacksmith... now I just need to find one. Did you keep the guy lurking in the corner of the main hall? Unctous or something similar. I told him to piss off. Oh, and spidey is holed up in the basement :shiver:

This is very similar to the Awakenings expansion for DA:O but this one is much more micro-manage-y. I prefer the hands off approach of DA. And don't forget tithing!

We've found two items for the construct - I don't think we really need it, but I want it because it's shiny. [Image Can Not Be Found]

On our way to Port Llast to pick up the miner there, we had a random encounter with some bounty hunters: the gith woman was face-down in the dirt in a heartbeat. She'll be fun dragging around later. [Image Can Not Be Found]  I should probably tell the miners about all the ore deposits I've found previously as the way this is headed, I'm sure I'll need it for my soldiers.

Just finished the Gem Mines. Loved it all, especially the voice acting. I wonder how many voice actors are in this game? Or if they are simply that good at multi-voicing. Why oh why couldn't Oblivion (or Morrowind) have done VO so well.

Kept Mr Shady U-guy in the corner. If you can help me build this place & won't charge me a cent, you're in!

Tithing is done by talking to Kana. I haven't done it yet because Castle McKreepy is still in a state of disarray. I want to get the roads fixed a bit more so that I get more merchants/peasants/people on walk-a-abouts travelling through.

Whew. Finished Act II. Wow. The transition (in which I still am) is cram-bam jam-packed with happenings.

Funny story: in the final battle, Qara fell dead in a fire pool. Every time she would rez with 1 HP, she instantly died again. Over & over & over....no heal would fix her. Thank the Gods she appeared again, none the worse for wear, after our final teleport out.

I've fallen behind as I've been mucking about with Castle McKreepy. I've built it up just about as much as I can for the moment. I sent some adventurers off on some odd little mission (they sent a report back); then sent two greycloaks to protect a village from bandits. That last bit was ill-advised as reports came back that everyone died. oops. The Old Owl Well miner has gotten uppity. He tried to leave and I was able to convince him to stay, but he's become quite surly. I suppose killing him is out of the question? [Image Can Not Be Found] I've got a mess o' farmers working the land and it appears I've some sort of revenue stream, but from where is a mystery.

I'm working my way through the statues for the purification ritual. I've done Rivendale (that crazy Rib-smasher guy was a hoot. He was even smashing up chests) and left off in the Temple of Seasons.

Only reason I've progressed so far is by playing on & off on Sat. from noon to midnight. Something I haven't done since playing WoW. All thanks go to you for starting this game and dragging me along with you. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Miners & Ore. [Image Can Not Be Found]

They would do nuthin' & so blacksmiths wouldn't upgrade although I'd clicked on 4-5 ore spots before getting the Keep. Went back, reclicked on ore in caverns via the Well. Everyone happy, weaps & armor each upgraded twice (I think). Now nuthin'. Went back to another ore spot (I think two ogre areas are gone from our travel map), clicked & returned to miners – nuthin. Maybe I outdistanced my other Keep upgrades & must wait for Act III?

I am very selective about upgrades (which may turn around & bite me in the butt).

Keep interior – Nothing (no rooms)

Courtyard (Deekin merchant, 2 blacksmiths)

Fortifications (2 x walls)

Farms 0

Roads 1

Best of best recruits -> trained, trained….just sent out to recruit

Weapons & armor – 2 upgrades each

What so impresses me about this game is a well-designed money sink just about when one is accumulating more funds than needed for necessities. WoW adds a Mammmoth Mount @ 20,000 g for purchase at lvl 40. NWN2 adds our very own Keep with gold-sucking upgrades. Is there any comparison?

I probably should have trained the men more before sending them out to defend that village... live (or die) and learn. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I've done the entire Keep - I think part of the contruct quest is restoring the library so that Algernon will tell you to keep an eye out for a specific book about golems and the Shadow King; courtyard is done except for the church - we even have a tower; fortifications are done for the nonce (or so Obsequious Builder says so); roads improved to the max (again for the nonce) and I've done 2-3 upgrades for armour (I think we're at actual metal now). Oh wait, now that I think about it something for the road is still undone as I was just short of the 50K needed.

You mean I'll have to go back to some of those places and re-click on the ore deposits? Well, that's just stupid considering how many you come across before even getting the Keep!

Did I mention the band o' pixies that tried to waylay our travels? I mean, really... a band o' pixies?! They wanted my gold and clothes (!); however, when I told them they'd have to pry it from my cold, dead hands they ran off.

Oh, oh. Once I get out of where I am which could take a while, better get crackin' on my upgrades. Don't want to be labeled at that Keep responsible for bringing down property values in the neighborhood.

You have figured out (yes?) that time passes & upgrades finish by simply exiting & re-entering an area. Hope I have sufficient funds.

Another reason I like this game so much is I haven't died since getting The Destructificator. Not even close. And my team, whether it's Tony K's AI mod or default, does just fine without my input. As long as I forgive their sometimes running off to aggro mobs they have sensed down halls, inside rooms, around corners. I forgive them because they fight so well regardless.

Act 3 and hell's a-popping!

What is Bishop on about with that whole conversation with Caviar? He does like stirring the pot, doesn't he? Will my alignment take a nose dive if I punch in the 'nads? I'm suspicious of everyone, now. Including Nevalle. It's rather convenient he makes me go to Neverwinter alone and suddenly there's an attack on Nasher.

So now I have glow-face in my party instead of Shandra. Girlfiriend went out with about 80K worth of gear. If I'd known ahead of time, I'd have stripped her bare! The demons taunting each other was entertaining.

Yap, when you do get around to playing DA:O you will recognize many, many plot points.

*edit - I hate this software. That is all.

Hell's a-popping is right. You're ahead of me again. Worked on my Keep last night but stopped early due to a) burnout from playing so many hours on Sat. and b) total pisshood at the ore situation.  By my account, the miners have gone out to mine exactly once. One frigging time & I can't (seem to) get back to any of the nodes from Act II.

I'd been spoilered about Shandra [Image Can Not Be Found] but I didn't spoil it for you. She's been my absolute fav, so level-headed. I never take out Caviar or Bishop although I love their banter. Too bad I don't like their skills. Perm party members seem to be: Lizard Lady, Qara & Shorty D + anyone required for plots.

Somewhere I read - thus I did strip Shandra before we went into Iforgetthenameoftheplace - that her gear is returned to you in a trunk. Trouble is, I forget where. [Image Can Not Be Found] Is there a trunk next to Glow-Face in the Keep? I forgot to look last night.

I'm going to branch off into Bioshock 2 as my brain is getting overloaded keeping track of plot points & npcs & gear. Never fear, will play both simultaneously.

hmm, I don't think I looked to see if there was a chest near Glow-face. I got distracted by Nevalle and now that I'm back at the Keep I haven't had a chance to look around as Dadgum showed up with news of the Mere just as I was headed into the Inn. If Shandra's stuff is back, that'll be nice as I can sell it all off. I'll miss her.

I'm the same with the ore situation and that miner is surly as hell. I went back to Ember to see if I could reinvigorate them and it was a no go. I can't upgrade my greycloaks' gear again until I find a new ore vein. Stupid game.

My perm members seem to be Snotty Q, Lizard Lady and Petco + whoever I need to drag along. There are times, there's so many spell effects I can't see what I'm supposed to be hitting! The succubi in Jerro's tower were upset there weren't any males in my group. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Since invoking the Destructificator, I've only died once - when they swapped out my gear for that stupid ceremonial crap and I didn't notice until just before I fell face down. That was quite annoying to say the least.

And herding those ghosts in the gem mine was like herding cats what with turning all those glow lights off and on.
