Toger, here is a hintal suggestion of vague proportions. I think, maybe, you have foe killing info in a book?

Much like goblets where I seem to own another besides the Havest Cup. Likewise, somewhere I've picked up some books. One of them mentioned (as I skimmed with no intent of retention) something about weapon this does damage against something while weapon that is good against something else. I filed this precise info away to learn on an as-needed basis.  Like now. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Also, I'm using GameBanshee's wt & maps.

Thanks for info on team-splitting. I need the same info on item stacks. Like giving some but not all healing flasks to Shorty D. Finally saw a splitting option while selling at the fort but that doesn't me divvy up resources.

Gotta reinstall & patch at the other house computer (w/ lower specs) tonight. If all goes well & saves load smoothly, I shall return. Much to be said about playing mmorpgs while dual-housing.

What?!  They made KOTOR II, the best game 3V3R! I'll kill you! I'll kill all of you!! Die, raptor-fiend!!!

And KotOR II was a bug-ridden embarassment! I'm still waiting for the fan project that fixes said bugs so I can play it. And yes, I am a fiend.

Item-splitting: right-click the item and you'll get the ubiquitous menu box. One of the options will be split; it will conveniently split things exactly in half if you have even numbers of said thingie. You can also change the number.

I know I found and kept books for alchemy/weapon making/enchanting (enchantment? enchantment! sorry, DA moment). I've also got a Shadow Priest's journal, but I don't seem to recall an enemy managerie-type book. Unless it was in some overlooked chest in Daeghun's house. I didn't go back to check it after he essentially booted me out of the village with the shard. I, too, have a second goblet, damned if I know where I picked it up.

I miss the random chests/boxes/crates to open from original NWN.

I'll check out gamebanshee's guide. I like the one from gamepressure.

*edit: somewhere in the dark recesses of my mind a thought pushed through the murk: right-click on enemies to learn about them.

No, no: KotOR II was a bug-ridden awesome-fest.

And I think Team Gizka finished that restoration project this summer or last. I followed it for about 4 years … after a while I stopped caring and realized I'd just live with my fond memories of that broken yet beloved (to some of us!) and misunderstood game.

I played KoTOR II after giving up waiting (but ironically just before the restoration project was finished). Instead I used a graphics mod & some other tweaks that I can't remember. My character froze & locked - continuously. [Image Can Not Be Found] Combat would commence, and continue with damage dealing, all while I stood like a statue. Only way to unstick was hard shutdown & restart the game. Over & over & .... Also, I didn't like playing the character I had created: a boring lass with a perfectly boring personality.

On about planet #2 (just after meeting Mr. Purplehead with the Distinguished Accent) when my team was surrounded by swarms of baddies in a hopelessly unbalanced fight, I gave up. Something I've done with only a handful of games. It was such a disappointment as I so loved KoTOR (another Bollocks play w/ Jen, Toger (?), me & I think Scout). Maybe someday I'll try again with the restoration mod, maybe we can group try after NWN2?

NWN2 is installed, 57 minutes to patch & I'm off now to see if the saves load. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yap: Don't want to but willl probably have to install alien unknown mods to make this bearable.

I didn't realize the restoration project has finished. I was sorta, kinda, not really watching it and then I forgot. I'll have to look into after NWN or even later.

Well, I kept getting my ass handed to me in the Tomb of the Betrayers - even went up against Fenthick and only succeeded in literally chasing his ghost around a room while arrows were fired from statues - so I reverted back to an earlier save. I'll come back to the Tombs later.

Joined the City Watch in order to get into Blacklake; which is once again, locked down tighter than a chastity belt. I attempted to join Caleb's group of thugs but he wasn't exactly inviting. Plus I figure I'd have to do dasterdly deads to get in good with him and we can't have that. I've spent the last few hours (almost 3 now) running around the Docks and Merchant area doing "good" deeds in order to get the Captain of the Watch to let me into Blacklake. This woman just keeps taking and taking and taking! I cleaned up the docks for her and now she wants me to shut down a smuggling ring! When will it all end? [Image Can Not Be Found] In the meantime, I've met up with an annoyingly bitchy sorceress (shades of Morrigan) and the girl is on fire. Literally. I swapped her for the insipidly eco-friendly Druid and we're all the better for it. Now I just have to work on getting her to heal us and she'll be perfect. I suppose I could dump either Shorty D or Needless, but Shorty D pulls his weight and Needless is handy with lockpicks. Too bad I can't turn in my familiar for another companion.

Game working…all except the damned Rt. Click option. I've been trying to give orders as my team ran willy nilly into the bandits' rooms & that was a mess. Unfortunately, when told to Follow Me, after we are face-to-face with enemies both Needless & Shorty D stand around asking, "Should I fight? Should I fight?" Hells yes, you stupid heads! Meanwhile, I'm furiously right clicking, trying to bring up that damnable drop-down so I can order them to fight! All while enemies are pounding on me (not fighting but rt. clicking on myself [Image Can Not Be Found]) and pounding on my worthless comrades. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I must address this mouse issue before I continue.

Going to try 2 mods that accomplish the same thing in different ways. One makes the mini map larger, the other makes the world map smaller. Hoping to replace this mostly worthless miniscule map we're currently using.

Hey Toger, did you know that now that disk checks are removed via patches we can play without the dvd in the drive? If you didn't, you know now. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Is there really someone called "Needless" and "Shorty D" in NWN 2?

Good gracious, Neverwinter Nights may just hold my record for the Game-started-longest-ago-that-I-still-intend-to-finish title. I started NWN, much later than most, in 2006 and stopped in the autumn of 2007, when I got a new computer. I emailed myself my save files to resume on my new computer. Since that time I've got another new computer, and those NWN save files are the oldest item in my inbox. I think I'm on chapter 3? Yes, I'm quite certain of that actually.

It's funny, while generally being a bland experience I was still drawn into the world of Neverwinter and have just been struggling to go back to it for a few years now. If NWN 2 had received more positive reviews on the technical side I might have hurried up to slay the first game. But...perhaps there is time yet.

On KotOR II, I failed to mention that I played it on Xbox, which was, from what I remember, a better experience than when I played it (rather briefly) on PC; which in itself is odd because I was infatuated with KotOR on PC. But I'm not making excuses, I, perhaps embarrassingly so, unabashedly adore Knights II. It's hard to explain why.

Xtal, you're new to Bollocks as a spectator sport as played by the FFC crowd. More specifically, our fractured nomenclature.

Can't remember when it started but we all went with the flow – that being none of us remember faux-fantasy names or places. Tom & Joe? Based in LAX or Paris? No problems. But call a character Phyxcvrtis and put her in Cryyghrising and I'm sorry but none of us can talk about her accurately. So we rename. Some renames stick first time, some take a few tries before the right one is typed. Our most memorable (for me) was Eleanor who began life as the male lead in …damnation! I forgot the name of the game! And I'm not home to check my disks! Help me out here Toger, please.

Anyway, we still mention dear ole block-headed (pixel-challenged) Eleanor from time to time. He was such a joy to play that we continued the custom.

Shorty D =Khelgar Ironfist the dwarf with a stature-based chip on his shoulder

Needless = Neeshka, wearing leather & wielding a tiny dagger, who runs ahead & aggros mobs before the team arrives

Fifth Disciple! I loved that game! Gods, we butchered all the names in that and then went on to butcher the original NWN. It was quite hilarious as we always knew who we were talking about.

Yap, you know I thought I could play without the disc as I'd fired it up one day thinking the disc was already in the drive. When I realized the disc was sitting on the desk in front of my, I scurried to slap it into the drive never thinking the game was gonna run without it. Good to know as now I can put it back in the box and only have the manual out for handy reference (handy if you like paging through 150+ pages looking for information. [Image Can Not Be Found]

I weep for your right-click issues. Me, I forget to pause.

Thank you! I had 5 or Five or Fifth in my mind but couldn't come up with more.

Rt. click issues not fixed (options tweaked, haven't yet tried in combat) but I have installed two mods!

1. Minimap is now square.

2. Tony K's A.I seems to be installed too – behavior tabs have more options*. As do rt.click drop downs on weapons. I can enable weapon-swapping & what & when, and other stuff that got too complicated so I went off to fry potatoes instead. [Image Can Not Be Found] I didn't try rt. click in combat due to watching (thru clouds of green poisionous diease) as my party started w/ ranged & switched to melee in the crypt….all by themselves. Way to go, team! Thank you, Tony K!

* although this may be a mirage as I didn't really understand how to install his mod using a folder. Can you swap weapons and designate which ones, & what distance to do it? If not, the mod is working. [Image Can Not Be Found]

EDIT: almost forgot, the book! It's the one about exotic weapons. Iron+blessed w/good->demons, alchemical silver+bl. w/g.->devils, adamantine->iron golem, iron->fey creatures. Is that info useful?

Which mod makes the mini-map square? I could definitely use that. Having to bring up the larger map is tedious, although it's much easier to wind my way through the streets of Neverwinter and warehouses using the larger map (*looking at larger map* go left at next crossroad, straight on 'til morning)

The book may be one of those for crafting of weapons and such. Something I've yet to do. Shorty D can craft weapons, but I needed to wait until I found a sorceror(ess) with alchemy skills to enchant them. I have her, just haven't made the time or allocated the points to do any crafting.

I don't think you can designate when to swap weapons, but I did read somewhere (manual perhaps?) that you can drop weapons on top of each other and then swap them out. I haven't figured that part out yet. I keep getting wrapped up in the quests and forgetting to do other things… like upgrade to better weapons!

I've also found that I can chat up my companions while out and about by (wait for it) right click and hold on their avatar! I don't have to wait until we're back at Duncan's. This game is all about the right-click isn't it?

That damnable Captain B has sent us on another of her "help the Watch, we're so low on money and equipment and trust-worthy watchman, you're our only hope" quests. Now I have to escort some snitch across to HQ. Luckily, the estate isn't far. Unluckily, it's crawling with thugs who materialize out of thin air. Apparently, they're in stealth mode until they're right up on us. Being mobbed by something I can't see isn't as fun as you'd think.

We took back the warehouse full of smuggled weapons. I was getting mobbed there as well, so I'd send Needless off by her lonesome in stealth mode, attack one guard and then run hell-bent for leather back to where the rest of us were lying (laying?) in wait. It took a good 30 minutes to clear out that section of warehouse so I could get to the guy lobbing grenades at us, but it worked!

I think before I take on the rest of this manor house (only done one room), I'm off to find a bow as I seem to have sold mine and we could use a little more ranged attacks. Kara-with-a-Q is really good at lobbing spells from waaaay in the back, but there are times we need a little archery help. Just hope I haven't closed that door completely by going with dual wield.

*edit: I found the mod for making the mini-map square. I've opted for the smaller big map by the same guy.

Needless has begun to channel Tomi in that she runs off during combatto engage someone/thing far off down the hall and ends up a smear on the floor. I've altered her behaviour to have her only attack when things are near, told her to stick close to me all to no avail. I've even dropped Barkskin potions in her pack which she'll immediately quaff then run off. Stupid goat girl.

We've finally cleared the first floor of the snitch's house. The second floor is more of the same – assassins mobbing us and Needless running off – I stopped at the top of the stairs as I was getting frustrated. Tried invoking god mode only to have the floor turn a neon green and not be able to leave the hallway where I invoked the cheat. And this is on easy! [Image Can Not Be Found]

I was going to ask if your Goatgirl dies all the time. Mine sure does. I'd dump her asap if she couldn't pick locks & disable traps.

As you'll notice, I like the riff on Goat. Goatgirl is so many letters to type, Ggirl is too neutral. With her attitude, I want the goat to show.

Finally met the druid Petco w/ the name too close to Needles (aka Needless).

Sooo glad you tried god mode. I made it thru the graveyard but if this game ramps up in annoying mobs, I must quit, gift myself some uber weapon or become invincible. If there's nothing but area after area with massive mobs, I'll leave (usually sooner than later). Except NWN2 happens to have a storyline, unlike DS2.

Yes, Goatgirl dies all the time. She's become a real pain. However, if I use her as bait to draw one or two thugs back to the rest of us while in stealth mode, she's good for that and can actually survive. To be honest, I've been using "recommend" to assign points for companions and I think that's a mistake. I noticed that her CON is really low (so's her INT, but she's a thief and doesn't really need it), so the next time she gets a point to assign, it's going into CON to help keep her butt alive just a hair longer.

Oooo, I love Petco for the eco-terrorist Druid. She's so "earthy" I wanna slit my wrists.

We finally made it through the upper level of the snitch's house. It wasn't so much the mobbing as the ones who'd literally de-cloak behind you and join the fray. The method of using Goatgirl to sneak up and smack one or two, then run back to where we waited worked. Slow going, but it beats the alternative. I found that if GG and ShortyD ran off to engage more, I could broadcast "follow me" and they'd come back to where I was fighting. That worked, but GG-as-bait worked better.

We've been sent off to find some emissary. I swapped out ShortyD for Petco and had an all-girl party until we happened to meet the incredibly tiny Gnomehands. That's his name, I kid you not. I think he's even smaller than ShortyD as he only comes up to my waist. He's a bard. And the first story he told us literally put us to sleep! The man just drones on and on and on. We're supposed to find the emissary and some Orc named Bonegnasher.

People from the Magic Academy continue to harass us/Kara-with-a-Q. She's a snotty bitch, but she's an amazing sorceress.

In the meantime, I haven't been back to the Temple of Betrayers, but now that I've got some magical back-up I think it'll be easier than the first time I tried it. If nothing else, Kara-with-a-Q can fry them.

*edit - I'm with you on the mobbing. If it ramps up more than what I encountered in the thief's house, I'm done if I can't find a suitable god-mode.

And for the record: Petco needs to consider foundation garments. Girlfriend has been living in the woods too long and the "girls" have suffered for it. I don't care how intuned with nature you are... if  they've become one with your waist corrective measures are in order. Just sayin'.

If you have a mo', could you teach me how to use GG as stealth bait?

Decided to practive before we get to where she needs to be effective. So, I got her into stealth which made her slow but luckily we didn't have far to go. She crept up behind Corbain but instead of whacking him, started a conversation! Ooops. Guess it works better when there isn't a mandatory script.

Could you clarify the steps:

1. I must manually put her into stealth just before sending her off?

2. Tell the rest to stand their ground.

3. How do I get her to return to the group after she starts combat?

4. Once combat started I issued order for rest to jump on in. Do I do this once mobs are drawn back to us or will they auto fight?

All this for every encounter? In many rooms on multiple floors? [Image Can Not Be Found]

In WoW I usually pulled out one from a bunch, aggro'd a couple and separated them out, drew 'em away from the larger group & back where I could deal with them more safely (for me). In crpgs, I've never been able to do this that I can remember.

Next task is check watchtowers for corrupt guards.

Using GG as bait:

  1. Take control of GG and tell everyone else to stand their ground.
  2. Put GG in stealth mode than sneaky-sneak off to find an unsuspecting target.
  3. Whack 'em upside the head. Once.
  4. Pause (I've discovered "pause" is my friend). Turn off stealth mode.
  5. Unpause and run for all you're worth back to where everyone else is chillin'
  6. At this point, I usually pause again to take control of my main, then broadcast "attack nearest". That way, everyone beats on the same enemy.
  7. Repeat as needed.

So far, I've only had to do that for the... (runs off to find name of quest) Protect the Watch's Informant quest. The problem, for me, with that quest was the de-cloaking of numerous assassins joining in combat while I'm already dealing with 4 or 5 readily visible thugs. If I'm battling 4 or 5 and suddenly 3 materialize to join in the "fun" it was too much for me.

I started using that method in the warehouse (quest given just prior to the above) because the rooms were open and once combat began with three thugs, four more would run from another room to join up. I was getting hammered. Hard. I admit that my usual strategy of just wading into combat wasn't the best of strategies, but that's how I roll.

We've been sent off to find a missing emissary at some well out in the boonies. Said boonies are also dealing with Orcs. We met up with some of ShortyD's relatives and opted to help open up the way to an old clanhold where a tribe of Bugbears had taken over. (Since when do Bugbears talk?!!) The combat with the Bugbears was much easier compared to the nonsense in the informant's house. I was able to make it all the way to the clanhold without killing off the entire party. (This is one of those "forced to take a specific party member" quests) Once inside, Shorty D ran off and engaged a couple of overly large... somethings that we weren't ready to deal with and killed the whole party. Upon reload, I took more (better) control by making Shorty D focus on one target at a time (it's easier for me to pause, take control of that person, click once on a nearby target, then retake control of my main and unpause) that way he didn't run off and engage something he shouldn't. It's a pain when he opens up doors to other rooms and invites trouble.

We still have other things to do out in the boonies, but I decided to come back to Neverwinter for a bit of a respite.

Seems Snotty Q (Kara-with-a-Q) has made some serious enemies. This does not bode well.

Thank you! I am planning on sneaking in playtime today rather than waiting for nightfall. I want to advance closer to where you are.

Without having met her but based on your description, I think Snotty Q sounds about right.
