Oh, sorry Kay, I misunderstood your first post - I thought it was telling you the patch was the world version and you needed the US one. If you still want to try it, this one should work. Even if you play without Complete, you really want to patch the game. STALKER as originally released is very unstable.

Spike: when trading, be aware that the game does not separate items you've got equipped or are using, so be careful not to sell something you need! Also, most Stalkers won't trade anything other than basic ammo and food. You need actual traders for the good stuff. You'll have to depend on Sidorovich for the first chunk of the game, but later on you'll have access to faction traders, researchers, and some other merchants.

Those photos are kind of scary. Stay dry and stay safe.

Since my last post,   I discovered the patch for the worldwide version and have downloaded it.   I will Complete again and hopefully it will work this time.   Kay

The river level for this morning was scary-high, increasing hugely since yesterday.  Then they discovered that the guage was broken.  High-tech ain't always the best way.  Someone needs to dig out the old ruler-style guage.  So right now we don't know how high the river is, but our temporary levee is growing.  When the rain stops I'll go take some more photos.

In STALKER land, my 2 boars at the stash respawned.  I killed them, and now I have a pile of 4 dead boars.  I'm guessing a glitch, and that there will be 2 new ones each time I restart.  But that 3rd elusive boar doesn't show up, so I don't think I'll be able to finish that quest.

Last night I just wandered around just to see what I could see, with no real goal in mind.  Get the lay of the land, so to speak.  Got turned away at the railroad embankment with gun holstered.  Went back and shot the guard.  He had friends, and they killed me.  Slept a bit.  Traded with Wolf and Sidorvich.  Went into the tunnel under the railroad, got killed by an anomaly, I think.   Then just wandered some more trying to find the guy I need to find in/through the tunnel.

Right now I am more concerned with trading for the basics:  food and ammo.  The shotgun takes constant reloading.  The handguns (4 of em) are my best bet just now.  When I can I will buy a better gun.

Looking forward to playing later.  It will be time to head up north - south didn't work out so good for me.  Yet.  I think I'm gonna enjoy this game.  The most annoying thing is how long it takes to load the game with the Complete mod installed.

If you want to get past the army guys at the railroad...

Climb the hill on the right side and go around. There is an opening in the fence. Stay low though cause they can see and shoot you.

For some reason I don't seem to need to eat. Is this cause I'm playing on easy or is this from the complete mod?

I'm playing on easy (do they call it novice?  can't remember).  And have the Complete mod.   I need to eat.  I keep getting either the red or green fork-spoon icon, and when I eat it goes away.

Thanks for the spoiler, Armand.  I'm not going to read it just yet.  I've got one more thing I want to try.

I think I am almost good to go.  Downloaded the Worldwide Patch and installed.  Downloaded Complete and installed.   My old saves wouldn't work but that was ok since I was still right at the beginning.   But I am having performance problems with slow reactions to my commands.   It happens and then it stops happening and everything is great.   I have uninstalled a bunch of stuff to try to solve this.  So we shall see.

I have saved Nimble.  Or to be truthful,  I hung back and let the other Stalkers to the dirty work and then I went in and saved Nimble.   I have never been shy about being a coward.   I think I am liking this game.

So if I can just clear up the performance problems,  I am good to go.

The complete mod can make it a bit more taxing on your computer Kay. Maybe just try lowering the settings a bit?

As to my lack of hunger, it seems I just needed to sleep for the night, and suddenly I was plenty hungry!

Hey Steerpike, I currently have Shadow and Pripyat. Those are the first and third right? Should I play the other one, or is it not worth it?

I'm starting to get 1 to 2 second lag in places with the Complete mod. Usually when I leave a camp and enter the countryside. I've got an i5 system with a pretty decent video card so I'm guessing playing at nearly maxxed settings isn't going to work as well as I thought it would. The graphics are pretty stunning though I'm getting a lot of shimmer. I sort of like it but it makes seeing anomalies a bit harder, esp at night.

Most people would say it's not worth it, though there is now a Clear Sky Complete (and a Call of Pripyat Complete) available from the same dude.

I would disagree with most people. I liked Clear Sky. It had plenty of problems, sure but it introduced stuff I really enjoyed. The biggest drawback is that most of the regions are the same - Cordon, Garbage, Agroprom, Dark Valley. Of course, they're quite different than they are when you see them in Shadow of Chernobyl (Clear Sky's a prequel), but you'll know your way around.

Yep that is what is happening to me.   And then it all clears up.  I guess I need to look at settings also.

I was heading north to try the railway overpass/underpass again, and then go on towards Garbage and Agropom.  As I was walking I heard shooting.  Followed the sound.  Bad guys were again in the compound from which I rescued Nimble.  Killed them all and came out with gobs of stuff.  Better guns, food, ammo.  Lots to trade.  I guess this is a repeatable quest, which is good seeing as how I, a beginner, have little good stuff. After a break I'll continue heading north.

Edit:  I stashed some of my loot in the blue trunk near the fire in Wolf's camp.  I hope that is a safe place.

Let's see if this works. some screenshots from my game. I'd advise viewing in full resolution to get the full effect.

That should be totally safe, Spike, and convenient too since you're going to be spending a lot of time running back to Sidorovich as you ease your way north. Also, new bandits will probably take over that car park where Nimble was being held all over again. With the AI on stalkers are, well, stalking. That means, by the way, that another Stalker can complete objectives meant for you. I don't think they can break the main quest, but keep your eyes on those shifty sons of bitches.

Having played most of the morning (and having the game essentially memorized) I'm a bit ahead - just crept down into the tunnels below Agroprom. One of the scariest moments in PC gaming!

Oh!  Thanks for that.  At least I'm warned.  [Image Can Not Be Found]

I think I'm gonna quit for the night.  I walked all along the fences hoping for a place to get through.  Possibly I wasn't thorough enough.  I'm gonna give going through the tunnel another try.  At this point I am a bit better equipped than when I first tried.  If that doesn't work I'll read Armand's spoiler.

Made it to the other side of the tracks.  The hard way, dying many times before I figured out the best "route" to take.  Ha-ha!  Not 15 minutes later I stumbled on an easier way.  Now I will go look at Armand's spoiler to see which one he recommended.  After saving Fox I went back to Wolf's camp to get supplies that I will need when I go north for real.

Edit:  Yep.  Armand suggested the easier way.  Live and learn.  Thanks, Armand.

Well, I have gone nowhere fast.   I shut it all down soon after my last post last night.   This morning I did start it up and changed my video quality level from maximum to medium and looked to see what would happen and I don't seem to be getting the intermittent slow downs.   So maybe that will be enough to solve that problem.   I was worried that I might have to uninstall everything and reinstall with the patch but not complete.

Then I met a friend for brunch and we went to hear the Dalai Lama speak on Peace Through Inner Peace.  Hugh audience (especially given the price of the tickets). It almost filled the U of M's hockey arena and this being MN, it is a very big hockey arena.   In case any of you have wondered if the world is getting better or worse,  the Dalai Lama is certain that the world is getting better.   But it would take a long time for me to explain why he thinks that.   So I won't even try.

Well now I switch gears back to being a Stalker.   Is there such a thing as a Buddhist stalker?   [Image Can Not Be Found]

Non- attachment sure doesn't hurt in this game, kay. If you can accept the premise of traveling light, with say nothing more than 2 guns, some ammo and a few snacks, you would be pretty well off.  I keep discarding stuff, stashing it, selling and I STILL have too much junk I never use. Being able to run away fast is a great defense.

Please check in.  Are you high and dry?   And if not, are you safe and sound.   Many of us would like to know.

Playing Stalker is like reading Dostoyavski. I know I'm in the presence of something great, but damn if it doesn't punish me for it every step of the way...

Fine here, Kay.  It appears that the river will crest tomorrow, 2 days early.  It is very, very high, but won't do much more damage in my neighborhood than it has, and that is to a few of the lowest-lying houses.  Why anyone would build a $300k+ house that close to the water is beyond me.  And the developer told them they wouldn't ever need flood insurance.  Now who in their right mind would take a developer's word for anything?  (Geez, I hope there are no developers here.   [Image Can Not Be Found])  The temporary levee they built for us is a useless piece of shit.  They tore up trees, grass, and asphalt to build it, and it's only about 18" high, and not where it would protect much if the water exceeded estimates.  But, some politicians live here, so spend money uselessly they did.  I'm all for lots of government spending, being of the WPA bent of mind, but this was useless.  And once the water receeds they will have to remove the levee and fix the street and everything else.  Double  [Image Can Not Be Found] spending.  Yeesh!

Now,  I went to sleep in one of the basements in Wolf's camp, and when I woke up almost all of them were dead, including Wolf.  The soldiers at the south end of the road had been shooting into camp, but I slept through a big fight.  So now I don't feel safe there, but I need to keep coming back to trade with Sidorovich.  Right now he's my only available safe person to trade with.

I know I need to go back over the railway embankment and head to Garbage and Agropom, but I'd like to have more ammo, food and meds before I do.

How is everyone else progressing?  This is getting to be fun, but with a side-order of stress because of too few supplies.  But I guess I'll live.

Kay, what are you working on now?  Have you gone very far north yet?

Armand, where are you with "Dostoyevsky"??    [Image Can Not Be Found]
