Hey congrats Kay. Small doses might be the best way to digest this, kinda like the brain disolving endless complexity of SpaceChem. Are we all through the Brain scorcher area? I'd like to mention what I really really like about this section.

Helmut, as far as I know, I am the only one here still playing.   So please post your thoughts and reactions to the Brain Scorcher area.

I think scout and Spike are through already. What I liked about the Brain Scorcher area was the way the dev's mixed up the normal approach. In the first three areas, you had to fight your way in. In the Brain Scorcher area, I stood before the switch and got such a feeling of, "where the hell was everybody?" I got all my stuff particularly sorted and well and truly saved before pulling the switch and watched in delight as the local pda counter went nuts and you had to fight your way out.

I would give anything for a good pair of wirecutters to use in this game.  Kay

I'm still lagging farrrrr back. I put it down in preparation for a long weekend ... oh I'll get back to the Zone who knows when.

It's true, Kay, the Stalker who has a nice set of bolt cutters for chain link fences would be immediately popular.

Trivia: as everyone knows, STALKER was hugely delayed, and just last year GSC released a version of the game as "originally envisioned." Build 1934.

No fences. None. In fact, no loading screens or sections at all. Just a Zone. That was twice as big as the one in the release version.

Of course, that level of technical hubris may have contributed to the game's endless development cycle...

They released a version, last year, as envisioned? Where is this version? Is it what was beamed onto my Steam client? I still have loading and fences.

Inform!

No, no, it's on their own website, I think. Look for STALKER Build 1934. It's barely playable, of course - you need a hex editor to change your settings, it's in Ukranian, etc. - but you can play enough to get an idea for what they had in mind. Build 1934 was the alpha build they were working on when the publisher, THQ, came in and started making the necessary changes so the game could ship. They released it sort of as a treat for fans of the game. I keep waiting for some enterprising mod team to get it into working order and make it English.

I have not quit.   Shut down Brain Scortcher. I am just sitting in the weeds trying to decide what to do next.  Every time I make an effort to go forward I die.  So what else is new?   Eventually I will figure something out.

Kay, I love your persistence. I am determined to get by the tough spots and not give up, but I want a quick solution. You really hang in there, no matter how long it takes. Where are you? The toughest spot for me was getting into the final building.

I'm proud of you guys, keep on truckin'! If you can make it as far as you have in STALKER, no game can stop you.

Pokey, like you I got myself killed maybe... a million times trying to get into the power plant. That sequence is one of the most insane and exhilarating moments in shooterdom. But totally worth it, in my book: the endgame, in Pripyat and outside the power plant, are not to be missed no matter how hard you have to fight to get there.

I will say that getting into the power plant is not the only option. There is another path, one that bypasses the Wish Granter. It is, if anything, harder to achieve - much harder, to be honest. Doc, one of the original members of Strelok's gang, will give you instructions.
