Finished the High Dragon off, the one on mountaintop and am starting Landsmeet.

Had the oddest scene where one of my people from the camp joined a gang that attacked us. I was confused about what was happening and found the replies confusing as well. The upshot was I killed him. Oh well, I never used him anyway...

I dropped Alistar finally from the party (no, I didn't kill him) and replaced him with Lialana or whatever she is called. (RPG names drive me crazy with the bizarrre spellings...). Since my player character is already a good tank I went back to having a rogue in the party. Much more fun, esp. the backstabbing. I got Lialana the Thorn of the Rose dagger which, though expensive, is very worth it. She now deals out the most damage as well as executing the rogue stuff.

Looks like a showdown with bad old Rogaine or Lohgain or what ever the sullen tin man is called.

Sounds like the fight when the Crows come looking for Zevran. I rarely used Zevran but my approval rating was high enough that I convinced him to stick around for the final battle. He was handy to have.

That was it. I thought I was saying that I'd let them have him over my dead body but I guess I said he would have to kill me to leave and he took me up on it. Back in Denerim the story is now feeling rushed. I've bumped into NPCs who are talking about stuff I don't remember flat out don't know about or refering to Origin stories I never went through. Kind of a confusing part of the game.

I stopped last night as my party was returning from the dungeons with the key to release the queen and saw about a dozen red dots on the other side of the door to the main floor. I suspect my carefully crafted cover has been blown. [Image Can Not Be Found] Knowing this game it's because I released prisoners and let them run nilly willy through the estate. Bioware is serious about the "no good deed goes unpunished" rule.

I am so far behind you guys that I have no idea what you are talking about.   But I am moving forward which is good enough for me.  I have cleaned up some back alley guys in Denerim and  am now to the B Forest and talking to the elves there.  Along the way I learned more about how to keep my gang alive and happy.  Not that we are a robust happy group.  But we are still moving and alive.  I can't ask for anything more.  kay

Just finished the Landsmeet and am off to what appears to be the final act.

About the Landsmeet:

I played through this part three times. The first time I couldn't get Alistar to agree to marry Edona as my Coerc skill was too low and I had squandered skill points on stuff like traps, poison, and herbalism before I knew what I was doing. I was getting more and more fed up with Alistar and so I gave the crown to Edona, spared Loghain and gave Alistar the boot. I also agreed to Morrigan's pre battle ritual to absorb the Demon's spirt into her womb. Now I know this is probably A Very Bad Idea, but what the hell. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Everything went find until after I saved the Market and the Alienage. Suddenly I was tasked with the Holding the Gate quest with the remainder of  my party. Unfortunately I had ignored them and not only had NOT outfitted them I hadn't even bothered to level them up and I had all this great Juggernaut and Dragonbone armor moldering in the chest at Warden's Keep.

I decided to reload and outfit my bench. One thing lead to another and I ended up loading the Raven Mod that lets you respec your characters. The only thing I used it for was reshuffling my PC's skill points into Coerc. This let me bend annoying Alister to my will and he agreed to marry the queen. Unfortunately he insisted on killing Loghaine so I finally gave in and did the deed. Apparently had I made some different choices earlier in the game I could have kept Loghaine but oh well.

Now I remembered Shale…Crap! I had forgot to load her into the game. Maybe she will be handy and since I'm a man short by killing the other rogue, I decided to add her at the last minute. But Bioware is down now…Arrggh.

Hopefully will be able to finish this game soon.

bah!

I didn't quote Scout in my original reply, so you can't blame me, dammit!

unspoilered:

Did I forget to mention not to leave your companions without armor or weapons while in camp?

Unless I'm mistaken, you can only keep Loghain by losing Alistair no matter what you've done prior to Landsmeet. Due to Loghain's abandoning the King and more importantly, Duncan, to die on the field at Ostagar, Alistair will not stay in your party if you agree to Riordan's suggestion to let Loghain live and join the Wardens.

Alistair is not whiny, he simply sees things in black & white. Wink

You are indeed near the end. Remember: ballistas are your friend.

"You are indeed near the end. Remember: ballista's are your friend."

I wanted to use the ballistas, but couldn't get them to work for me. In the confusion, think I ended up using elves for ranged attack.

Scout,

Didn't Alistair leave the group when you kept Lohgaine? He did for me, so I reloaded and killed L.

Huh. I can't open Toger or Pokey spoilers. The ones a few pages back work fine but when I try now, mine opens regardless of whose tag I click on. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Scout, they seem to be bugged. I can open yours but I couldn't open Toger's when I posted. I could open mine then but can't now. I was just wondering if Alistair left your party when you kept Lohgaine.

Oooh, that's bizarre indeed... where's Steerpike? Has he been messing about in the backroom again?

I'm beginning to suspect an exorcism is needed. I do believe T-R has a haunt in the works. Now Pokey's is working but Toger's is still bugged.

spoiler out in the open:

Pokey, yes, Alistar will leave for good if Lohgaine remains and joins you. I think there is a place in the Alistar sister quest that will change that scenario and offer a third way in which Alistar will remain even if Lohgaine stays. Which means, since that quest is so far back in the game, by Landsmeet you are locked into how Alistar will react. It is referred to as "hardening Alistar" in the forums.

Toger… did you cut and paste the code to reveal the spoiler?

Back to the Pen Toger you plagiarizing Velociraptor you!! Or, alternatively, if that seems too
harsh, you can fix it by editing your post and changing the id of the sfspoilercontent div,
and change the id in the sfjtoggleLayer call to match. It doesn't matter what you change them
to, as long as they match.

So Toger quoted my spoiler and that's why mine opens when I click on hers? Or no? My first use of T-R spoilers has not spoiled me.

I believe you are right about Toger's spoiler.  I can see the spoilers now, but the text of every post is running off the page now.

I think it's probably my post that's ruining the formatting of all the others. Bleh, this editor is monkeybusiness.

If I understand the "hardening of Alistair" correctly, that only applies to his acceptance of being King and marrying Anora (especially if your coercion isn't high enough), not as to whether he'll accept Loghain… at least that's what I'd read in the forums and the guide.

And I'm definitely not going to monkey around with the code. This software is decidedly f'ed up.

I'm sorry Toger, you didn't copy anything. There's something not working about the way the site software takes your tag when creating a post and turns it into the javascript that eventually gets returned in the page. When I put a spoiler tag into this post, it gave me id: 2 and rewrote Pokey's originally working link and broke it. Clearly an issue with the site s/w that they might fix sometime in the future, or not. Maybe we should just color the text white like back in the day and then others just have to highlight it to see it.

Toger

I was reading somewhere that when talking to Alistar's sister, the PC says something like, "people are like that Alistar" and this lower's Alistar's idealism but that seems like a lot of plot hanging on a single line of dialogue. That was how I interpreted hardening Alistar.

So yeah, this software is pretty squishy.
