They could teach that masque party in level design courses. The attention to detail in that level is just incredible. The buffet, the whale ice sculptures, not to mention the little things - actual people at the party, for example, mingling and moving from room to room. The roped off areas and polite guards saying "this room is not open for tonight's festivities, sir," or whatever. It really felt like you were at a party, rather than in a house level with a half-dozen extra models walking in figure eights.

I actually had to look back and confirm I gave Dishonored a mention in my 2012 Games of the Year. Maybe that actually sums up the complaint about it better than anything else: I loved it, but it just wasn't memorable. Here's a game I've been calling "Thief for the 21st Century" but very little of it remains in my mind. That compliment is still accurate, but it's sad that nothing lingered. They have to address that with Dishonored 2: Dishonorevengeance.

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

The end stretch is most definitely the worst part of Dishonored; by "end stretch" I mean everything after the point where you're captured and dumped in that river. Before though there was some great stuff; going after those two brothers (it was two brothers, right.. I forget) capturing Sokolov, Kaldwin's Bridge and, my favourite, the masqued house party.

I disagree! I loved the Flooded District, it was so... melancholic and bleak but streaked with bright whale viscera. It was a welcome break for me. Not to mention, you find 'Campbell' there. The Flooded District was like Yantar, or the Bonehoard, or the Trickster's domain even, and escaping was like coming up for air. I always preferred The Dark Project for its departures from all the standard mansion fare and I think that's why I welcomed the Flooded District scenario in Dishonored. I will say though, after that my interest waned, but I liked the understated ending, made a nice change.

I didn't dislike the ... mood of the place, I just didn't like how the game played in that section. Hunting those hunter guys on some really awkward terrain irritated me. Finding Campbell was interesting; made you second guess your decision to let him 'live'.

If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever
