Oh dear. I think I may have done a bad thing. Toger, have you met Granny Rags? She's pretty early on in the first mission. If so, did you do her optional quest?

I did, and I maybe didn't give Dishonored enough credit for tracking Corvo's direct actions and applying them to changes in the city. By poisoning the Bottle Street Gang's elixir still I poisoned the whole supply of elixir for the neighborhood. For some reason it didn't occur to me that families were buying that stuff as well as criminals. I've now come back to the same region for the second assassination, and it's a different place, let me tell you. Of course, it's only at this point that the game warns you about your own actions: "evil acts and more deaths will lead to increased numbers of rats and Weepers, different reactions from your allies, and darker outcomes."

I can definitely attest to the rats and Weepers part. Oh god, the rats.

I really don't want to rewind that far, so I'm just going to have to live with the consequences.

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

I know exactly which quest you mean... I have what she wants, but I don't think I'll do what she's suggesting as the mission notes have given me pause. Judging by your reaction, you fulfilled the quest. Consequences are a bitch! It would seem that reading the mission notes (not just tasks) comes in handy! tongue

Doubled back to get the bone charm at the beginning of this mission. Put the roving guard to sleep with a dart and stalked the two throwing bodies. Easy peasy... especially with Blink maxed. Wheeee! Now back to my previously scheduled gaming in the commander's office.

Just finished the first mission... I went the non- lethal route for Campbell. While making my way to Samuel, I somehow got jumped by a couple of guards. I eluded them by diving into a basement hidey-hole but I have no freakin' clue where they came from as when I originally Blinked over, there was only the one guard and I'd already taken him out.  I heart Blink.
Oh, and I didn't go back to Granny Rags... Even though revenge solves everything.

Started the second mission; but first, Corvo must invetigate noises in the cellar! Anyone else notice that Pendleton looks like Mr Smith from the Matrix?

Assassins jumped me in an alley!! WTF?!! I was headed into the distillery to talk to Slackjaw (charming name... wonder if it's his first or last name?) when they Blinked in and tried to kill me. Lucky for them I accidentally pulled up my sleep darts. All three are sleeping it off in a trash bin.

Giggle moment: I'm Blinking from the alley towards Galvani's house when I get stuck on a corner of roof. While trying to get unstuck, I look off in the direction of the pier. I saw several bodies get blown off that pier when I first arrived but didn't know what caused it. And then it all makes sense, it's a tower with one of those lights that burns everyone not the City Watch and it's on a rotating platform. hmmm, Wonder if I can Blink that far? Not directly, but look! There's a light pole midway! I can Blink to that and from there to the platform! Why look, I'm on the platform. Open up the electrical box, remove the whale oil tank and pitch it into the sea. The guards noticed. And got a little uppity. Blink, blink...
Guards: where'd he go? Witchery!

Yes, I'm easily amused. What's your point?

No more for tonight, I think I'll watch the ab-fest that is "300".

Inside the Golden Cat.

Got the info that Slackjaw needed. Trying to decide if he'll notice the difference if I go to the safe, clean it out and then give him the combination.up_to_something

I thought about doing that, but in the end I decided I'd just kill the Pendletons myself, clean out the safe, and call it a day.

Do you think you're going to let Slackjaw handle your targets? I'd be curious to see what changes if you do.

I will probably let Slackjaw handle them as that's the non-lethal option presented. I get the impression that just choking them unconscious is not an option. First, I will strip the Golden Cat bare.

I also can't decide if I should go back to Slackjaw before the rescue. The VIP entrance is already open and I sure as hell don't want to back-track through the Captain's Chair - bunny-hopping down 3 flights of stairs to avoid the damned rats. Which came out of freakin' nowhere! I Dark Vision enough to strip my eyeballs bare and never saw them coming.

Picked up Possession. So far, I've only taken over a rat but I think I'll up my game to humans. That should be entertaining.

Just get her to the VIP entrance, Toger - no need to worry beyond that. Sooner is best since it's one less thing you have to deal with.

And the Golden Cat mission is in the bag.

(Giants going to the Series!!! It's pouring rain and I can hear the fireworks from AT&T park)

ahem... where was I? I did leave the Cat to see Slackjaw and empty the safe. Then came back for Emily. Slackjaw's solution:

Apparently, the Pendletons own several mines. He shaved their heads, cut out their tongues (!) and dropped them into their own poorly run mines. How's that for revenge? Ran into Granny Rags on my way out of the VIP entrance. She didn't seem to care that I hadn't poisoned the Bottle Gang's still.

Alrighty, pay day = new game time, and I decided I'd go with Dishonored now and X-Com later. It is not easy to pry these bones away from Dark Souls, but let's see how it goes...

Welcome to Dunwall, xtal. It's not bad if you can ignore the rats... and weepers... and the oppressive regime. But otherwise, the world is your oyster!

Heading off for Sokolov... what is that large metal gate on the south side of the bridge? Am I supposed to leave that in the up position? Used the electric mine cart to cross the divide and that was fun!

I escaped the prison (the actual escaping part was quite fun...I grinned) and called it a night. I can already tell I'm going to play this game exactly like I played Thief: methodically saving and re-loading, taking each guard out silently, perfectly, one by one, until the job is done.

Any people who say this is a short game I can already tell are probably run-n-gun, slice-n-dice types. I love that the AI pathing changes organically and there's no one perfect window of opportunity to sneak out of guard X and Y's vision; you have you use your eyes and ears, just as Thief made you do. I'm so tired of being on the rails (looking at you, Splinter Cells 4/5) ... Give me freedom and challenge!

I'm looking forward to finding out what's in store, as the setting which I've barely scratched already intrigues!

Accidentally lopped a guard's head off (I wasn't in the right spot to choke him and he heard me flailing about)! Two minutes later the rat swarm devoured him whole. Did I mention the weepers I took out leaving the Golden Cat? Rat swarm only stripped the skin from the body...  Apparently rats don't like the taste of weeper! Icky, ick, ick!

Finally, finally made it to the other side of the bridge and turned off the spot lights.

Met my first river crust. Uh... think I need to get rid of the guards before trying to get rid of the river crust.

I'm on the Sokolov mission too - fairly early on. I haven't played since the beginning of the week on account of XCOM so I might restart it to get my bearings again.

Does killing Weepers count as killing people? Does it add to disorder in the city? I was kinda violent in the first mission, but at the Golden Cat I only killed the two targets. And one unfortunate hooker in the steam room.

Apparently, weepers are people, too because they've appeared in my mission stats as "hostiles killed". I've read in another forum that if you're going for a no kill run, you're only allowed rats, dogs and river crusts! Aren't weepers doomed anyway? That sorta doesn't make sense to me. And what the hell keeps biting me while in the water? I've been trying to keep my kill count low: 2nd mission I only took out the 3 weepers so my chaos is low. Trying to get across the bridge, I rewired an Arc pylon and accidentally crisped two guards. I felt bad so I reloaded. Just the other side of the bridge, I was following the imprisoned thief and blinked right in top of him, thereby causing him to fall into the water and drown. I reloaded. Then I got my butt handed to me by the river crusts because I'm stupid.tongue

I haven't met a river crust yet and now I'm afraid of them because of your posts. As for what's biting you in the water, those are hagfish, which are so yummy when brined! You can see them underwater sometimes. They have a nasty bite.

ahhhh, are those the same fish I can possess? Didn't realize the little buggers bite. Sounds like Australia (or the American South) - where everything is trying to kill you. I haven't bothered to inhabit a fish as my preferred method of transport is over the rooftops.

It seems I lied. I am not on the other side of the bridge. I'm only at the mid-bridge station. Jiminy Christmas this bridge is long!

Ran into a survivor trapped/surrounded by a rat swarm. So, I throw a couple of dead bodies in their direction thinking she'll get up and make a run for it while they're otherwise occupied. Damn that critical thinking. It doesn't appear to work in games as the survivor continues to shake and do nothing. Lucky for her, I found out that if I killed enough of the rats she'd respond. Stupid woman. spank

*edit: in all honesty, the river crusts probably aren't that bad. But, I am! I'm slow on the draw when they start spitting acid at me and you can only kill them when their maws are open. And you take a fairly deep hit when the acid hits, Ouchie.

I've begun the first post-prison mission ... upgrading agility was a brilliant idea, the joy of jumping to incredible heights really can't be overstated.

I thought I completed the first mission completely non-lethal but apparently I killed two people? Hmm. Oh well, chaos was still marked as "low" so I hope that bodes well for my future.
