Because I like talking to myself and it might convince others to help me when I can't figure out how to open doors (gads, that was embarrassing!) [Image Can Not Be Found] I was moving boxes trying to get up under the ceiling signs that said "pull", pushing broken keypads...

I'm just past the prologue - Sarif is waiting for me on the helipad while I read emails and poke through people's desks. Why isn't there an option to tell him to just hold his horses as I'm too busy being a snoop? I've been closing doors and vents behind me.

I'm playing on the 360 (don't judge me!)

How does it play on 360 Toger? Comfortably? I feel like I could use one or two more mouse buttons, yet when I try to picture playing with a 360 controller none of the "normal" button placements work in my mind.

I'm in Shanghai, talking with Shanghai-ese people. Sarif can just wait until I finish padding my expense report.

It's quite comfy! I'm not having any problems with "too many notes*". Truth to tell, I haven't really done too much as I'm still digging through people's offices based on emails I've read. I do need to check for the toggle cover off/on as I don't like holding the left trigger for hours on end while I contemplate my next move.

Load times are kinda longish, but I was expecting that. I could install it to the HD, but that takes far longer than the load times ever could... so, for the nonce I'll just deal with it.

True to my roots, I'm making a nuisance of myself by chatting up everyone, eavesdropping on phone conversations as people stand in the corridors and reading everything I can lay my hands on.

I, I uh, finished last Thursday. It's sorta like you have a big pocket full of steely marbles and  you start putting one steely marble next to the next steely marble until you have all the steely marbles all in a row and you sit back and go, well there's a whole pocket of steely marbles all in a row that's what that is yes siree. steely marbles.

You're done, Helmut?! Cripes, did you lock yourself in a tiny room and just play?

Me? I'm just happy I got into the factory in the first mission! I managed to ghost my way thru the four guards on the loading dock and get through the door. Then I remembered Prittchard mentioning the roof - backed out, closed the door and entered through the roof. I only played about 90 minutes last night, the majority of which was spent crouched down behind boxes tracking guards. At this rate, it'll be Christmas before I'm done.

I learned the hard way that I should drag them off to a secret hidey-hole before rifling their pockets. Guard's body got hung up on a box and I had to leave him then wait out the alarm, only to have the guy reverse his guarding position(!). Ended up being seen. Reload is my friend. And yes, I do save after each take-down, why do you ask?

Toger, there is no achievement for using 100 save slots (heh, I know) and once you use them all it's possible to wrap over (but a pain) and possible to delete them (one by one, a pain) so when possible it is nice to consolidate micro progress in a single area into just a few saves.

I missed a few side quests in Shanghai, not that I was trying to. The quest system is good compared to say S.T.A.L.K.E.R. where side quests sometimes take more resources than you earn. It pays to do everything here.

LOL! I'm not creating a new save file for each takedown. I learned that lesson with DA:O. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Yeah, the sidequests are manageable and all pretty well-done. There's some writing and stuff that goes into them, and in many cases a few alternative solutions.

Shanghai is a real maze, I don't like trying to navigate it. Right now I'm in the middle of the Story quest for that hub; I assume I'll be back in Detroit afterward. The sidequest for Malik was awesome.

Another thing I like: I don't feel maxed out. There's always augs I want to buy or upgrade. Often skill trees get kind of runny after a while, but not here. It helps keep you going.

I'm still in the Milwaukee warehouse, but I have made it into the assembly line. Oooo, first hack achievement! I left 3 guards awake in shipping, do I need to take them all down? Aside from the xp gained, will having them moving about bite me in the butt later?

Trying to get one of those roving guards to investigate a thrown box was crazy. I must have thrown 10 of them before I was finally in the right place (for me) and threw it in the right direction.

I don't think they move around too much Toger. I've left a few of them around and they don't seem to wander around and come  up on you later. You get xp for taking them out of course, but it costs ammo/energy as well.

Malik's little job in Hengsha was fun. I was out of hacking tools when I went to Lee's apt the first time and didn't actually finish that quest the first time through. Here's a tip when you're hacking. You can send two (or more) hacking threads out at the same time. The little icons that look like boxes with translucent boxes surrounding them sometimes contain more of the nuke or stop virus, so if you're hacking towards your destination you can sometimes splinter off another job to download some extras. It has helped keep my stock of those aids up. I'm certain this is the type of thing they would have gone over in the tutorial, had I watched it. [Image Can Not Be Found]

The first time through it felt like I was augmenting to keep my head above water. This time through, I'm using way less and have a few praxis points always on hand. Much easier this time through.

I have discovered a new mode of fun. Further on, after Hengsha, there are some levels that were quite time consuming creeping along steathily with lots of heavily armoured enemies. I eschewed this approach this time round, instead opting for the portable subjugated turret posse. Set 'em up and let the cameras see you and let the troops come! It's hamburger time!

Turret domination is on my list of Things I Need to Buy - I'm up to cameras, and have most of my other hacking skills maxed out. I also need the "Fall from A Great Height" and "Die Less Easily" augmentations.

Just wrapped up Hengsha and am apparently on my way to Montreal. While playing I got to thinking that Adam Jensen probably gets paid pretty well - it's a hard job he does, and he doesn't even get Frequent Flyer miles on business trips because he takes the company jet-copter.

Turreting can be useful but really only in a few places. Also useful, in a I-don't-really-want-this-but-I-need-it-to-get-the-eliminate-recoil-skill is the punch through the walls ability. You don't see the possible outlines until you own the ability, but there are several places where it has proved quite useful. There is an ebook that requires the icarus landing system to read, if you're achievement whoring. I was until I was caught out short praxii. 😉

There is a skill necessary for the 2nd and 4th boss battle. If you don't want to know what it is prior to, take 4 praxis points in with you.

Freed the hostages, last night. Cheeky place to hide the code for the bomb.

Picked up my first praxis point. I'm still mulling over the best options on where to put it. I finally made it to the admin area of the warehouse. Poor little hacker. That was rather icky.

Have I mentioned how much I suck at luring guards? Sometimes, it works rather well. The other 99% of the time, everyone and their brother is gunning for me. In one area, 3 guards went full on hostile because I didn't take down the first one fast enough and he started yelling and shooting. I took him down, ran into a room and grabbed the second guard that followed. The third, bless his heart, refused to come into the room so I had to go out - walking toward him as he's shooting at me! - and managed to fire off a tranq round.

Picking them off one by one in a cube farm is not easy. Those labs need bigger cube walls so I can hide!

Yowza, Helmut, I just finished the second boss battle. Pretty good idea what that skill was. Luckily I took your advice and hoarded Praxis, so I had it to spend when I needed it.

Made it to Detroit. I'm now hip-deep in side quests.

Where the heck is the arms dealer? Thorpe told me, but it's not listed on my map nor is it in the completed quest log. The alleys get me all turned around. (I was tempted to hack the Thorpe's wall safe, but in all good conscience, I just couldn't do it!) Currently, any additional weapons I've found are in a heap on the floor of Jensen's apartment... not that he'd notice. His place is full of take-out (take-away for the out-landers) containers, boxes and clock parts.

Could those non-Chiron building apartments be any more depressing?

Note to self: do not attempt hacks in full view of the police. Do not fail said attempts. They get snippy.

As a "Detroiter," at least in the sense that I live in the area and have been there many times, I'll say that DXHR's representation of Detroit is... loose.

It's Grand River Avenue.

Toger, the arms dealer in question is in one of those tenements - I actually found him by accident. And I should go back because I bet he has better stuff than the guy in the gas station. I wish I could give you better directions, but it's in one of those dirthole apartment buildings. Maybe on a lower floor? I'm not sure.

Back in Detroit and wrapping up my main quest there. The plot has thickened to the consistency of stew!

Ha ha. There's a vid on hacking the police station by stacking boxes around the door thereby keeping oneself out of sight. In a move that provided 237% of my daily irony requirements, I tased the entire 3rd and 2nd floor officer force. Toger both times through I found the dealer, the first time I, um failed to save the hostages and didn't know the dude in the room was a friend, but you should be able to find him pretty easily if you're as thorough as your reputation suggests.

I hate the map feature. Especially in Hengsha. The idea of showing separate levels without any connectivity between them added hours onto my game.

Anyone else pick up the social skill? How are you all finding the persuasion system?

I took it. It's a bit confusing, because it kind of kicks you into it without any training, but it can be useful. Basically, a person's behavior meanders through "Alpha" - self-confident asshole; "Beta," - something I can't remember; and "Omega" - self-loathing weenie. Success of your responses varies based on how well you align your remark to the character's personality.

You can also sometimes exude pheromones, in which case it tells you flat-out which response is best for each personality type.

The trick is that very few people stay the same throughout a conversation. They may come on strong, for example, and slowly begin to have doubts; or maybe you buff their self-confidence to a high shine with compliments. You have to watch flashing lights on each of Alpha, Beta, and Omega and keep track of what type they've exhibited most, then choose accordingly.

In certain sequences - two so far that I've encountered - you get a lot more information, including psych profiles and clear suggestions on how to proceed. These seem to be the exception rather than the rule, though, and are important exchanges for the story.

All in all it's an interesting aug, but not one that's necessary.

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.
