Let the crazy begin!
I don't have a friend code yet, nor is my town's - Quagmire - gate open. I just took the shrink wrap off last night and have been sucked right back into it all. I've got pears!
So far, all I've done is figure out where my house is going to go (my indecision must have made Nook insane), bought a shovel and net, dug up some fossils which I promptly donated and just this morning got a free palm-leaf lamp gift from Nintendo. Yes, I brought it to work, what's your point?

I'm hoping you have enough to keep you busy this weekend - I have yet to create a Mii although I put together a prototype this morning. Creating a personage who is supposedly me is infinitely harder than naming a character & her town. For me, anyway. I've decided the Mii will *not* be me.
This weekend's activities include closing on a house, moving (some) stuff, meeting with contractor, trimming trees, measuring spaces, hauling more stuff...not gathering fruit, catching bugs & fishing. Nevertheless, I may sneak in a few moments here & there. Can't miss the daily shopping selection (spoilers exist re: shopping).
Do you want spoilers about in game mechanics that took me weeks* to discover? If you're reading the wiki which I wasn't, you'll learn about many.
* Boston trip, finding a house, packing, exhaustion & brain overload all replaced game time. I'm really only a week or so into content.
I've yet to even look for a wiki... But that could change.
Last night I bought the fishing pole and added to the museum. Keep seeing a rolled up rug outside Nooks that I keep trying to pick up. I'm sure it's discarded but the game hasn't mentioned discarded things yet (or maybe it won't. Some things have changed slightly from the last version I played).
So you're finally moving from the constant hot/humid to the seasonal with the accompanying snow during winter, eh?

Nuh-uh, no snow, ever. Boston was visiting families of Daughter & Son.
We thought we'd relocate, we planned to relocate, we investigated relocating. Finally realized Houston still has all the features we want (why we moved here from overseas in the first place). So, we're relocating within Houston. Selling both houses, moving to different quadrants (Houston is huge, as you know). We're going from NW to NE, 1.5 hour away. Everything is new to us, might as well be in a different city. Except for the humidity, of course.
BTW, love your town name.
I have never seen a rolled up rug outside but I did find a "lost book." Unfortunately it was late, I was exhausted, gave up playing before I found the owner. Now it is no longer "lost" & I'm stuck with it. And new game feature, you gotta pay to get rid of useless junk! No more recycling bin. Unless something changes or I am just dumb.
I've read about the "fee" required to dispose of unwanted trash. But I like rummaging through other animal's cast-offs!
Paid the down payment for my first house, so it should be built by the time I fire it up tonight. Nook is still a crook. Or it could be just that's he looks like one due to his mask. Did a bunch of fishing and got bit by several mosquitoes (just like real life!). Managed to catch one and it's now on display in the museum (hoping it's in a jar!)
Ohhh, you're just moving across town. You're right. As big as Houston is, it's probably like moving to another city.

Hi Steerpike (don't we have one of those insipid waving smilies?).
You gotta respect a game that appeals to players from pre-readers to hardcore gamers. Amazing to me that AC's overt silliness is "fun" to such a range of ages & abilities.
Too bad you can't justify a 3DS based on irrational reasoning. Like I did. With your younger (than my) eyes, a regular (non-XL) 3DS is $114.99 and in stock both grade 5 and 6 (like new!). http://www.cowboom.com/product/896657
You owe it to yourself - AC is one of a kind (that admittedly, you make hate ).
* Cowboom may have a stupid name but they are legit. Last year I bought a mint PS3, cheap(ly).
Got two new residents: Gala, a precious pig and Hippeaux who is pretty much what her name implies. Someone gave me peaches, so I planted all three. Only one appears not destined for this world. I met Sahara, the camel but I didn't have a house yet so she wouldn't sell me anything. Redd's dubious goods have appeared. Today, I'll attempt to play the turnip market.
Buy a 3DS 'Pike... For Zelda. Then buy AC.
*Edit - drat! Missed the turnip lady so I'll have to wait until next Sunday. Well, crap on a cracker... I have to pay off the extortionist mortgage rates *and* fund the town projects?! Why the hell aren't the other residents funding the town works? I know they've got money 'cause their houses are huge!

Four days of RL House stuff. AC stopped 27 hrs. after signing contract. Outside temps hovering 97-98. Yes we have home warranty, on Monday fix-it guy discovered furnace door in attic (temps @ 110-120?) improperly closed causing auto thermostat shutdown. Who wants to bet on our home inspector doing his duties before we bought?
AC, not so much. Those fruits are just fine on the trees and so what if shells choke the beach. The granite slabs at the stone yard won't choose themselves, nor will 5000 paint colors decide which one best matches worn & dirty carpets yet compliments two shades of gray paint (that I thought was pale aqua) in five areas we are *not* repainting (for now). Not to mention whatever decisions are required before installing laminate floors.
Toger, I do have a friends code but don't want you to see my messy town. Unless you want to feel great about your town while grabbing some (unpicked) apples. Got some oranges too (from whoever sent us 3 fruits. In the mail? I forget how we got 'em). Plus bananas, persimmons and some other red thing....also, forget. Anyway, 3 tropical fruits from the island you could get just as well.
P.S. Reading the above, I really do sound senile.
You poor thing! I cannot imagine no a/c in the sweat-box that is Texas humidity. (I bitched & moaned all thru France about the "high" temps - 80s) I shouldn't mention it, but I did giggle just a tiny bit at the "gray paint (that I thought was pale aqua)".
Now that you mention it, someone gave me bananas too. I think I planted them, but don't remember which of the 3 surviving trees they could possibly be! I'll be surprised when they finally produce fruit. See? You're not the only one who forgets.

Too bad I can't mail you fruit. Player to player, like in mmos.
Because I picked 'em, I know that bananas are beach dwellers. Thrive in pure sand.
I read somewhere a new (?) hint about tree survival: don't let tree shadows overlap (or touch?). Trees didn't have shadows before, did they? Planting & survival was more hit or miss + luck. Now, if you look closely, each living tree has a shadow.
Have you been to the island yet? I did that over spending bells on public works. Just started my first one, of course it's a bridge. To nowhere as I can't afford the price and my villagers aren't interested. Could be mutual dislike as I can't stand most of them. The one I did like wanted to move until I convinced her otherwise. I really need to spend more time in game serving the public, I'd move too if I had to live with me as Mayor.
Unfortunately, I didn't know about the banana trees needing pure sand to thrive - it's the tree that died. :sad panda: In other tree news, the three peaches I planted just produced their first crop yesterday!
I know about the space needed for trees but hadn't heard/read anything about shadows!
No, I haven't been to the island yet because I was splitting my funds between mortgage and public works (park clock). Last night, I chose to divert most of my bells to paying off the house so that Tortimer will show up. I can probably pay off the house either today (tonight) or tomorrow then the island will open.

Tree news: Isabelle mentioned something about not planting trees in shade. Guess I should have talked to her before.
Tortimer showed up yesterday. He says the boat will come by tomorrow (today). The flower store opened a couple of days ago, so now I can plant flowers/non-fruit bearing trees. The Nooklling (?) has been selling the same fishing pole and shovel for the last 3-4 days. I get the feeling they're waiting for me to upgrade my house now that I've paid off the first mortgage. Greedy raccoons!

Must type fast! Since we last spoke, I have HAD NO INTERNET! Went out Wed. morning, finally tech here tonight (Fri), seems connection on telephone pole was hit by lightening. All burned & blackened, another tech will visit tomorrow to replace the equipment when we won't be home (moving crap between houses) so it may not happen. My connection at the moment is using lightening hit equipment which may go out any second. This has sucked! I must have internet to survive!
Oh, and on Wed. at the New House, an underground pipe for sprinkler system broke creating a stream down back yard and across back of property. Luckily man ripping out counter tops was there, he used my coffee cup to bail out the water, we both managed to find cut offs & shut offs & turn offs.
Meanwhile it's 98 outside and I'm tired of sweating.
Yours in Chaos,
Normally I'd think I was going insane, unable to distinguish realities, because the homeownership crises of Animal Crossing and Yapette's New House Transition are blurring together. Tortimer the counter man with a coffee cup, bailing out shade-planted trees... park clock... banana trees without internet...
It's just art imitating life, though, that's what I keep telling myself.
I'm sorry about the new home crises, Yap. Why do pipes always seem to burst immediately after someone buys a new home? Are the pipes under stress from the change? I mean come on. It happens way too often to be a coincidence. In any case, I hope it won't be too much of a pain (or cost) to fix... between that and 98 degrees, it'll ruin a week pretty easily. Hope everything gets fixed, and Toger, I hope you deal with those greedy raccoons... checking this thread gives me a laugh every day.
Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

You know what, Steerpike? Your first paragraph sounds normal to me. A mash up of my current reality & how I think.
This weekend has been blasting music of the mexicos as granite counter tops are installed, more carloads of stuff hauled in, and we discover late Sunday that the lush vegetation (33 yrs. of horticultural love, main reason we bought & love this house) has not been watered since Wednesday when the break in zone 7 was fixed. Zone 7 has returned to sprinkling daily, but zones 1,2,3,4,5,6 and 8 have remained OFF. Just dandy.
More AC/RL garblization. I blame Toger's watering can & dead banana trees. Which reminds me, at the new house we have 2 bunches growing but when do I pick in order to beat the birds? This narrative is becoming more & more bizarre.
The best is yet to come. The three dogs, each with "fatal flaws" (thus, rescue dogs), have yet to visit the new property although they know something is up as their household is dismantled & disappears.
Oh Yap! I feel your no Internet pain. Up until yesterday, couldn't get on to my home network... My kid had sucked up all the available slots on our dsl except the spot for my phone and iPad. Finally occurred to me to reset the modem (duh), et voila! I've got access, again. Sheesh.
yesterday, Saharah came buy and re-did my house with new carpet and wallpaper. That camel has exceptional taste! Went to the island (Kapp'n was flirting with me on the ride over) and participated on some tours. Managed to nab some coconuts, lemons and lychee for home. So far everything appears to be thriving. Did a fruit labyrinth but Tortimer wouldn't let me keep the extra fruit!
This morning, bought turnips from Joan - here's hoping the stalk market goes up this week. I need to make mortgage payments (98K for about 30 extra sq ft?) somehow, I managed to get 17k points from the Happy Home Association. That Lyle just kills me. Tonight there's fireworks!

Haven't updated in a while:
Discovered free diving! Now I'm sad that I didn't buy that wetsuit when I had the 40 coins - instead I sorta squandered them on a Mermaid Wardrobe; which at the time, I desperately needed.
In addition to pears, Quagmire's flora now includes peach, lemon, lychee, durian and coconut trees. I just planted banana trees last night so those should bear fruit within the next week. And I finally managed to catch a shark!
Paid off my second mortgage. Nook's nephews have upgraded the Nookling to T&T and Shrunk (I think that's his name) came around and asked/received permission to build Club LOL. I haven't seen him since he got the signed petition.
