Yes! Congratulations Spike [Image Can Not Be Found]
I think originally they would send the 'fool' on errands that were fictional (wasting the person's time), hence a 'fool's errand', and this turned into general pranking.
Incidentally Spike, have you heard how engineers view the 'partially' filled glass of water?

Thanks Jarrod. Please tell me about the engineers. I hope you aren't one because it has been my experience that engineers are one of the most unimaginative groups of folks on the planet.
Ok. So I came directly to Tap after reading news online. You now get burdened with my new-found knowledge.
I was going to ask "What are drumlins and eskers?" But that might be too hard (I sure didn't know this.), so I will simply ask:
What scientific (oops, strike-out "scientific") discipline would concern itself with drumlins and eskers? There are probably 2 or 3 that are interested, but there is one main one. Don't be fooled because "eskers" sounds a bit like "esters".

You are speedy and correct, Jen.
"Eskers are winding ridges a few tens of metres high that look remarkably like railway embankments. Indeed they are often used as readymade roads and run up and down hills over distances that sometimes stretch to hundreds kilometres."
"Drumlins, on the other hand, are tear-drop-shaped hills a few tens of metres high and a hundreds of metres long. They often appear in large numbers with the same orientation in drumlin fields."
So, why did I find this interesting? Geologists have long thought that eskers and drumlins were formed by glaciers and left behind when the glaciers retreated. If so, why is there fossil evidence in their outer layer which would have been deposited after their formation, and no fossil evidence in their cores, presumably the materials that the glacier "lifted" as it moved over the area? Also, if they are glacier-related we should see evidence of new ones forming now, but that has not been the case.
A new theory proposes that "...eskers and drumlins are the debris left on Earth after our planet repeatedly passed through the tail of a giant comet."
It sounds hokey, but we are star-stuff. Science class is over for the day. Go outside and play.

Thanks Jen.
In 2000 Mel Carnahan (D-Missouri) ran against John Ashcroft (R) for the US Senate. Carnahan won with a 2% margin.
In 1999 the town of Winfield, Missouri (must be Missouri's day at Ye Olde Trivia Factory) elected their incumbent mayor, Harry Stonebraker, to his 3rd term. Stonebraker garnered 90% of votes.
Despite the fact that Carnahan and Stonebraker each won uncontestedly, neither man was sworn into their respective offices. Neither man died between election day and inauguration day.
Why didn't they take office?
