I wouldn't mind travelling to all those places... if they weren't so hot. [Image Can Not Be Found]

In other news: instead of the Butler, it was the power supply. Apparently, it went out screaming. They're running tests on the new one; installing/burning in the new (old) video card and I should have it back tomorrow.

Next on this week's agenda: whining to Apple about my phone's spontaneous reboots several times a week.

Such good news! You can run that Thing for another 8 years thus skipping Vista, Windows 7 and maybe even 8!

Now you know that the symptoms while playing NWN2 were pre-hardware failure (not system inadequacy [Image Can Not Be Found]).

I'm teasing you and I do hope Apple fixes whatever it is. Wasn't Steerpike's seemingly bricked but it wasn't & Apple fixed it at the store? Do they really have Apple stores up north where he lives?

(needless to say, I have never seen an Apple store let alone entered one although I have bought refurbs at the online store).

The Apple store employs gods. My son took his supposedly dead iTouch and they did something magical to it to get it working again. I have hopes of the same with my phone.

If the vid card burn-in goes well, I may finally be able to play the Witcher! My rig ran it, but it definitely had a true bottleneck with the original vid card – even with double the system RAM.

And I still say the issues I had with NWN2 was the game itself. [Image Can Not Be Found]

*edit – shop called, my machine is up and running but it's throwing hard drive errors. He thinks the power supply was probably in its death throes for a while and affected the hard drive. So, he's gonna drop a new hard drive in. I didn't want to take it, have it fail on me and have to lug it back.

He says they should be able to clone the drive and reinstall my stuff for me. It's still cheaper than a brand new rig.

I challenge any of you that Southern Ontario is the Humidity Capital Of The World.

Here is the current long term forecast for Toronto:

Sat - 83% humidity

Sun - 88% humidity

Mon - 94% humidity

Tue - 88% humidity

Wed - 78% humidity

No matter what the temperature is here it feels like a billion degrees. I waited for the bus yesterday morning in direct sunlight + humidity for about 5 minutes ... I was drenched in my own sweat.

Even right now, while only 24 Celsius it feels like 32. And this is before 7:30 in the morning (32C = 90F, for the Yanks) .....

If being wrong's a crime I'm serving forever

good grief, xtal! That's just inhumane!

It's been unbearably hot in SF the last couple of days. Thankfully, the fog has returned to a degree. It's made everything much more livable.

Yesterday was a record breaking fifth in a row over 90F for Portland ME, with humidity to match. If today didn't hit that, it came close.

I moved to Maine. There was a deal. Lots of snow in exchange for no bugs and none of those temperatures. Soon after I got here the ticks arrived, with a potentially fatal disease, natch. Now this. I demand reparations. From the state, from BP, from Poseidon, don't care. Someone owes me cash and lots of it. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Rubbing my hands together for the hurricane waltzing by in a few hours. Flooding, two days without power? Totally worth it to ditch the heat.

Not here. Aug 28 was the first long sleeved shirts + long pants day and today was the first day requiring slippers inside the house (concrete floors). Summer's over; catch up everyone.

Good! It's about time things cool down! Stupid humidity. I think the sun is getting closer.

The two bits below are related only by the movie trailer.

Has an adventure game ever done an old-fashioned newspaper office movie? The staccato patter and many cranky characters seems an obvious fit.

I've always wanted a game where the sword of Damocles will drop and the player can do nothing about it. Everyone knows they're in the end times but not exactly how close. If the whole world was a millennial cult because that is the objective reality. Fallout does the anodyne after. STALKER probably comes closest but it's a limited disaster poke into the world--which probably makes for a better game.

Back in the day my eschatological pen & paper fantasy world with enormous firey sigils wheeling through the sky like phases of the moon was a flop with the D&D crowd, and that's being generous. "Dude, this is depressing." What if astrology wasn't bullshit? didn't assuage 'em. "Dude, no beholders?"

Instead of using fantasy to safely abstract race and class into orcs and elves, take the scary stuff and paint it across the sky.

Of course, my other ideal game is a multi-generational turn based something-or-other in Medici Florence, and that one is definitely not happening.

Grats! Might I recommend Lastpass? Smother with kisses wonderful. [Image Can Not Be Found] Free (pay version adds a few things), secure*, vacuums up all the passwords (and generates gnarly new ones). Only need to memorize one scary master login and golden for every browser on every machine you have, including smart phones. Quickly moved onto the list of five best pieces of software I've ever used, and that list was born in 1986.

*Why it is secure is a bit complicated, but the smart paranoid folk have been jabbing it with sticks to find chinks...then using it.
