For #1, xtal, I think you are thinking of the logo for Scott Free:

Dix nailed #1, it's the cover art from Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell -- one of the great novels in the English language, I hasten to add, it's very British and magical and the BBC miniseries was also excellent -- though that Scott Free Productions call was a good guess. As I consider Ridley Scott to be a minimal-talent hack you're unlikely to see his logo on our site banner, but since this is not a fact I've yet advertised the mistake is understandable.

I knew my years of creepily loitering in the sci-fi/fantasy section of Barnes & Noble would one day pay dividends.

Wait..#5 isn't FORCED, is it?  This game visits me in my dreams sometimes.  I love it so much.  I really do.

No it's not, but it does look a lot like Forced, doesn't it? That was an excellent game. If you have very, very patient friends who don't expect much from your hand-eye coordination.

You're right, Dix, that's exactly what I was thinking of! Thanks!

  1. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susannah Clarke. Read it if you haven't.
  2. Destiny
  3. The Magic Circle - this is a clever indie game from Jordan Thomas, he of Shalebridge Cradle and Bioshock 2 fame
  4. Sunless Sea
  5. Sword Coast Legends
  6. The Fall
  7. Neapolitan from Rooster Teeth's RWBY
  8. Seven-Day Band - an IndieCade 2015 finalist and clever take on the rogue-like
  9. Mortal Kombat Annihilation - Fuck yeah!
  10. My cat, Ozzie. I couldn't think of another game.

Enjoy the new one!

1. Some Assassin's Creed, though off-hand I can't be sure which one.

2. ?

3. Splatoon

4. A turtle.  Duh.

5. ?

6. ?

7. One of the Uncharteds.  My instinct is to say Drake's Fortune.

8. Invisible, Inc.

9. ?

10. Looks like Alyx from Half-Life 2 with a chainsaw.  I don't remember her having a chainsaw.  But that's who it looks like.

Yowza, it's been three months!

Here's the here's:

Image Enlarger

  1. Rise of the Tomb Raider
  2. Cover art for The Slow Regard of Silent Things, by Patrick Rothfuss
  3. Splatoon
  4. Firewatch (though in that shot you're watching a turtle instead of a fire)
  5. Netflix's original series Sense8, which is sweet
  6. Pathologic HD Remaster if you haven't played the remaster, give it a try. Comprehensible dialogue makes a HUGE difference!
  7. Uncharted: Drake's Fortune I haven't gotten U4 yet because I've got Dark Souls 3 to play. But I want it!
  8. Invisible, Inc. This game is awesome, inc.
  9. Deathtrap a sort of obscure tower defense game, but a good one. Should be cheap. Check it out.
  10. Planet Explorers this Kickstarted build/explore/survive is really coming together from the team's ambitious design. The game's huge, relatively stable, and not that far from release. Think less-blocky Minecraft meets Robinson's Requiem meets Monster Hunter Tri meets Hinterland, in space. I mean come on.

But can you guess my latest nefarities?

(nefarities is not a word)

This was a tricky one Steerpike!

  1. ?
  2. ?
  3. Fallout 4
  4. Just Cause 3? 4? I lose count.
  5. ?
  6. Valkyria Chronicles
  7. PAX East?
  8. Battleborn?
  9. ?
  10. ?

I had no idea the Pathologic HD Remaster was finished/playable. Will look into it.

And yeah, Planet Explorers always looked quite interesting to me. Glad to hear it's shaping up well!

No clue here either. If #3 is Fallout 4 that must be a character I didn't meet.

That #9 picture is taunting me.  I know I have played that game, maybe on genesis or turbographx 16?

Argh, not you too Lakerz, with the system demanding you be approved to post on the forums! YOU PREDATE ME for crying out loud. Curse you SimplePress.

As for #9, my friend, I understand why it taunts you. Don't go too far down the path you've chosen -- there's a simpler explanation!

Gregg: the Pathologic HD Remaster is NOT the Pathologic Remake that was Kickstarted -- it's just sort of a side benefit you can buy on Steam. It's original Pathologic, with the hi-res textures the artists had originally created. Also, all the words are translated by a human who actually speaks both English and Russian (rather than by Google Translate as the original was). This human even understands colloquialisms and stuff. It's a whole different game!

THAT WILL STILL KICK YOUR ASS AND MAKE YOU SAD.

AND UNHAPPY.

So my post would not show up until an admin gave it the okay?  Ha ha, wow, sorry that wordpress is being a biatch.

I continue to ruminate over pic #9.  I am trying meditation techniques to try to get the answer to just pop in my head.  I know I've seen those cute little pink alligators somewhere.

Back in time I once tried to play Pathologic.  I gave up relatively quick, I just did not find it fun.  The interlocking narrative sounded interesting though.  I read that playing the game through as that third character unlocked a lot of narrative secrets and gave 'aha' moments.  Problem was, the translation was so hideous for her that no one could understand.  A shame.

I apologize, Lakerz. The forum system we use is generally okay, but it's buggy in weird ways. Some users, like you, seem stuck in the Need-Moderation rut no matter how many times we approve you. I've looked at your user profile in both WP and the forum and it's all in order, so figuring out the source of the problem will take some effort. Please feel free to email me at steerpike@tap-repeatedly.com if you post something and want to be sure it gets approved right away!

Okay...

  1. Project IGI: I'm Going In   --   one of Steerpike's guilty pleasures
  2. Stephen King's From a Buick 8
  3. Fallout 4
  4. Just Cause 3   --   it's a great game I regret buying, because it's still a one-trick pony
  5. The Division   --   officially "Tom Clancy's The Division," but fuck that guy
  6. Valkyria Chronicles   --   or, as a friend of mine calls it, "that schoolgirl tank game"
  7. AJ's trip to PAX East!
  8. Battleborn   --   there should be an award for "most mediocre, forgettable game ever"
  9. Jungle King   --   from the arcades of our youth; I never got past the vine-swinging part
  10. Sun Dogs   --   a new indie involving suns, and, I think, dogs

Life is the misery we endure between disappointments.

#5 An eyeball with wings
#6 Looks like an asteroid belt of some kind
#7 One of the Lara Croft games?  Guardian of Light or Temple of Osiris.
#10 Looks like something out of an Onimusha game.

That's all I got.

Eyeball with wings looks like it comes from one of the Eye of the Beholder era games
