It's no substitute for seeing the paintings in person but is a nice option.

The extreme close ups remind me of the painter who saw his work under high magnification and immediately broke from realism to full abstraction. Heck if I can remember his name. Anyone know?

I'm a total sucker for scanning things in at ridiculous resolutions to check out microscopic textures so this is incredible to me. I also love macro photography.

I was admiring the details of an image at random, super close-up. When I zoomed out, I realized I'd been checking out Venus DeMilo's crotch. Nice paintwork though.  😉

I've always loved the way old paints crack so this is mana for me. Heck, asked a friend to model the cracking but she's busy with her real job teaching grad students. Selfish!
