I expect it will be a very long day.   For myself,  I hope it will be settled in one day however it turns out.  I sure don't want to go through another 2000 and have it drag on for weeks and end up in the courts.

For those of you who live in the United States,  do go out and vote for whomever you support.   This is the basis of our democracy and I haven't discovered any other govermental systems that I would prefer.

For those of you who support my candidate,  vote early and often.  wink

For those of you who live in the United States,  do go out and vote for whomever you support.

Actually I'm going to come down against this remark, well-meaning as it is. For those of you who live in the United States, do go out and vote if you support President Obama. Or, I guess, if you support, like, the Green Party or something. Otherwise, stay home.

I actually haven't been to vote yet, because the line was super long as I was driving in this morning. I'm going to try an awkward time, like 3pm. Here in Michigan we have a huge stack of Ballot Proposals as well, and I need to do some research and get my cheat sheet ready. President's easy. Senator's easy. Drain Commissioner? I need to look up who I support for Drain Commissioner. I don't know what a Drain Commissioner does, but I wouldn't want the wrong person having that kind of power, the power over... drains, I guess.

Like Kay said, there's the fear that this will come down to a too-close-to-call situation. We're all going to be up late watching CNN tonight. Maybe I'll watch MSNBC instead. I really hate Wolf Blitzer.

Rest of the world: I apologize in advance in case Romney wins. The good news is that though that would be terrible, it won't be as bad as W. Nothing will ever be as bad as W.

There was the smallest of lines when I went it just after 7 this morning to drop off my mail-in ballot. (yes, I do procrastinate, why do you ask?) Since I was dropping off my ballot, I was shown the huge, locked, red box for such ballots and fed mine to its maw (is it wrong that the box reminded me of the red biohazard waste boxes I see all over campus?) then went my merry way.

We voted at 9AM, for President Obama of course. All the poll workers seemed happy to see us as we were the only ones there at the moment. Others came in before we were done voting. I love that we use paper ballots. I've been following the 538 and Princeton site, so I feel pretty confident in the results. Hope I'm right.

I went to vote at 10:30.  Usually works.  In and out in 20 minutes.   This time -- 2 hours.   So people her are voting in record numbers.  I just hope they are my people.

Nate Silver and Sam Wang got it exactly right again. I should have put my complete faith in them and not worried so much. Great night.

Phew. I was afraid it was going to be a much longer night!

I have an old "Obama '08" bumper sticker in my office, which I keep there to annoy my mostly-conservative coworkers. After he won the first time I crossed out "2008" and wrote "2012." And I've been waiting four years to do this...

I'm glad I stayed up late enough to watch The Daily Show (airs at midnight on the channel I get it). It was worth it just for the hilarious Patrick Stewart intro.

Oh yeah, and congrats to sanity for holding out.

I can't imagine what's in store for 2016. Ugh.

Personally I'd vote Meho for president, but him (and I) being a non-American might hinder that. My second pick is Sarah Silverman.

Here in Oregon we get to vote by mail so I voted the third week of Oct from the comfort of my dining room table. I followed Nate Silver for the last two months and after kinda figuring out his methodology, realized that Obama was pretty much a slam dunk. It's the ill-informed pundits that have been holding this country hostage for some 20 years now that are as to blame as anyone. Stupid radio talk shows, stupid TV talk shows. Feeding people a diet of empty calories and fear, unease and disinformation.

Hopefully the Nate Silvers of the world will start to drive out the snake oil salesman and we can get back to some kind of sanity. Hell, I owe my career in film and photography to a CETA program instituted by Richard Nixon who believed in giving people responsibility instead of Walmart jobs. I was an independent until the 2008 election when I decided to vote in the primaries. Someone wrote recently that was the year the liberal independents all registered Democratic. I voted for Obama but I would love to see the return of the moderate Republican party to balance things out. Right now, the way things stand, the Dems will once again begin eating each other and the Republicans will once again fall into lock step behind the newest "Punisher of Bad People Who Don't Believe In What We Do".

I'm also against political dynasties. No more Bushes. No more Clintons. Or Kennedys.

I don't trust either party. up_to_something But I will throw my lot in with Obama again and hope he starts to kick some ass for a change.

I agree with your sentiment, Scout. Three Bush terms seems plenty.

I don't know if this whole Jeb v Hillary 2016 thing is a joke or a terrible fear ... or both. I wouldn't know Jeb Bush if I tripped over him, best it stays that way. And Hillary ... I can't see her running. I mean, why? Maybe she feels some sense of responsibility but I think she's done enough for politics. Better to relax and ponder eventual retirement than take the massive and inevitable beating that the first woman to be sworn in will no doubt endure. That's without even mentioning that I'm sure there's no one who wants to hear another Clinton joke again. Ever.
