Used to have Time Warner for TV with their Roadrunner for internet.  I loved them.  No problems.  It's been 2.5 years since Comcast took over Time Warner's Memphis service area, I've had problems ever since, and I have had it.  This is not Comcastic at all.  I've been reading about U-Verse, and waiting with bated breath, and yesterday local news reported that U-Verse had finally come to Memphis.  My recent TV problem lasting for a whole week, and today, several hours of no email pushed me to call ATT.  Ack!  U-verse is now available in the eastern part of Memphis, and in some of the suburbs, but not downtown, where I live, and we usually get the new goodies first.

While I wait, anyone here with U-Verse, and if so, what do you think?

Also, is anyone here lucky enough to be in a market that receives MHz Networks programming?  How I'd love to have that good stuff.

Not me. I wanted to switch to U-verse (to complete the AT&T trifecta) but it's not offered in my neighborhood. I hate Comcast. One of my office mates has it and loves it.

It's funny.  Lots of folks complain about ATT, and I did too years ago when they were a huge monopoly (I know, they're on their way to that again, sadly.)  Those  with iPhone ATT problems have a point.  It will be great when Verizon gets the iPhone.  But here, in TN, we had BellSouth for many years and they were great.  ATT took over a couple of years ago, and home service at least is still great.  When I first moved here and called for service, the customer service person, when finding out that I was a northerner gone south, told me which grocery stores were good for what, and suggested a few restaurants and other services.  Southern hospitality at its finest.  But I too, Toger, am looking to win that trifecta.  The sooner I am out from under the Comcast no-service-for-a-week-who-cares? the happier I will be.  We lose cable and internet service in just about every storm, even if the power doesn't go out, but I have never in 13 years lost phone service - not even when a tornado hit Memphis in 2003, so bad that we made Wikipedia (and living on the river, I'm on the front lines of all that is bad weather).

When ATT's monopoly was broken up I stayed with Pacific Bell (a baby Bell). When ATT came roaring back, Pac Bell was gobbled up as was my cell carrier Cingular (which if I'm not mistaken was originally another baby Bell). Aside from the hilariously bad reception here in SF (I have dead zone pockets all over my apartment. The best place - to date - with consistantly good reception in my place is the top of the stairwell leading to the front door [Image Can Not Be Found] ) I've not had a problem with ATT.

Currently, only my TV is Comcast. And I despise them. I have basic extended cable, no digital. I don't watch that many channels therefore I don't need digital. When the changeover from analog to digital happened, I was already prepared and living the "life of Reilly" (who the hell is Reilly?)  picking up over the air HD channels. However, Comcast, in its quest to make you toe their line, told its non-digital customers that in order to continue to receive Comcast's signal they would have to get a box that sits between the cable and your TV. If you didn't, they couldn't guarantee you'd continue to receive the channels you were already paying for! So, I got the stupid box - for every TV in the house, including the HD set - within the first 6 weeks, the cable went out twice. The first time it went out, it was area-wide. The CS rep told me that their servers had gone down and the programmers turned off the service to non-digital customers until the servers were fixed. (Some customers with this "service" were without internet & phone if they were bundled). She suggested we reconnect the cable directly to the TV until the servers came back up... the next day. (Can you imagine being with 'net & phone for a full 24 hours?!) I was one of the lucky ones, plus the service was only down about 8 hours. The second time it happened it appeared to be specific to me. That time, the rep had to reinitialize all three boxes. I got ugly because not only had the "service" dropped twice in less than 2 months, but it had totally ruined the reception for quite a few channels... most specifically the HD ones previously received over the air. Now all the channels were SD and occupied a smaller area with lots of black borders. I've since reconnected the cable directly to my HD TV... for about a week, I got all the cable channels. I've since lost the middle channels between 37 and 62.

Hulu and Fancast are my friends. I've also discovered that Xbox Live carries several of the shows that I watched on those lost channels for a couple hundred Live points. To borrow a phrase from Bender: Comcast can kiss my shiny, metal butt!

I want Uverse dammit!
