In our final episode of Side by Side Joel and I take a look at Metanet Software’s triple-distilled platformer, N++.
In recent years the sublime Rayman Origins and Legends have been platforming highlights for me, but as much as they give the mustachioed portly plumber a good run and jump for his money, N++ is the nimbler and more focused of the three — in fact, it’s laser focused, with homing missiles, heat seeking drones and everything. N++ is pure and powder dry, but what it lacks in personality, it more than makes up for with a beautiful, immaculate and rewarding movement model, all set to a killer pulsing soundtrack (check out Rival Consoles’ I Left The Party or the game’s incredible trailer to get an idea).
As a solo experience then, N++ is superlative, but how does it fare side by side with a friend? Watch our video below or directly on YouTube to find out. You can read more notes and comments from Joel over on Electron Dance.

Fantastic! I love Side by Side. I remember N+… and I gather there was once an N, but N++ is definitely too much for my limited dexterity. I got a kick out of Harbour Master’s remark that it reminded him of Lode Runner — another game I suck at — it’s clear what he meant (and why) even though, as he said, the two games aren’t that similar at a glance.
Great work!
