If you ever thought that the game buying public couldn’t possibly stoop any lower, you’ll be pleased to hear that Just Dance for the Wii has once again embedded itself at the top of the UK sales chart, toppling Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in the process. Not only did it surpass Bioshock 2, Bayonetta and Mass Effect 2 in the sales charts several months prior, it seems that this behemoth simply knows no bounds. No doubt Ubisoft already have a sequel in the works, and are gleefully rubbing their hands together at the thought of exploiting more helpless mothers, daughters and grandparents who simply don’t have a clue when it comes to video games.
Kudos to Ubisoft though for their shit advertising campaign, which only serves to peddle the Wii’s we’re-a-fun-family-lets-get-together-and-party image. Still, if spending £40 to dance like a twat in front of your friends is what you’re after, then look no further.
If you’re interested in seeing the UK’s embarrassing sales chart this week, hit the jump.

I’m waiting for the day I can buy a Wii game and get two free life size PJ and Duncan automatons to abuse. Watch me wreck the mic. Psyche.
Rubbish like this: coming soon to an Xbox 360 and PS3 near you!
One of my office-mates has this. He and his kids LOVE it. Me, I prefer DDR.
Oh, Lewis, Lewis, you do make me laugh. 🙂
Oh, Ubisoft. Well then. DRM those grannies!
@ Toger, one of my good ladies friends comes over and she has two kids, and she says Just Dance is “absolutely brilliant!”. I would hardly consider her a game expert, she is however the exact audience the game is targetting. IE. Those with no clue.
I prefer dance mat games to the guitar games simply because there seems to be some sort of cynical male power fantasy at the heart of Guitar Hero and Rock Band that just sort of turns my stomach. Dancing games just seem a lot more… honest and innocent, not least more active, more so than Wii Fit.
There’s an advert on in the UK for Doritos that features this loser who gets fired from every job he gets because a) he keeps acting like a rock star despite not being one and b) he’s a loser. Anyway, it shows him stacking shelves up a ladder in his latest job still wishing he had become a rock star. Out of the blue he ‘stage’ dives into a big Doritos stand confirming that he is still indeed a loser. Then later that day he buys Guitar Hero and goes back home to play it with his family and friends. His family, being the losers that brought him into this world, sit there flashing lights and egging him on while he ponces about in front of the TV with his plastic guitar. It’s like finger nails on the chalkboard of my soul. It does have some funny moments but that bit at the end is just weird.
The advert can be seen here. This is the full length version which incidentally, I haven’t seen before. It’s like some extreme manifestation of how I view Guitar Hero fans. I sound terrible but I’m right, they’re all like that. All of them, stage diving into Doritos stands.
I found that ad terribly disturbing. I mean, true guitar heroes should buy REAL guitars.
Oh dear. That ad was 4:18 of my life that I consider… well-spent, but only in the sense of using it as a cautionary tale.
How could he afford Guitar Hero (and wasn’t that Rock Band?) if he has no job? Plus, did it even occur to him to think about all the customers who’d be buying smashed Doritos because of his antics?
And honestly, who needs to be told that product goes to the edge of the shelf? I mean come on. Gregg, your wisdom is clear: Alan is not a rock god, he is a loser.
Shocking. Everyone knows it’s only worth spending 40 quid if you get to pretend to gun down civilians in high definition. A low ebb indeed.
@Steerpike: Haha, yeah it looked like Rock Band to me too. I’ve got to say when I was at uni I wanted to set the world on fire with creativity, that was my rock and roll, but Reality soon tempered that and before long I was as hopeless as everyone else. Simpering Alan seems to be clinging on for dear life.
EDIT: @Hanamigi – very true. Although the Guitar
FreakHero at Video Games Live had his moment of stardom on the stage playing with Tommy Tallarico. Try doing that by playing Stairway on your acoustic!@ Phlebas
That’s actually a very fair point. As much as we mock, this is all about choice.
Still, the fact that Just Dance has been absolutely destroying the competition in the UK charts for such a sustained period is amusing enough to warrant specific attention!
@Phlebas: sorry I missed your comment. Too true!
Lewis, it’s because of articles such as yours that people like me can keep up to date with video releases & most especially, separate the quality titles from shovelware. Fantastic job highlighting a “game” I hadn’t heard of! Based on your strong (ly negative) opinion, I bought Just Dance. 😀 Off to dance like a twat…..
Signed,
One Without a Clue 😉
