I found this at a blog my novelist brother contributes to, and thought it was amazing. Not, perhaps, as soul-quaking as the 3D Hubble Ultra Deep Field video, but still a nice way to remind us that we are very small indeed, and that even very small things can create beauty. Odd beauty, sometimes, but still.

Steerpike,
What a remarkable piece of work. It not only illustrates how insignificant we are, but shows how foolish mankind is with its trivial arguments designed to self-aggrandize rather that solve. You should forward this to our political leaders to remind them they need to consider the people more than their own selfish needs.
In a recent editorial, Thomas Friedman said it beautifully and factually. He essentially stated that our political process is designed to provide “sub-optimal solutions” to very big problems. I believe this to be so because we have an over-inflated view of our importance.
