Ever wanted to see your name up in lights? You too can become a Star!
Xtra Normal promises: “If you can type, you can make movies.” By registering for a free account, you’ll have three minutes with one or two actors who faithfully follow your script. Among the editing options are features such as setting, sound effects, gestures and music. Those of a more violent nature will be pleased to find a full compliment of battle sounds in addition to more traditional buzzers and belches.
Be forewarned: you are honor bound to share your efforts with the rest of us. And no, I am not a viral marketer. 🙂 What better way to pass time waiting for the New! Improved! FourFatChicks Forum! than by creating our very own trailers. Come on guys, let’s clean out the barn and put on a show!
Cool. I love the applause at the end. I want applause everywhere I go. Like when I shop for groceries, applause!!!
And here I was, ready to suggest that we all join Facebook and set up an FFC group to ease our withdrawal pains until the new, safe, eagerly awaited Forum makes its debut.
Are you ready for your close-up Yap?
In my best Fawkesian voice: TOO MUCH FUN

In a cosmic coincidence, I have to clarify that my queen actor is not meant to represent Yapette’s queen in any way, shape, or form.
Lolol. As they say, “Great minds think alike,” eh?
“Shake..(pause)..shake..(pause)….your booty.” Something I expect QE II has said many times in the past. Well, she isn’t necessarily QE, but I like to think she is (as am I). And no, I’m not British but I was a WASP (even C of E*).
*Church of England for you plebs.
Oh my, between the two of you you’ve totally made up for my boring ass crappy day at a symposium for defense maintenance technologies. Seriously, this alone made getting up this morning worth it. I love you guys.
As res:the forums, nearly everything necessary is done. I need to write a check, create some art, confer with MrLipid, set up some stuff, and then we’ll be ready to go. April. I promise, April.
Where then are the FFC auteurs? Whither what far flung place may be found the art of our own celluloid artisans of impeccable skill?
Or is everyone at the new site already?
Everyone but us is too *chicken* to post their magnum opus?
Yapette, do you think the xtranormal site has any future? Would you pay to use it?
Quite without permission, I took the text of Old Rooster’s Ceville preview and movie-tized it. I think it’s quite watchable.

Interesting question as it made me consider xtranormal’s long term viability beyond a free 30 minute one-off. Plus, your using a ready made script opened up new possibilities I hadn’t considered. That was great, btw.
I think *I* would pay to present my Superficially Relevant column in this way. Certainly would never stand in front of a mic & read it, nevermind the horror of using a webcam.
Even better, two Real People (like the old Point/Counterpoint on 60 min. decades ago) who regularly discussed stuff (i.e., batted an idea back & forth). Like a podcast but using xtranormal avatars. And short, not 30 minutes. First time someone did this would be unique and grab attention – after that, if other sites copy the format, probably not so.
Wanna try something? 🙂
I guess I have my doubts about this format. I’ve plugged in a few long format texts in this and just don’t think it works. It’s the voices, I think. After a few minutes I grow tired of the robotic droning. I did write a super short, nothing-to-do-with-gaming piece for a friend and think that short, ultra short and very, very, very short is the way to go with xtranormal.

Not having precise control over intonation and stress in the dialog gets frustrating quickly. When one starts spelling words differently (looooooong) just to change the way they’re delivered, the writing is on the wall.
The following is a short clip about a short lived Australian talk show host animated in real-time using motion capture on an actors face. I can gather from it’s short life span that either the dialog was crappy or the novelty quickly wore off.

But notice how O.R.’s lines just drip from that synth chip.
I was going to mention lack of intonation in my previous comment but on re-listening, O.R. sounded almost normal – not so monotoned. So you manufactured inflections by creative spelling? Brilliant…but what a pain!
I managed sound effects that overlapped &/or drowned out speech by inserting *pause* as best I could. After reloading 50x for that, I decided that Stephen Hawkings voices could stay just the way they were.
My English wife really liked the way I sounded and wishes it was real life.
O.R.
Face it: this is the twilight zone.
Yapette, you and your doppelganger Not_Yap are causing me problems with setting up an avatar. By logging out, then posting a comment by Y who is using y@tr as mail, I wonder if the settings will….reset.
Edit: For anyone reading this far down in “Soon” (like LillyField 🙂 ), this comment was posted before TR went live. Some of our avatars wouldn’t work with the new TR email & Gravatar so I was testing email forwarding. Thus this seemingly meaningless post which I never expected anyone to find.
I, too, think the incessant droning of the characters is a bit disconcerting and takes away from what could be a really sweet thing.
