Word of a trailer floating around the interwebs piqued interest last week, and Capcom yesterday officially acknowledged that a sequel to its mega-hit Dead Rising is in fact in development. Looks like this one takes place in Las Vegas Fortune City, and it’s in development now for 360, PC and PS3.
Most interesting to me is that it’s being developed largely by a western studio – Blue Castle Games. There was a distinct sense of mean-spiritedness in the original Dead Rising, mean-spiritedness aimed quite pointedly at the western consumerist culture. Setting the sequel in Las Vegas Fortune City implies we’ll see a return to that satirism, but I’m curious whether Blue Castle will dial down the anger in favor of a more lighthearted zombie romp.
Despite its flaws, Dead Rising was one of the early killer apps for the 360, and I look forward to this installment. Blue Castle might not have been my choice to develop, but Capcom seems to have faith in the studio, and is collaborating closely with its developers on what’s sure to be come a highly anticipated sequel. No news yet on release.
